I went to Hokkaido on a whim because one of my friends and I were craving sushi. Hokkaido separates people who would like Hibachi or those who would like to eat sushi into two rooms. The hibachi menu has many different types of meats and fish. There is a $ 5 split fee if you choose to share with another person. We sat in the sushi section. Our water was taken quickly and the sushi took about 20 minutes to prepare. The crab rangoon was creamy and the flavor of the crab was not overbearing. It also comes with shredded carrots as a garnish as well as a sweet orange sauce for dipping. I ordered the Mango roll which had salmon, avocado, and mango. It had a sweet mango drizzle on top that pulled all of the ingredients together. I also had one ikura nigiri piece. It was the first time I have tried caviar, but it was a good first time. Both sushi pieces were fresh and were refreshing. The price is a little steep, but you get 7 – 8 pieces depending on the type of roll you get. The ambience of Hokkaido is classy, yet you can make it casual. My favorite part upon entering were the fish that swam around in the river in the floor. It was a nice touch to the atmosphere. My friend and I were dressed in jeans whereas others were wearing a skirts or dress pants. It is a flexible and cozy atmosphere for the sushi connoisseur.

Quick review~ The sushi is hit or miss. Some days will be good, other days it just doesn’t taste right. As for non sushi, the only dish I ever had was their peppered steak and egg drop soup. Peppered steak was OK, nothing spectacular whatsoever. Egg drop soup was 3 $ for a tiny bowl and again, was just OK. Server went MIA for about 5 – 7 minutes and I had no rice for about that same amount of time.(Ill give her the benefit of the doubt here). Will return for the hibachi and update this review.

I went for the first time to Hokkaido today. There were 3 other tables filled in the Sushi area that I was eating with one other person with me. We each ordered the all you can eat«emperor’s» menu. $ 25;95 a person. It was worth paying the extra 5 dollars for the extended menu as it added many selections to the menu. The appetisers were very nice, starting was a tasty miso soup. We enjoyed the crispy gyoza, tempura shrimp which was for me surprisingly nice with crunchy panko bread crumbs without being too oily. The selection of Nigiri sushi was very nice, and the quality of the sashimi and the fish in general was very fresh. The assortment of maki(rolls) was abundant and enjoyable. On the down side, The rise that was used to make the nigiri sushi and miki seemed to be overcooked, mushi, and did not have the seasoning that sushi rice normally has. This was a disappointment Overall, we were happy for the meal, and will come back again to sample other things from their extensive menu. I hope they fix their sushi rice. Service was good, and quick.

Rolls are tasty but inconsistent. Something did not taste right about the rice tonight… the rice did not taste like sushi rice. Presentation is superb. Eel had bones in it… WATCHOUT! My kids love the Japanese sodas called Ramune. They have Melon and Strawberry flavors. The hibachi grill is decent here, but we rarely sit at the hibachi. We ordered the sizzling rice soup tonight. Usually it is good, but the broth did not taste like sizzling rice broth. Something is different here and the quality seems to be in decline.

I love their sushi, however it seems every time my wife and I come for the emperor dinner($ 26 all u can eat sushi) the service gets slower and slower. As a matter of fact, I am beginning to think that they do this on purpose so you start to feel full while waiting, therefore eating less and less. In 45 minutes worth of time, we had 1 helping of sushi and were still waiting on more. I don’t know if we will be coming back, which is sad because we love their food. Also the hostess is rude. Always, every time we go. I guess we will start going to sushigawa. So sad :’(

Great food, service and atmosphere. Best Asian food in town with a great menu for sushi, Thai or Chinese(including authentic regional dishes). There’s even a hibachi grill area too. A must to visit when you’re in Peoria– if you like lobster you’ll love their twin lobster garlic and scallion dinner.

One of the most bizarre adventures I have ever faced in my entire existence. I wanted to experience Sushi for lunch with a good friend of mine, based on Unilocal reviews decided to visit this sorry excuse for Sushi Place. We decided to go with the Endless Sushi so I ordered different varieties being that it is endless Sushi! Well guess what?! I did not like some parts I ordered so I decided to try something else. In a heavy English accent, the waiter tells me whatever you don’t finish will be charged a regular price! I was confused at first and had to double check with the manager who she was very hard to talk with! She even made false claims that my friends has been coming here all the time! But, he corrected her as it was their first time as well!!! I was forced to finish my plate to avoid being overcharged $ 30 for mediocre Sushi! I was crying to finish my plate! I truly suffered to get to the finish line! As a person who has traveled to over 6 countries in three continents, this is certainly a first for me!!! I highly suggest avoiding it! You have been warned!

We came here for the first time tonight and we were super impressed! The food was excellent. I got the combination pad thai and my husband ordered the sushi dinner. He was raving about how great the quality was. He really liked the dynamite roll. He said he thinks they call it a dynamite roll because it’s so good that you over indulge and feel like you might explode. My pad thai had great flavor and the meat was super tender. We did feel that the service got a little slow after the restaurant started to get busier. Delicious food and we will be back!

Specials are great — especially lunch. You get a lot of food! Hibachi food was cooked perfectly! Sashimi was fresh! I would recommend the salmon tartar app from the dinner menu! Waitress was excellent! Sushi chef was friendly and answered all of our questions! My only complaint was the hostess. She never smiles and when you ask her a question, she is short and unpleasant.

Came to Hokkaido and had the endless sushi bar dinner! So worth it! Lilly was our server and the sushi kept coming. So good for the price. Would come back again TOMORROW if I could!

Hokkaido. Always a pleasure. I love this place. Everything I try is as delicious as the last. However, the Tuna ans Salmon Tartares… Absolutely briliant. I can’t speak highly enough about this place.

