Friendly atmosphere and conscientious service. Unfortunately the sashimi was not fresh tasting or smelling and the texture was limp and soggy. The menu has too many fried items and «crunchy» sushi. Too many sauces. Sadly not authentic Japanese IMO.

I came here with some friends on a Friday evening, a bit before 7, and I’m glad we arrived when we did. Within 20 minutes, there were customers at every table. Obviously, people know to come here for good quality sushi and/​or Japanese food, well prepared, and served by very nice people.
We started with a delicious «house» saki very reasonably priced. They have an assortment of other hot and cold saki as well. My party ordered a variety of entrees including sushi, a sashimi deluxe platter, and a vegetarian tempura dish. These all came out quickly and were well prepared. My vegetarian friend loved his tofu tempura, served on a bed of vegetables, calling it VERY good (with emphasis on the VERY). Similarly the deluxe sashimi platter came with a nice variety, and the sauce accompanying the salmon was very rich and complex, with elements of smoky and spicy. My sushi was well prepared, accompanied by good wasabi. I particularly liked their take on their Pleasant Valley Roll.
Parking is available in lots, and the small lot behind the building is interesting, as it is shared with a private residence in back. It’s not a lot of space, but it’s enough for the restaurant. On weekends, I’d suggest arriving early, because the place WILL fill.

Very good sashimi! Especially for the bbq white tuna! The servant is also very polite.

Everything I have ordered there is delicious. Even better is the hospitality. They are the nicest people, and I really enjoy eating here. (Probably too often!) they always have awesome sushi to try on special, and will make whatever you like. Always happy leaving there.

The place was an unexpectedly great! I never thought there would be a top shelf sushi house in Pleasant Valley! If you like sushi and you’re in eastern Dutchess it’s you won’t be disappointed!

i met my mom here on christmas day, and neither of us had ever been here, so i was hoping it would be a good experience, expecially on christmas, and i wasnt disappointed. Plenty of off-​street parking, close to the entrance (even a ramp), it was nicely decorated, had great christmas music going (nat king cole, not the modern stuff), and the lighting was cozy. i had the shrimp tempura appetizer which was very good and came with a very tasty sauce. for dinner, i had the bento box which had several different, tasty items in it. the ONLY negative was that my chicken was tough; hard to bite into and chew. it was probably just a fluke, and the ONLY reason i’m giving the review a 4 star. my mom had the hibachi chicken/​shrimp dinner and her chicken was very tender. SHe really liked her dinner as well, and i had a taste of hers, and it was delicious. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. we will definetely be going back here! OH, and while we were walking out, all the sushi chefs said good night and happy holidays! it was very nice.

Loved the food! I would hope that when winter hits they have some heaters as it was so cold. Nothing to look at but excellent sushi.

The food is perfectly fine, but the portions of our last takeout order were so small that 6 rolls (36 pieces) fit into a single plastic tray. There’s no way that $ 40 worth of basic sushi rolls should fit into such a small space. That’s some House of Leaves nonsense right there.
After eating in the restaurant, I can say that the portions in the restaurant are significantly larger than those we got last time we ordered. We were really hoping for a meal at that cost, but all we got was a snack. Eat AT the restaurant if you can, and avoid the takeout if you want a fair deal. Everyone at the restaurant is friendly anyhow, so it’s worth seeing ‘em!

I was surprised to find a nice sushi spot in upstate NY but here it is! I came here for the first time with my dad who lives around here and just came for the second time to grab a snack before heading home. I’m no sushi expert but I have eaten a lot of sushi in my day and the fish here tastes fresh and of good quality. The staff are very friendly and the service is good. I would definitely recommend!

Valentines Day. I asked my better half where she wanted to go for Valentine’s Day, and she said Tokyo Tavern. Great choice, we love this place, feels like coming home. The food is five star, outstanding Sushi, Tempura, Salads, soups, the welcome and service is even better than five star, we are treated like family. Fine dining has returned to Pleasant Valley.

I can not say enough, that these are the nicest people in Pleasant Valley. The food is wonderful, but more so when I go there it’s like I’ve been invited into their home. Even with take out orders they always offer me a seat and a cup of tea while I wait. Excellent food and I feel like family when I’m there.

Amazingly fresh fish, great staff, outstanding specials (monk fish liver!!!). They go to the Fulton fish market every morning so you know it’s legit. Best sushi around!!!

I love this place. The staff is very friendly. The sushi is excellent and fresh. The sushi rolls are rolled tight and don’t fall apart when you pick them up with the chop sticks.

While passing through Pleasant Valley my girlfriend and I were pleasantly surprised to discover this gem when we pulled off the highway for dinner. The waitress and staff were friendly and accommodating, the décor was tasteful, and most importantly the food was delicious. Not only were the prices very reasonable, but the portions were generous as well. They did not resort to the usual tactics of loading the rolls up with too much rice or adding a disproportionate amount of the cheaper ingredients. Overall we were extremely pleased with the experience of eating here and would highly recommend this restaurant.

After finally trying this very local restaurant, we’ve become regular online ordering customers. Tonight, I called to ask a question and was told about the specials: monkfish liver and sautéed squid. I will never order before checking for specials again ! (I missed an uni special last week)
The monkfish liver was a very delicate, beautifully presented substantial portion with a lightly flavored dipping sauce. I ordered 2 portions of sautéed squid for my entrée– one would’ve been adequate as it was also a generous portion of thinly sliced squid, perfectly sautéed and flavored.
Everything we’ve ever ordered has been delicious and fresh. Our orders are always quickly ready without mistakes. We asked for brown rice with our meals and were asked if we would like brown rice to be used for our sushi rolls. What a lovely personal touch!
Tokyo Tavern is a unique and welcome addition to our neighborhood dining options. So glad we finally tried it. I look forward to dining in the restaurant; I’m sure it will warrant an update to this review.
