We recently experienced sushi village because of our friends. They talked about this place for awhile. I wont lie I was very skeptical based on outward appearance and outdated rundown inside. However much to my surprise I enjoyed some of the best sushi I have had in awhile. The sushi was delicious and fresh. I enjoyed the soup and tempura as well. They had some interesting choices that I would have never tried if it wasn’t for being here. The service was pretty prompt and friendly. No issues… best value for good sushi. I would have given them five stars if it was cleaner & more up to date.

Great service and right price… minus the heat not being on when everyone was wearing jackets

DECENT sushi. Some of the worst service my fiancé and I have ever had. The waitresses were so rude that we left angry. We waited an extremely long time for our food and we even heard surrounding tables have to ask multiple times for drinks, checks or to have their dirty table wiped down.

This place serves the best All You Can Eat sushi I’ve ever tasted. But that’s if it ever gets served to you. Other reviews can attest to this as well, but this place is woefully understaffed. It is a pity, then, that they serve actually good sushi. No ill will toward the waiter staff either, since I’ve seen them sneak behind the sushi counter to help out. I suppose on a personal note, it helps knowing the staff since it seems your orders sneak up toward the front of the line, but otherwise, be prepared for long waits. Be prepared for those wait times. Come relatively unhungry(weird for AYCE, I know), and with good company. Enjoy good sushi, and stick around, since you’ll eventually get fantastic sushi. If you’re in a rush, or superbly hungry, avoid.

Pro– I come here for the Menu Sushi all you can eat, as they are rare, upstate NY. I enjoy the abundance in options of quality I have in Florida, north New Jersey and the city. The rating is based strictly on the fresh fish(I don’t come for the rice). I find the sashimi here to be excellent and tempura menu and the extended menu items great. Also not all places have perfectly prepared Mackerel, they certainly consistently do. They keep the cuts proper grade, very important with Mackerel. The temperature is always proper and the fish never once has smelled even minorly fishy. That«not once» is important, in the respect of the manner a chef conducts himself over his customers. The sushi chefs here do a great job period; including with presentation The sushi rolls here are good, nothing unique, or too creative, nothing bad, just probably what typical people eat… I eat raw fish often, and I will give proper respect to establishments that go well and beyond in their skills. Con The place is real small, and should be with great service. Oddly the servers here serve me other people’s food almost every time, and I always tell them that would be great if I was ordering with the regular restaurant menu… except I pay for unlimited sushi. Its interesting because they almost always get our drinks wrong though… never my food, I just get other peoples food and mine. The waiters are always very nice, but must learn the language they are serving too better, they really must mess up with alot of other customers as I have read the other reviews… Me on the other hand, I catch the mistakes before they send off. I have been here at least 15 times over the years, and will certainly return. Just, now I seem to go for the fantastic Thai place next door when I am with other new guest, for these reasons.

This is a review for All You Can Eat: I suggested to my parents, my brother and my sister-in-law to give this place a try after a friend of mine told me in an off hand comment about All You Can Eat. So we all went, and I made a reservation prior to our coming, as I was warned the place is a bit small. We were pleased with the speed of service, though bewildered by the questions both servers kept asking us. It had an air of one hand not knowing what the other was doing. However, the servers were all very polite, and cordial. They were attentive to our needs for the All You Can Eat, and waters were refilled frequently. The sushi was arranged artfully on the plate, and did not take too long to come out. My sister in law’s Fish Katsu took a bit(She didn’t get it until our first plate of sushi was done, though she did get her salad rather quickly). She did say that the fish was excellent, and from what I could smell, it certainly seemed it! All in all it was a very enjoyable evening, and I was very pleased. The family wants to go back again!

Went for the AYCE. Bad idea… 1. Fish was not fresh(and they cover up that fact with excessive amount of spice) 2. Miso soup smelled like soupy water 3. Tempura is extremely greasy and batter was not right Sure, it’s cheap, but this place convinced me cheap sushi is always a bad idea

Went Sunday 4÷7÷13… Heard good things about the Sushi,(True)…heard service wasn’t so good. WELL… service was FAR worse than you can imagine twice had to bring our order to them… waitress was HORRIBLE!!! Will NEVER go again!!! Not to mention the place looks horrible from the outside and looks like a cheap takeout Chinese place on the inside, not the sit down place it is

I haven’t Unilocal’ed in awhile but had to here. Usually I write nice reviews but this was bad. I went with family and the entire family minimally ate during the day so we could fully enjoy AYCE sushi. My parents visited twice and brother visited once. My sister and I were the new guests. We got to the restaurant around 5:15 and did not leave until 7:30. Not because we’re crazy AYCE’ers but because our food took forever. We ended up 2 plates of about 4 rolls each with some sashimi and sushi. The problem was that it took about 30 – 45 minutes each! 2 of 3 waiters seemed to not know anything about serving. One of the waitresses did not understand our requests. Asked for more hot tea, got new cups of hot water. She took our plates but did not replace them. We asked for plates, but we did not get any. My brother ended up getting plates himself. We should have tipped him instead. Another table left before they got their entrees and left money on the table. You could see they were upset! Another table left still hungry. My dad asked if they were hungry and all agreed. The«knowledgable» waiter said he was training new waiters and kitchen staff. Not sure if that explains why the sushi took so long. The owner was the sushi chef but she did not realize the mess elsewhere. That being said, sushi is good but I would avoid this place given the lack of attention to service.

