Honestly, what made this place a 4 star rating was the amazing service and the welcoming factor of the entire staff. The food is good — I ordered the pita pizza and it was very tasty. My husband ordered the gyro and he enjoyed it a lot. I love that when you walk in there its like everyone knows everyone else and the waitress is on point! I’ll definitely be back again! One thing to note, it’s less of a Greek place and more of a Greek/Italian place.

Try the veal, Athenian chicken, or any one of their pastas. Spiro makes the green beans better than anyone I know, a must have if you ask me. Everything is fresh and made to order, no frozen foods here. Best Greek restaurant south of Richmond off of I95

There were some reviews I read some reviews that made seemed to not like this place. Obviously, they have little or no knowledge of what good food is; I work for a food industry. It doesn’t make me an expert, but I know good food when I go to one. Although this place is known for its greek food, they also serve italian. Not horribly surprising by that, if anything, that’s pretty common. However, I seem to find myself liking this place a lot more than I should. The restaurant was relatively small, but it felt like it was home. The ambience wasn’t too loud, which I enjoyed. I can actually hear a conversation from the other end of the table. Having said that, I ordered the chicken pita and grilled and chilled salad with their house made tzatziki and greek dressing. They were delicious. They were not too watery or too thick. Perfect mixture with a nice taste to it. For the more part, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Rating: Food: 4. Price: 3. It was a little pricey, but I am willing to pay a little more for good food and good ambience. Ambeince: 5 Service: 4 Overall: 4 Will be coming back here again when I’m in town.

For all those people out there that think the food is bad and«bland» at Alexanders, you obviously have terrible taste(and most of you that left bad reviews do judging from your other restaurant choices). This place is awesome!!! The staff is friendly and personable, and the food is great every time!

Still one of my very favorite places in the area, and my faves remain the same-the chicken pita and grilled and chilled salad(their house made tzatziki and greek dressing are delicious and I am picky!), although everything I’ve had has been good. I’m truly puzzled by the one star reviews, because I’ve never had anything that was remotely tasteless here, the service is always wonderful, and they definitely do serve wine, contrary to what a recent reviewer commented. Also, in response to another review, this restaurant IS family owned and operated, by Spiro, and his wife, Lynn. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Meh, I was almost about to give this restaurant a one star, but I feel bad for the people that work here. As soon as I walked in it smelled like sitting water. The food came fairly fast and tasting it explained why. The food was very bland and tasted like it was out of a can. The fact that this restaurant opened at 5 and doesn’t have any beer or wine on the menu is very puzzling. Oh and I got a spoon to eat my spaghetti with. I’ve been doing it wrong my whole life.

I have been to Alexander’s several times over the years and can never understand why people claim it a gem or a favorite. The food is always bland, overcooked to the point of dry or hard, and institutional. It is not Greek food at all – it is non-descript. As far as the Greek salad that is raved about by Charles H in his 1÷13÷2013 review, it must have been different from my order that was a mélange of flavorless, institutional salad fixings consisting of tasteless, out-of-bag tomatoes, cucumbers, and pre-sliced carrots over iceberg lettuce. It was served topped with some average, commercial-quality feta on it, so I guess that makes it Greek? However, in his defense, the reviewer references Leonardo da Vinci«creating» the Sistine Chapel when the artist had no hand in the chapel’s creation or ornamentation, so there may be a some misconceptions about the qualities of a Greek salad as well. The tzaziki is the worst that I have ever tasted. It is virtually tasteless. I thought it was sour cream.

Greek my @$$. I honestly can not believe the positive review this place has received. Are you people on crack? There are NOGYROS. What the hell? There is a chicken sandwich on a pita but no lamb. NOLAMB!!! The place is more Italian than greek or Mediterranean. I was not impressed no were my coworkers. We were all left wanting. wanting greek food. We only saw one worked there, a black lady serving as waitress. She was very nice but every greek or meditaranian restaurant that I have ever been to was a family owned and operated place.

