Poipu Shores

I’m being a bit generous here, but, I’m on vacation and that’s how I’m feeling.
Great location, spectacular views, and the condo. 101A, is very well appointed and right next to the beautiful salt water pool.
Knocks are like others have written, no air conditioning and this south facing beach, the units get warm. The bbq is not close to units and makes it really inconvenient. Also, there is NO phone service in the condos. We have both Sprint and Verizon… nada!
The island is spectacular… and this is as good a location as you’ll find.

Unit 107A.
Beautiful ocean view with loud crashing waves-​1 Star.
Close to beach-​1 Star.
Place was 90 clean. Service was very good.-1 Star.
Tight parking, no A/​C, thin windows do not block out sound from passerbyers who talk in front of your window. Old appliances, some didn’t work. Old ceiling fans and fixtures. Old stained carpet. Old furniture. Everything from the 70’s. Screen doors fall off. Shower doors calcium stained. Shower knobs are cracking.
Sheets and beds are old and cheap. Toilets and sink are okay.
BBQ in dark, enclosed area and full of flying insects.
Have I been in worse… Yes.
Will I have nightmares… No.

With any condo-​rental-​from-​owner, the individual units will vary widely. So, you’re on your own to research your unit to determine if it is appropriate for you. Ours was 405A, which had been remodeled and was very nice.
As for the complex itself, you cannot argue with the location. All units have spectacular ocean front views; so close you’re practically in the ocean! Lots of turtles, whales, and crashing surf to give you that «far from home» experience. The views are really spectacular.
As another reviewer indicated, ocean front does not equal «beach» front. It’s about a 5 minute walk to Brenneke’s beach and 10 minutes to Poipu beach. The walk is along the water so it’s very pleasant and does not seem far away. We easily hauled chairs, towels, snorkeling gear to and from.
The reasons why I only give this complex 3 stars are: 1) no A/​C in our unit. And I don’t THINK there is A/​C in any of the units. This coastline faces due south and the sun beats down all afternoon and heats the place up quite a bit. Our master bedroom never really felt comfortable (even with multiple fans running). We are cool temperature sleepers, so for us it was hard to sleep, which can really affect moods and overall enjoyment. Additionally, in order to cool the place down we had the front door open, which helped but also allowed bugs in.
2) the place could stand to install a few combination locks. Currently, the front door, pool gate, and property gate all require key entrance. More than a few times in the first couple of days we had to send someone back up to the room to get a key so we could get in (and out) of the pool. The path to the beaches was always open until one day, randomly, the gate was locked and our kids, who came back early from the beach, had no way to get in to the property and had to take a detour through the neighborhoods to figure out how to get to the condo. I know, seems trivial but it is a clue regarding general upkeep of the complex.
3) no lights at the pool, which closes as sunset. That said, we went down and swam in the dark a few times and had fun.
4) this is not a «resort», with manicured gardens and amenities. The place is basically a very tight parking lot and 3 buildings. That’s it. That said, as I strolled through the various local resorts with gardens and more «space», it was easy to notice that many of their units were far from the water and did not have ocean views. This place is what it is … A small’ish collection of condos right on the water.
I know some of these things seem like little nits, but given what we paid (which was far more than what we paid for more upscale accommodations on Maui, for example) I’m holding this place to a high standard.
So, all of that said, if your unit is appointed to your needs, then the views and location will make it difficult to not like this place. A few relatively easy upgrades would really help, though.

Absolutely loved this place. Not up to date, but in good shape and the view and setting is absolutely spectacular. Could not believe the sound of the ocean and the turtles swimming around right there! Very comfortable and clean. Great vacation retreats was easy to work with. I only wished they used better products. The soaps and detergents were all horribly scented and full if chemicals. I’m used to seeing more Eco-​friendly/​healthy products at lodging of this caliber.

This complex consists of two options — single-​level condos, and two-​story townhomes (far fewer townhomes than condos). We stayed in one of the townhomes which had been renovated — the unit itself was very nice. Obviously all units have amazing ocean views (complex is right on the water). There is a nice ocean-​front pool (heated), along with BBQ grills in the common area. Overall this is a nice small complex that is well maintained.
A few caveats to be aware of:
1) While the complex is certainly ocean front, it is NOT beachfront.
2) No AC (at least in our unit, I suspect the same holds true for the entire complex). It is not uncommon to not have AC because of the tradewinds.
Main Poipu beach is about a half mile from the condo. Nice multi-​purpose beach (does get crowded, especially on weekends though).

My home away from home. My parents have owned here for over 15 years and I have so many fond memories of family trips here. All the condos are clean, spacious, contain washer and dryers, and the kitchen is fully equipped with pots, pans, and a dishwasher. The resort offers a sandy beach pool and two to three different jacuzzis as well as multiple BBQ grills. There also are classes guests can take that range from lei making to lessons in scuba diving and a great concierge desk that will book any excursion you could possibly want to do. The resort is close to the beach and has a walk way over to the nearby Hyatt Hotel, and is only about 5 minutes away from the Poipu Shopping village. Definitely give this place a try the next time your vacation plans bring you to the Poipu area and you will not be disappointed.