This is our favorite place to eat sushi in Peoria. The menu is expansive, so many rooms to try. They have endless sushi for lunch and and larger selection for dinner. We have always had excellent food. The service has always been great, the servers are wonderful. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Hokkaido gets a well earned four stars from my wife and I. We are big on atmosphere, and Hokkaido has some uniquely fun attributes. A shallow koi pond lining the walkway, a drum that you can pound in the entry way and three separate dining areas(hibachi, bar and sushi areas), which my wife and I agreed help keep each area quiet. I got the«bento box» which started with miso soup and a garden salad. I wasn’t too fond of the salad as it consisted of only lettuce and dressing. But the main course was excellent… California rolls, yummy tempora(a new thing for me!) and spring rolls. My wife got a nice orange chicken dish and warm peanut roll sushi. A slight downside is service was a little slow but we were enjoying our conversation so we hardly noticed! :)

hokkaido is definitely the best sushi bang for your buck in peoria. their AYCE deal is amazing: $ 13.99 for lunch, $ 20.99 for dinner & $ 24.99 for an expanded«emperor’s dinner.» prices and hours differ a bit on sundays. the menu is limited based on the price range you select, but options include appetizers, nigiri, sashimi(emperor’s only), and a really decent selection of rolls. if you go hungry and make a good faith effort, you can put away a lot of fish. like most AYCE sushi places, you order as you eat, and you get charged for anything you leave behind. not a big deal — just order smart. i do have one complaint: at times hokkaido falls into the AYCE rice inflation game, with an extra layer of rice in their rolls and super skinny pieces of nigiri on huge balls of rice. see pics for evidence. this isn’t always the case; i’ve gone a lot and it seemed like the worst was on friday/saturday nights. other times, especially at lunch, it’s not noticeable. i love hokkaido and will keep going back. amazing ambiance, damn good fish for central Illinois, and fantastic AYCE pricing. but, FIGHTTHERICEINFLATION! it’s worse than the man.

Great sushi place with hibachi and thai food items on the menu as well. Can personally recommend the endless sushi lunch special as a high quality item on the menu that includes appetizers, sashimi, and maki rolls. The upscale décor and ambience extends from the bar area to the special booths and also includes a large private party option.

Fabulous place to go for all you can eat sushi and easily the best place to get sushi in Peoria(and better than some of my favorite places in Chicago)! I’ve been here twice now and both times, have been so impressed with the quality of their sushi-grade fish, the service, and the beautiful interior. Lunch price is great steal at $ 11.95 and dinner is around $ 20 for all you can eat sushi, which gives you access to appetizers, rolls, and nigiri. If you get the deluxe Emperor’s Buffet version which costs $ 25 for dinner, this includes additional specialty rolls, sashimi, and extra appetizers like shrimp tempura! I’m always skeptical of Asian restaurants that offer every single Asian cuisine on their menu, but a few friends ordered General Tsao’s chicken and chicken katsu, which looked amazing and their meals came in very generous portions. They also have a hibachi grill as well, which would be fun to go to in a group or if you have kids. Highly recommend this place!

4.75 I have NOT lost my mind… but…Comparable to some of the best sushi in this world, in my opinion of course;-) So after living on the coast and sampling sushi from many major cities throughout the country(Chicago, LA, NYC, Seattle, SanFran, SD, Miami+), PuertoRico, Canada, Europe, Asia and Africa. I cannot believe this place exists in the midwest, in PEORIA, ILLINOIS of all places. Crazy to say, but I’m sticking to it. Have eaten here regularly, both lunch and dinner. This place offers: –Fresh sushi, good portions, reasonable prices –All you can eat sushi that doesn’t taste like all you can eat sushi.(lunch around 14 bucks and dinner $ 21 – 26 depending on if you go with the larger selection). –Thai(small selection) but GOOD. –Plenty of cooked Asian dishes for non-sushi eaters –Hibachi if you’re into that. Multiple times I have tried to ask where their sushi comes from but either it is a big secret or the server doesn’t quite understand what I am asking. Either way, keep your secret but just keep serving this melt in your mouth delicious sushi and I’ll be happy. The décor is cute, many different seating rooms which include a Hibachi area, bar area, regular dining area with booths and tables and a large meeting/dining area and private hibachi room(great place to throw a party). No sushibar though. Cute goldfish swimming in the small floor aquarium, even a gong drum you can hit on your way out if you liked your meal. Once you’re seated the service is always top notch, however, since this place is so big sometimes when you enter no one notices you for awhile so you kinda gotta inch your way into the dining area until someone sees you. Or just hit the drum when you walk in;-) I have tried all of the 7(ha!) sushi restaurants in Peoria and this is #1, choice #2 would be Osaka and 3rd is Kirin on Knoxville. How anyone can vote Sushigawa as their number one is beyond me, yuk. Domo Arigato

When me and my sister’s plans to eat sushi at her favorite local spot fell through because the restaurant wasn’t open, we thought we’d check out what the sushi offerings at Hokkaido were like. Although she had eaten at this spot for the hibachi style food before, she had never sat down at the restaurant for sushi for lunch, so this was our first experiment. The restaurant itself is very pretty and big. They have a separate dining room for the grills, and a separate room for regular dining. Along the floor, they have a cool channel of water housing tiny baby coi fish swimming. This place seemed like it could easily accommodate a nice date night or family outing depending on what you are looking for. As for the food, our lunch was delicious! I liked that they offered a selection of bento box lunches or unlimited sushi menus, which gave us a lot of variety to choose from. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a huge sushi person myself, but I enjoyed the variety and quality of lunch, and am starting to like sushi more and more with each try. I ate the bento with with vegetable tempura, california roll, rice, and gyoza. This was a lot of food for only 9.99, and I’d gladly go back in the future when visiting my sister again.