Alexander’s is the best-kept secret in the Tri-Cities. This little gem is tucked away in a little space on Bank St. that belies what rests within: Heaven. The food here is prepared to appeal to those with a healthy appetite. It is delicious and plentiful, and the service is very efficient. There is little to no chance you will leave hungry. The Salad Supreme is the absolute pinnacle of freshness and choice ingredients prepared masterfully. If Leonardo DaVinci would have created a salad instead of the Sistine Chapel, this would be that salad. It features excellent chicken and carefully selected vegetables including tomatoes, onions, and peppers, and the homeade ranch dressing is spectacular. The veal parm here seems to have been made been made by the hands of angels. Every dish on the menu is phenominal. All of Petersburg’s most connected and prominent citizens dine here frequently. When people want to impress a VIP from out of town, they come here. In fact, I was having lunch here one day during the filming of the Lincoln movie and who should drop in for lunch but Steven Spielberg himself(pic attached as proof for all you doubting Thomases and Tammys!!!). The restaurant is not fancy… in fact, it seems to hide out, disguising itself as a hole in the wall without fanfare. In reality, this is Greek food at its finest, prepared by real Greeks who are in the restaurant business for life. You couldn’t ask for a more pleasant and professional staff. Most of the customers are locals and regulars. These guys don’t advertise at all; they don’t have to. A loyal clientele of Petersburg’s power players enjoy lunch here. On any given day you will probably see one judge, one member of city council, a reporter, and a dozen people who are bored with the food at the Country Club. There are still a few old school restauranteurs around, and these guys adhere to the classical model. They do not take credit cards, but they will take checks. If they know you, they will actually give you credit and send a bill. Despite the comments in other reviews, Alexander’s is a good place for a date or business meeting because the noise level is actually quite low. If there is any piped in music, I certainly haven’t noticed it, and it is not a «bar atmosphere» with loud drunks. If you have only one day in Petersburg, Alexander’s is a must-not-miss destination for either lunch or dinner. This place is absolutely a five star establishment, it runs like a swiss watch, and the food is second to none. Don’t take my word for it — or anybody’s for that matter — try it for yourself and find out the secret of Olde Town.

Really good food but ridiculously loud! My veal parm was among the best I’ve ever had… ditto on the baklava. Also, very attentive and accurate survice. Unfortunately, this small place was hosting two large parties and it was as loud as a rowdy bar in there.

Alexander’s is one fine restaurant you walk in and you are greeted by one of the wait staff. We were seated and looked the menus over and ordered our drinks. They only have wine and beer, so my wife ask for unsweet tea and I myself a cold Killian’s Red Beer. And after examining the menus we ordered my wife had the rotisserie chicken and twiced baked potato with a salad. And I had the souvlaki sandwich and fries. When the food arrived it was hot and look scrumptious. My souvlaki sandwich had lettuce, diced tomatoes and feta cheese. They went a little heavy on the cheese but other wise it very good and the fries were good also. Now to my wife’s dish the chicken was just undescribably good, because I tried it AHH. And the potato was yummy also. We then decided on desserts she got the banana pudding and I the baklava and they were delicious. So I will be making a return trip and if it as good it will move to 5 stars.

This is a small place like most of the restaurants in the old area of Petersburg. There were about a dozen tables and a full bar with seats. The décor and table settings reminded me of an old diner. Entering was a little awkward. There really isn’t an entry way. You just walk in to the middle of the restaurant. There wasn’t a sign so we weren’t sure if we should seat ourselves or wait. Luckily the waitress greeted us quickly. She was very friendly and attentive. We both ordered Greek dishes. I have to say that the food was just OK. The salad that came with the meal was a nice size and full of great ingredients but the lettuce had lots of brown spots on it. The meal was large enough for leftovers and was well cooked. They only take cash so be prepared. There isn’t an ATM anywhere close.

Good Italian/Greek. Owned by two brothers who make their own sauce and grow their own vegetables and herbs. The secret was definitely in the sauce.

The other reviews here are pretty much accurate, so I really don’t have much that I would add. They offer good food and service, and take pride in doing it. The souvlaki, grilled and chilled, and kota are my favorites, but everything on the menu is good. It is small inside, and they only take cash or check, so you’ll need to remember to have something other than plastic to pay with.

Wow! A hidden gem, for sure. It’s off the«main downtown» area(notice the use of quotations) — meaning around the corner from Andrades and Brickhouse Run LLC. However, had a great experience. I got the Athenian Chicken, and out came half of a huge chicken. Not only that, it came with a dipping broth and endless super tasty bread. They were super attentive and friendly. I normally inhale food but couldn’t even finish the chicken, and reading my mind, the waitress packed everything to go, and even brought out extra bread and a to-go cup for the dipping broth. These extra touches are the sign of a good restaurant. The meal was about 22 $ person, but given that I got two meals out of it, and the place had great service — great value.

Alexander’s never fails to satisfy. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious. Their meat is perfectly seasoned, not even needing the slightest bit of salt, the lasagna is fantastic, and the Grill & Chill is the perfect warm weather food. The wait staff is friendly and quick, the atmosphere is clean and casual, but nice. The fact that when you walk in you’re immediately between tables can be a bit confusing, as there is no hostess stand or sign saying whether you should wait to be seated or not, but everything else about this restaurant is perfect.
