Delicious food! The Crab ragoon is my favorite appetizer. They have all you can eat fresh hand rolls on the weekends. The rolls are crazy wicked good! Everything I have tried has been amazing! Great sevice in a casual atmosphere.

This place is simply not worth the hype. The rolls were over fried and under rolled. The waitress didn’t seem too friendly. The wait from order time to when the sushi came was long. On a side note, the Crab Rangoon was delightful and the portion was generous. The sauce that came with it was a perfect pair! Definitely take advantage of the happy hour or the all-you-can-eat.

Coming from a purist taste palette for sushi, Happy Fish has excellent simple rolls. Often times when I go out to grab Japanese finger-foods, I like to keep things light and uncomplicated. At my most recent visit, I tried the Salmon maki, Spicy Salmon maki, and Unagi with Cucumber and Avocado maki. Priced at $ 4.95+tax/each(about 8 – 10 pieces), the rolls were a pretty good deal. The raw salmon tasted excellent, not overly fishy and had an excellent texture. Compliments to the chef, the Spicy Salmon maki was one of the best I’ve had in a while. The bitey Sriracha and creamy Mayo embraced the buttery salmon beautifully. I also love the fact that the fish was not chopped in itty bitty pieces like they do at most other places and was not packed with inches of rice. My only gripe was with the Unagi roll. It had a slightly funky taste, even being a cooked item. I wasn’t confident with my order to begin with since I usually stay away from overly saucy items. The menu itself has some heavy content, lots of complex specialty rolls to choose from, but have no fear, navigate the menu with confidence because the top pages contain a legend of graphic icons to symbolize whether the roll was vegetarian, gluten-free, cooked, etc. and came with a compartmentalized description with a full list of ingredients.

If you like Americanized sushi, you will like Happy Fish. With it’s colorfully decorated sushi and multi-decade laden music, Happy Fish is a good spot for poor college students and for thefirst time sushi consumer. Happy Fish is rather small, but it manages to seat a lot of people. They have about 6 booths along the wall and tables in the middle of the room with the bar on the other wall. I have sat in both the middle of the room and in a booth. The two person tables are close together; when I went on a date I could hear the people next to me and their conversation. The special is an okay deal. You receive miso soup, salad, a sushi roll, and a choice of a side like crab rangoon. Unfortunately for me, I only ate the sushi because the soup was salty, the salad had too much dressing, and the crab rangoon was too creamy. Another time I went, the sushi was much better. However, the service was slow and I waited an hour for 3 rolls. The waitress seemed pre-occupied when taking our order too. Overall, Happy Fish is the place to get your sushi fix. If you are looking for higher quality, go explore outside of the Bradley bubble.

Unilocal really needs a half star; I rounded up because we enjoyed our takeout sushi at prices comparable to grocery store sushi(which is a compliment). Have eaten here previously, will eat here again. Food is fresh and tasty. Maybe not the best in town but certainly serviceable.

Came here while I had a long break during the day at Bradley. I was craving sushi for some weird reason, and Happy Fish left me satisfied. The only qualm I had was that the rolls were a bit loose(I got the volcano and fajita rolls) but they were still delicious. The whole place has a big hipster vibe, but the hipsters know how to make decent sushi, which is all that matters. At about 40 cents shy of $ 20 before the discount, it’s not super cheap but not super expensive for sushi. With the Bradley discount it was around $ 16. Not my go-to sushi place but it’s not bad and I’ll come again.

The sushi is just ok. It tends to fall apart and be ok. The service is good and ya fast and the inside is pretty clean. We orders one set of a roll and we got an Electra roll on accident but it was for free so that was nice. The drinks were always filled up and the staff was attentive.

I have given Happy Fish three strikes, and they’re out. After going to this restaurant for years between 2011 and now, I can say in the past year their quality of food and service has vastly declined. After having the same particular server each of the last of my «three strike» visits, they are so far«out» that I will never return. On the first horrendous encounter the server repeated back to us our order properly. Okay, great, we’re ready to receive our delicious sushi. She brought out a bunch of sushi from left field, not at all what we ordered, and was taken aback when we told her it was wrong. On the second strike visit with Happy Fish the rolls were incredibly loose and tasted horrible. Today, 6÷25÷2015, was the icing on the cake. We went into Happy Hour(recently changed to 5pm-6pm) and placed our order, which was repeated back to us properly by the server. She re-stated unsweetened Ice Tea, we received sweetened. She re-stated Spring Rolls, we received Crab Rangoon. The rolls were loose. The nigiri never came. The miso soup came last. At 5pm,(the start of Happy Hour), they only had one server, and the second server got in about ten minutes late, causing the primary server to be slammed and offer horrible service. If you want to up your service game, Happy Fish, make sure that your wait staff arrives on time and that when servers repeat orders back to the customer they mean what they say. I have learned the hard way that if you are looking for a bargain on sushi, just pick a different genre of food. Pay the extra money and go to Sushi Gawa or Hokkaido. You truly get what you pay for and the service and quality of food are simply not there at Happy Fish anymore. I’m all for second and even third chances, but Happy Fish has struck out with me after three negative experiences in succession.