This review is for the all you can eat. great selection of sushi and hot foods. Sushi was great quality and delicious. However, the place is tiny and understaffed. Service is friendly but may take 15 min per dish to get food… slow service. Overall, highly recommended during non peak times.

good quality sushi at a decent price. the AYCE includes other items besides sushi, so the family and i love to go when we feel like stuffing ourselves there really isn’t any other good AYCE sushi around the area unless you go way further south, so this review could well be 4.5 instead of 4 stars just due to that fact. they make you finish your meal and leave at most two pieces left, so don’t go crazy and keep that in mind when placing your order.

I love Sushi and when I travel across the Northeast, I always try to find a Sushi bar. Well, sometimes I get a great meal. But, often — not! Sushi Village Pok in my hometown of Poughkeepsie, does a GREATJOB! I love the chicken teriyaki there and of course the Sushi. I keep saying ‘bring it on.’ Mei and Jimmy make a great buffet. Thanks

I would give their sushi and sashim 4 stars; the rice is well steamed/seasoned, and the fish fresh. I would rate it 5 stars if they used real crab meat, rather than imitation. I’m a big fan of all-you-can-eat-buffets. Sushi Village had an all-you-can-eat-sushi menu, but not a buffet. I tried it, and learned that it isn’t customer friendly: 1. On top of the $ 20 a person, you are charged an extra fee if you don’t finish eating what you ordered 2. I cannot take home any leftover, to avoid the extra fee. Usually buffets don’t allow you either. I understand this point. But customers shouldn’t be penalized for leftovers! If the manager is trying to avoid customers from over-ordering, their should be a limit to how much a person can order at one time. 3. After making the first order, I had to wait 20 – 25 minutes for my sushi. I even had to remind the waitress. That’s a long time to wait for sushi. Luckily I ordered their seaweed salad. That took about 10 minutes to get on my table, which I think is still a long time for a simple salad. Sushi/sashimi = 4 stars all-you-can-eat-service = 1 star

Remarkably good sushi and tempura. We were a family of four and got the all-you-can-eat lunch, which is NOT a buffet. Everything is made to order fresh. The sushi/sashimi was shockingly good, for Poughkeepsie at least, but in truth we’d have been happy with it in LA or NY, where we often have Japanese food. In particular get the mackerel and the tuna. The shrimp tempura was also excellent as was the dragon roll. Soft-shell crab roll too. Nice miso soup and quite good hot green tea(for which they charge $ 1). We are all big eaters and they kept the food coming graciously. No doubt much to their regret, given how much sashimi my sons and I packed away, we’ll be back.

Since they brought out their new buffet offer(all you can eat for $ 20), the service has really gone downhill. I went with my boyfriend and we both ordered the buffet. They forgot our drinks, brought us the wrong food, took forever to bring the correct food, wouldn’t serve us dessert until we’d eaten the food we hadn’t ordered, and didn’t tell us when we placed our order that they didn’t have the dessert we wanted in the first place. I’m never going back.

Bah Sushi Village. Thanks to the existence of Tokyo Express, I went here rather infrequently, and never at any suggestion of my own. I only ended up here when a large group of people who already had their minds set on coming here invited me along. Every visit, though, was tasteless. And more expensive than I wanted it to be. End of story.

Another person who bought some flavor to Poughkeepsie. I came here for dinner and we sat at the sushi bar and like every other Japanese place, it was calm and filled with warm people. We ordered the Mushroom Avocado, Sweet potato and YamaGobo sushi. We sat there and watched the Perfect Japanese man make our sushi’s.And why is he called perfect? He almost looked like a doll with the pale yellow skin and straight hair with a Japanese outfit and a cap, If i stayed there longer i would have bottled him up and made him a showcase. :) The place has a great selection of sushi’s, noodles and other Entrée’s.Our sushi plate had a coconut tree drawn on it with soy sauce, it was pretty cute and like any other sushi it was good and i did behave like masochist in between;tortured myself by taking a huge bite of the Wasabi. BURN! You must try doing that, whenever you have sushi, take a huge bite of Wasabi and go crazy and then say BURN! :)

I hit this place up today. The former Fortune Cooky spot… I was a little apprehensive to say the least. You know how I scale the success of a sushi place. Is this fair? Probably not considering that even if you make a halfhearted spicy tuna roll, I’m cutting you off. Sushi Village did not disappoint me at all. The rolls were fresh and very tasty. I chose the Mushroom Soup(Shiitake with wakame scallion) and that was VERY good. Having a soup where I can actually taste the dashi goes a long way baby. The spicy tuna had a real bite to it. Mildly hotter than most spicy rolls I’ve had, period. I definately recommend going to this spot on a regular basis. It is good to have more sushi in this area. Good job, Sushi Village.

This place sucks. My girlfriend warned me about it, but being an adventurous spirit I figured I’d try it out. Well, my adventurous spirit caught a black eye on this endeavor. It’s not good. Stay away. A better sushi restaurant is around the corner, Tokyo express. I ordered the shrimp tempura, the ebi, and the eel. I ended up throwing it away. Perhaps it was a bad day. Perhaps the cook was taking tequila shots the night before. Perhaps the food passed through some weird environmental event that crapped up the meal as the waiter brought it out. I don’t know. I do know, I’ll never go back.
