Food is just ok. Bathroom was the most disgusting thing ever. I puked just looking and smelling it.

Got sick within 15 minutes of eating there and so did my son. I have not gotten sick eating for anywhere in 20 years. Never again. Don’t think I need to say more. Burrito was a greasy ball of oil or large? Not sure why they cook that way. Just saw another review with almost the same comments. Save your stomach from a night of hell and just keep driving.

I had the rolled tacos. Nothing special the sharp cheddar cheese they use ruins it. The hot sauce was ok too watery and the don’t keep them filled like they should.

This place has turned into a rip off joint, they charge the same amount for chicken as the they do for carne asada. They now charge 5.00 for one fluta cut in half, are you kidding me. 5.00 for some chicken wrapped in a flour tortilla. I have been going to this place for years but not any more, just cannot justify spending that amount of money for food thats not as good as it used to be.

We were out for a day drive through the Valley and stumbled on this taco shop. We are huge fans of California’s taco shops and always like to try new ones. Jilberto’s is clean, food was fresh, nice salsa bar and generous portions. I had the carne tacos and my son had the veggie burrito. Both were delicious! Prices are a little bit on the high side($ 23 for two people with two sodas, self-serve, paper and plastic) but it wouldn’t stop us from coming back again and again. Also, there is a nice shaded, outdoor patio with pretty views of the area.

I had the fish tacos and they were pretty good. The veggies on them were very fresh! My only complaint was that the service was so slow. Next time I go I think I will go for the fish tacos.

One of the few places to eat in Pauma Valley other than the casinos. Service is friendly. It is the middle of no where so locals, people driving to the campgrounds, or driving the backroads are pretty much the only people stopping by. It is located next a liquor store and there is plenty of parking. The trash can out front was almost full attracting a lot of wasp. Inside it reminded me of its sister location down the highway. The set up is similar. The food is pretty good. Nacho supreme was a decent size. Plenty of carne asado mixed in through the plate. I hate it when most of carne asado is gone with half the chips left. The individual tacos are pretty big and meaty. The salsas tasted pretty good. Overall, an alternative to the casino eatery locations.

I am quite opinionated about Mexican food and really appreciate the authentic places and am often VERY disappointed in the Mexican food in SoCal since it is too often more CalMex than true Mexican. For me it should be either Rick Bayless or «hole in the wall» scary taqueria. The flavor and texture of the Carne Asada and the Carnitas here was some of the best I’ve tasted and the amount of meat was impressive. The overall size of the burrito wasn’t the absolute largest but ample enough to fill you up. Prices were reasonable considering the quality and quantity. The outdoor seating was very lovely with a fine view of the avocado and citrus groves climbing up the hill opposite. However, the bathroom(located all the way around the back of the building was horrendous. The angry pregnant Unilocal reviewer that didn’t order anything and was refused use of the bathroom should probably consider herself lucky. The clerk was probably looking out for her health and that of the unborn fetus.

This place is going down hill for me, prices are high for the quality of food. Just for a bowl rice and beans $ 7 and then they gave me two orders of rice. SMH Get it together jillies

Good food and great service. I recommend the fish tacos and the California burrito. Two of my favorites. Just not at the same time. The portions are good sized.

Perfect fast Mexican food. Doesn’t look like much from the outside, but don’t judge this book by it’s cover. Nice people too.

Not bad. Most of the time when cruising by there is usually five to seven cars in front of the place and Yes Hispanics are the ones eating there too. So this lead me to try it out. not bad. Just had a chicken taco.

Big fan of Mexican food. From Ensenada to Yuma to San Diego. The best Pollo Asada burrito iv’e ever had. Had this same burrito at their other locations too. Same, excellent. Be ready to get a 2.5 lb. tasty meal. Yes it’s massive yet crazy good. To be honest it’s the only thing I have ever ordered. Every time I drive down to Ocotillo Wells this place is a must. Seriously !

Seems like a regular taco shop, only way out in the boonies — a good place to stop when you are coming back from Mt. Palomar or the La Jolla Indian Reservation. We stopped in for a late lunch, and I got a Pollo Asado Torta. The torta was pretty huge, and had fresh grilled or sauteed bell peppers as well as pollo asado, guacamole, etc. One side of the sandwich didn’t have much pollo, but the other side had a good amount. One little bit of gristle. A friend of mine got a california burrito, and looked pretty good. Another friend got carne asada fries, and it looked like the standard epic of giant plate of fries with carne asada and guacamole. Salsa was good, and if you don’t like their drink selection, you can walk into the convenience store next door for a bigger selection. They had a TV, but it was turned onto an informercial the whole time. after a while we started watching it because it needed to be mocked.

Wow really cheap crap and lots of health code violations but the staff are super and there’s lots of stuff to choose from. Seriously. Really cheap crap. Seemed like frozen food microwaved and served. But it is what it is. It’s an enjoyable place to go…

Gets 4 stars because of perspective: I was a big fan of being able to eat quick taco shop food in the middle of «nowhere». Keeps the 4 stars because it was pretty tasty and the pico de gallo was rife with cilantro— like it should be. We kept it simple and shared: —- a Rolled Taco combo plate: Four rolled tacos covered in a ton of guacamole and some authentic smelling/tasting Mexican shredded cheese… accompanied with a bit more flavorful beans than usual for a taco shop and waaay better rice than usual.(The rolled tacos only came with shredded beef… no problem there, but the flavor wasn’t too high, good news for us they covered it in guac and with pico de gallo it was sooo good) —- a Quesadilla: not too grilly but the the tortilla was delish. Lotta cheese in there but I guess they’d better pack it in at $ 3 a pop. The salsa bar was a little meager but did the trick and had the basics I was looking for: that red-orange salsa that’s everywhere, salsa verdes and pico de gallo(with lots of cilantro). Would I stop here again if I was driving through? Frankly… yes. It’s that or the other Jilbertos(or the casino’s overpriced food). So when you’re out for cheap eats and there’s only Jilbertos and it’s other brother, Jilbertos, what do you pick??? JILBERTOS !!