Took a long time to take our order. Very loud rap music playing… almost too loud to talk. Ordered the three combination bento box with the spicy yellowtail and spicy salmon. Sushi was tasty. Miso soup really good. Crab Rangoon was tasty as well. Overall good food. Would come back.

I really want Happy Fish to be good because of its proximity to campus, but it just isn’t. I have had issues with their dine in service, sitting for nearly an hour without food, while those around us who complained got free appetizers. On this same occasion, my girlfriend and I ordered the same roll. She received the standard 6 pieces and I only got 5… We were sitting at the same table, ordered the same thing, and shorting an order of sushi is unacceptable. On another occasion, I decided to order out. Every roll I ordered was sloppy and not tightly rolled. I opened the to go box and they were literally falling apart. I think the worst part was when I found the cups for soy sauce but they FORGOT to put the actual soy sauce in the to go bag. It was careless and unacceptable in my eyes in all aspects.

I have been to Happy Fish many times but hadn’t been there in a while. I have always said the food was good but service was lacking, but this time, about 2 – 3 weeks ago I was disappointed by both and to top it, somehow the service got even worse! I was a server for many years when I was younger, along with doing hair for a few years so I know all about the service industry and I don’t think I’ve ever been treated so rudely by staff. My boyfriend and I walked in and asked for a booth, there were 3 open. It was a Sunday, early, about 5 p.m. and this is their all you can eat sushi Sunday time. Now, I understand they may get busy being a day they run their special, but, we asked for a booth and… They told us we couldn’t sit in one because they needed to save those for larger parties… I was annoyed by this answer, as the tables almost all seat for 4, just like the booths, so did it matter if we took a table for 4 vs a booth for 4? There are, though 4 tables that seat only 2 and they are poorly placed RIGHT next to each other with only a few inches of space between them. You can literally elbow the person at the other table… Well, guess where that sat us? At one of the four 2 tops, with 2 people already sitting at one right next to us. It was awkward as we could hear each others conversations and literally ended up touching elbows at one point… with total strangers… right next to you. As if this wasn’t annoying enough, the table was so small it barely fit our 3 sushi rolls and 2 drinks on it and while we were there, there were never less than 2 booths available at any given time, so we could have easily sat in a booth without disrupting sushi Sunday. The serving staff did the same thing to a table of 4, that asked for a booth, though they had 4 people so I’m not sure why they didn’t meet booth criteria… At least with 4 they got a table to themselves and didn’t have to basically sit with another table. Also, the food… Used to be pretty good… Now the menu has several of the better items taken off, going from 3 pages, front and back, to only 2, as well as changing how some of the rolls are made. The shaggy dog used to be really good and now I couldn’t even eat it. And they charge. On sushi Sunday at least, 50¢ for each piece you don’t eat. F***ing ridiculous when I literally told them I just don’t like the roll because the recipe has clearly changed. I will not be going back and know others who used to like it that have had similar experiences lately… You will never stay open if you treat your customers this way. They are what keep you in business, so the next time someone asks for a booth, let them sit in one rather than save it for a potential customer who may or may not come.

I am OBSESSED with the Aloha Roll. My other favorites are the Ninja Roll and Rainbow Roll. If you haven’t tried the Aloha Roll though, you are missing out! It literally tastes like summer in your mouth. The fresh mango, avocado and sesame that they put on top is simply an amazing combination and compliments the entire roll. Every time I go there I get the Aloha Roll and share it with friends and now it has become a favorite to us all! There is definitely a difference in the quality of fish and even the staff. They seem to have improved majorly since the new owners took over in October. Glad I gave this place another try with the new people in charge! It was well worth the second chance!

