Outstanding, well thought out, unique dishes! Everything made in house, right in front of you. The best lunch we’ve had in Mendocino County in quite some time, and we didn’t even try the pizzas. We sat at the kitchen bar top, asked the Chefs to give us one of every appetizer on the menu(only 4), and just truly enjoyed an outstanding culinary experience. The best part, the dessert(house made quince paste, pound cake and ice cream). We almost passed it up, but glad we didn’t For quite some time, we drove right passed this place. We finally made the time to stop and have the food. We will never forget our experience here. What a gem!

Stone and Embers located in the Madrones was the best restaurant on our trip to Mendocino. We stopped by here just before noon on a Saturday. As the first ones to arrive at the restaurant we got our choice of seats and decided to sit at the bar facing the chef and pizza oven. It was awesome to see him at work throughout our whole meal. We fstarted with the bread a butter($ 3) which was nicely toasted in the oven after we ordered it. The house cultured butter was ridiculously good. Next up was the Fire Roasted Shishito Peppers($ 8) which were to die for. The mild Shishitos were nice and charred and so amazingly delicious. Next up we ordered the Chorizo pie($ 19) which tasted fresh and perfect. Someone else ordered the Mushroom«chicarrones» which we asked about and they gave us some to try! We finished with the toasted ice cream which was infused with the toasted bread. I’ve never had anything like it and it was awesome. Overall Stone and Embers is amazing and you will be missing out if you don’t stop here for lunch. They are currently open from noon — 4pm. Pro tip: Order some of the plates as well as a pizza. Everything is made in the wood fire oven.

You are lucky if you get into this place as they are very popular and have very few seats. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try! A Wood fired pizza oven in the hands of an expert pizza maker are a delicious combination, and their wine list features some of the best Mendocino has to offer. Within a short wall of 6 tasting rooms and within strolling distance of two more, you could make a day of it without ever moving the car!

Simply put, absolutely phenomenal pizza that blew me and all my friends away. Exquisitely thin crust that had the finest balance of airiness and structure to contain all the fresh toppings. We had a variety of pies including a margherita and white anchovy, unique flavor profiles yet all derricious in their own ways. While the apps and desserts were interesting, none stood out in particular except the sourdough bread with house cultured butter. Service was fine and the outdoor patio comfortably cool in the shade despite the raging heat.

My wife and I stopped here for lunch on our way out to the coast, and we are so glad that we did! This is a tiny little restaurant with only five tables indoors(and a few more tables outside). Everything is cooked in their wood fired oven. We had potato beignets for an appetizer and they melted in our mouths. Basically fried balls of whipped mash potatoes. So good. We quickly forgot about them, however, when our pizza arrived. Chorizo, red pepper, and arugula. We each took one bite and decided it was the best pizza we had ever had. Seriously. The pie disappeared very very quickly. The wait staff was also very attentive and took great care of us. Don’t pass up a chance to stop in this place!

I really hate being a 5-star Unilocal slut but I really can’t help myself. Everything here was perfect. 1) Mushroom Chicharrones — crispy and light with deep mushroom flavor covered in shaved cheese. 2) heirloom carrots — stunningly beautiful presentation, well executed combo of textures and flavors — came with yogurt, curry, pumpkin seeds and bulgar wheat. 3) Chorizo pizza — very good pizza, chewy yet airy crust. Slightly undersalted but that’s ok. 4) basil ice cream — served in an ice cold stone bowl, the most amazingly smooth texture that rivals any artisanal SF ice cream spot.

The pizza here is simply amazing! We stopped here on our way to Mendocino during Memorial Day weekend and in between wine tasting in Philo we decided that we better eat something. Pizza is my indulgence and comfort food and when I saw that this cute little place is right next to 2 of the tasting rooms we were gonna check out, I was so happy! They have limited hours on when they are open and we were lucky we were there on a Sunday so they were open for a late lunch. My margherita pizza was hot, fresh, gooey, savory. Basically all that you want in a pizza. It was the perfect meal on a wine filled belly:)

My family stayed at the Madrones over a long weekend and had several meals at Stone & Embers since it was just steps from our room. We especially enjoyed the Naples-style wood-fired pizzas. One of the memorable pizzas was a chorizo pizza topped with a sunny-side up egg. Delicious. The chocolate dessert was also delicious. It reminds me a fancy and more delicious version of a mud pie. The menu seems to change on a regular basis. The menu is not large but everything we had was wonderful and prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

Fantastic pizza on the road to Mendocino! Somewhere along the windy forested road between Santa Rosa and the Mendocino coast is a cute cluster of wine bars and, unexpectedly, a hip new pizza place. Stone and Embers brings San Francisco culinary heritage(I was told) to the wine country. The menu changes constantly, so I can’t remember exactly what I had– one was a potato bacon deal, and one was a meatier one. The toppings didn’t matter– both were delicious, thin crust, crispy and chewy. We had lunch outside in the cute patio and finished our pizza off with a glass of wine. It’s hard to have a better afternoon than that!

We just loved this restaurant. It has a small menu but what’s on it is all prepared with fresh and local ingredients. The staff is so warm and welcoming. Our desserts were just — YUM!
