So disappointed in this place! Was my first time eating here. Ordered two meals to go and BOTH of them had hairs in them!!! One a grey hair and another a black hair — gross!!! If this is a mom and pop shop, so sad. Really need to step up the hygiene. Will NOT be back here.

The best place for a casual lunch with amazing food. Husband and wife run the place. Don’t be fooled by its location. Locals know this place is the hit!

So I was in route to another restaurant for lunch, but as is typical of South Florida the roadway had been closed for a lengthy construction project again perfectly coordinated to wreak highway havoc as we go into tourist season. Since I’m pretty much of a local and found the detours and obstacles unmanageable I can only guess at the extent of the confusion when the tourists hit them. However, being hungry and clicking on my Unilocal mobile app quickly brought a delightful resolution of the problem with reviewed recommendations for Greek Gyros Express. It’s located on the west side of Federal Highway in Pompano at the south end of what is clearly a deteriorating strip mall; sort of «hole in the wall» looking operation from the outside. However, on the inside, it’s really rather pleasant with a large seating capacity, plenty of decent Plexiglas covered tables with Greek maps or décor underneath, clean looking Greek blue painted walls, Greek flags & etc. I took a seat and a waiter with a Greek accent to his voice came to my table with a menu. I asked him about the Moussaka with Greek salad for a mere $ 10.50. As he assured me that their Moussaka was the very best, I ordered it along with a red wine and a Methos beer. When the salad came, it wasn’t just any little after thought of a side salad but indeed a full plate complete with feta cheese, plenty of Greek olives, one of the most tasty Greek dressings ever and all of the greens being fresh, crispy and with a perfect crunch to the bite. My wine was also, by the glass, full bodied, just the way I like it and of a decent pour. Now, as for the Moussaka, my waiter was right, it was the very best. I’ve had a lot of Moussaka, most at much higher prices, but the Moussaka here had the best flavor about it of any Moussaka I’ve ever experienced; really good as well as a meal offering having a tremendous bang for the buck. I couldn’t have been more delighted. As a sideline, being the perpetually inquisitive type, I had a lot of questions. When I start with such questions they are so often met with an ambivalence or unwillingness to explicitly answer, but not here. Indeed, not only the waiter but the cook himself joined in on answering. Then, not just because I asked, but with a sincere flattery that I was interested enough in their food and preparations to ask. I don’t think I’ve ever experience such a warm, friendly, sincere response to such questions at any restaurant. Overall, I’m giving Greek Gyros Express a Four Stars Plus rating and after I’ve tried some of the other offerings might well consider bumping it up to Five Stars. It’s no high class Greek place like Thasos and doesn’t try to be, but represents great quality, superb value and a friendlier atmosphere that to me, for what it is, constitutes its equal to any of the higher priced places if not in fact better. My special thanks the Unilocal app for leading me to a really good restaurant I would have never otherwise found, to my fellow Unilocalers for their on spot reviews, and special note of thanks to the Florida Department of Highways for rendering my other highway travel plans an obstructed impossibility.

Stopped by for a quick lunch since there are so many good reviews. I wasn’t disappointed the food was excellent, the place was authentic. They even had Greek TV on. The owner was very pleasant, he took our orders and cooked(we stopped by at an off time so only one other person came in while we were there). Hummus was delicious! .and I have a pretty high standard for hummus. It came with warm pita which was thick and fluffy. A+ The falafel was also pretty good. I had it sans tzaziki(no idea how to spell that) and tomatoes, but with some of their excellent hummus. A Overall it was a great experience.

Thank you Unilocal, found this place in a tiny strip mall thanks to you. Stopped by for a quick bite, had the Hummus and Falafal Gyro, the Hummus was wonderful and so were the accompanying Pita, the Pita was thick and fluffy and perfectly warm. The Falafal was outstanding! The owner cooked and served our food, he was very pleasant and inviting. I wish they had Shish-kabobs on the menu, but I will definitely stop by again to try some of this homemade tasty food!

Maybe I ordered the wrong menu items but had higher hopes based on Unilocal reviews. The chicken gyro was cooked dry. The hummus was sadly tasteless. I don’t think I’ll be back.

Worst falafel EVER! I say this because the menu says«tahini sauce»(which for those with dairy allergies like because tahini has NO dairy). Instead, they put some foul smelling tatziki sauce on it, which is made from cow. The menu says tahini, so no reason to think they’d stick cow sauce on it! Got it to go, so I didn’t notice until I got home. The woman owner was very nice though — she apologized saying they stopped using tahini long time ago, but never changed it on the menu. Sorry, but that kind of mistake = Bad Review.

This place makes delicious and authentic Greek food. I am half Greek, my dad being born in Athens, and I have been eating Greek all my life. The gyros are very good; the tzatziki is perfect. Moussaka is awesome, too. A good number of appetizers to order, as well. I love them all! The owners, Tony and Olga, are sweet people – very kind and attentive. Tony cooks all the food while Olga waits hand and foot on you. Trust me, you will NOT be neglected here. Whether you love Greek food and are an expert, or you’ve never had any and want to give it a try, Greek Gyro Express will not disappoint. Opa!

This is the real deal. Discovered their gyros the night we moved to Pompano(exhausted after a day of moving), and have gone back regularly ever since with family, friends, out of towners, etc. Fresh, good food in a pleasant, clean, light environment. Run by a REAL Greek family who will become YOUR family as well! My sister-in-law(straight out of Big Fat Greek wedding) confirms this.

My usual Greek restaurant in Pompano is closed for the next two weeks since the owner is on vacation, and I NEEDED my tzatziki fix. So, I looked around and found this place near my house, and thought I’d give it a try. Now, I really love my usual place, and I knew I’d be unfairly comparing this place to it. Even so, it was just… eh. I would give it two stars, but I know that isn’t exactly fair, so three it is. So I go inside and place my tzatziki and pita order to go, along with some rice pudding. The woman is very nice and from Greece, so I was hopeful that would mean the food was good too. On the drive back to the office, I notice the paper bag has an oily spot on it coming from the tzatziki container, so I check the bag to make sure oil doesn’t get all over my car. Once back at the office, I dig in, but am underwhelmed. The yogurt has a bit of a sour taste to it that I don’t really care for, and the pita doesn’t have much flavor. I eat about half and put the rest aside for my dad to finish later. I then try the rice pudding, which tastes okay, but is a little on the watery side. I’m sure this place has excellent gyros(since that’s what it’s named for), but I don’t eat those, so I don’t think I’ll be back here.