My sister swears by Happy Fish, and it’s one of her favorite spots to go in Peoria. So, while in town visiting her, I finally had a chance to try it for myself. I only ate takeout, so I’d like to come again in the future and dine in to potentially raise my star rating, but the food I ordered was tasty. I like their combination orders since it gives you a nice variety of food at a good price. The california rolls were fresh and tasty, and I liked the ginger salad and crab rangoons that came it. My sister wasn’t kidding that the rangoon sauce they make for the rangoons is pretty terrific. I suppose it would be frowned upon to just drink it straight from the cup though!

Love their rainbow roll. They have an all you can eat deal Sunday afternoons, lol but I can’t eat more than one roll. Close to the university so parking is limited. Staff friendly. They do have a bar where you can watch them work

I came here with my sister during happy hour(4−5pm). We were the only customers! Halfway through our meal another customer came in. The happy hour deals are with the purchase of a drink. The server, Stella(?) was very friendly and helpful. She recommended their most popular rolls. We decided on the Bradley roll, Sumo roll and Volcano roll. All of them were great! I was so impressed with how fresh the veggies in the Sumo roll were. It was a tasty, light option! I looked over their menu before we went and I noticed many of the rolls were cooked, which I am not always a big fan of. But I was very impressed at how good they were! Prices are what you would expect at a sushi joint. Atmosphere was pretty cool. I grabbed a carry out menu as I will definitely be ordering again during the lunch hour at work!

Wow… I can’t believe someone would compare this to Sushi Gawa. Sushi is by far our favorite food, and while I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, we frequent the other places in the area and also some in more major cities. First of all, my first impression was the place just felt a little dumpy. Our table was so slanted my bowl of miso soup literally would slide away from me if I didn’t hold onto it. The booth we sat in had what felt like broken seats and my glass, spoon, and bowl weren’t very clean. Not a huge deal, but not awesome when you’re trusting this place to properly handle raw fish. We ordered a total of 3 rolls: one traditional(Tuna and avacado), and two specialty rolls(Bradley roll and volcano). We also got crab rangoon, ginger salad, and the free miso soup. Crab rangoon was good with the sauce they provided(the rangoon was bland by itself… if you like crab rangoon, I’d highly suggest China Express on Knoxville). The ginger salad and miso soup were pretty good too. The sushi really did me in though. The tuna and avacado was the only«roll» that was actually a roll that could be picked up and eaten. It was pretty good. Nice and simple. The tuna tasted fresh. However, the Bradley roll was literally a pile of rice laid out in a line, with some very small pieces of the tempura’ed stuff on top of it. Definitely not a roll… wasn’t even an attempt at a roll. The rice wasn’t sushi… not sticky or anything. I had to eat it with a fork like Chinese food. The taste was ok, but not great. The volcano roll was literally inedible. Like the Bradley roll, this was just a pile of stuff… and I couldn’t find anything to pick up as a piece. I can’t even put a finger on what exactly was wrong with the flavor of it, it was just bad. They said they tried cooking it differently(with a torch) and they thought that probably caused it. But it was a strange mix of very smokey salmon, funky tuna, butane-y torch, and imitation crab. I honestly would say it was the worst«sushi» I’ve eaten. The server and manager were very nice. We mentioned that the volcano roll didn’t taste good and they voluntarily took it off our bill and offered to remake it for us. I definitely appreciated them taking it off the bill, but wasn’t up for more of it. Bottom line, this place is the same price as great local sushi places, and it’s NOWHERE near the quality. When you’re eating raw fish, why would you trust someone other than an experienced sushi chef? I would honestly recommend Kroger, HyVee, or Fresh Market over anything I had here.

For college kids on a budget this is just fine. $ 4.95 traditional rolls and they also have specialty rolls like the«Ninja Roll» which are more Americanized. The green tea is just a normal tea bag in the cup. Miso Soup is free with your order! Staff was very friendly.

I love Happy Fish — their Ninja and Bistro rolls are my favorite. I will agree with the other reviewers here and say that service is pretty slow most of the time. It’s definitely ‘Americanized’ sushi — a lot of it is fried, or has a fried component — but, c’mon, that’s what makes it tasty!

It saddens me that this place keeps sliding in a downward direction … The new interior is pretty cool looking but waiting 45 minutes for one roll that was poorly crafted is disappointing. I’ll give it another try because I love sushi & maybe it will be better

I completely agree with whoever said this is the McDonalds of Sushi. Very low quality and there is definitely better sushi in town. It’s only redeeming quality was the best crab Rangoon in town, but they changed the recipe for that and raised there prices on their low quality food. If you want decent sushi not the place to go. Definite disappoint that just keeps getting worse.
