My RV propane tank was leaking at the supply valve. Drove in, the owner came out, spent about 15 – 20 minutes with me explaining how the interior gaskets in the supply valve dry out when not used for a long time. He showed me how either fully open or fully closed it was sealed, and said it was perfectly safe. If I wanted to change out the valve recommended after I had used up the gas in the(full) tank, as they would have to drain the tank to do any repairs. And he said it wasn’t necessary in his opinion anyway. No charge or anything. Now that is about the best service you can get, no?

I have been a customer for ten years and I went for the last time today. After sitting in line for about five minutes waiting for my turn at the pump an some guy walks up from the other direction and drops his propane bottle next to the pump. While waiting, I made eye-contact with the guys working the pump(before the guy walked up) so they knew I was there and knew I was waiting and knew I was next. When the person in front of me pulled away and I pulled up for service and saw they they were helping the late-comer, I just drove away. Not going back there! Fortunately, I found another propane service that is less expensive and much faster. So, while I was aggravated by the lack of service, it caused me to find a better propane service station.

Close by, quick and easy. They used tanks, or you can get a new tank with a fuel gage for $ 40. Better yet, get an empty tank at Costco(Azusa store has them right now for +/-$ 25) and get it filled here. Score!

Today was my first and probably last visit here. I should have read their signs before having my tank filled since they have an $ 18.99(after tax) minimum service charge. This is something that should be clearly mentioned to customers before filling a tank since my tank was about 1/8−¼ full but I wanted it topped off for the upcoming weekend. I called ahead to ask if they refill Blue Rhino tanks, was told yes and that it’s $ 3.50 per gallon. So I drove over, and had it filled with no mention of the minimum. I’ll stick to Blue Rhino and Ameri-Gas, who offer $ 3 and $ 6 annual discounts with exchanges. Their posted prices show $ 3.50 per gallon for 5 – 11 gallons. I paid $ 18.99 for 3.5 gallons. Ameri-gas right now is $ 14.00 for 15 pounds and Blue Rhino is $ 16, after coupons and rebates. FYI, if you have a larger tank, like an 80-lb capacity, then it’s more worth it. They do sell unfilled 20-lb tanks for $ 40.

I used to go to U-Haul for propane until I found Pasadena Propane. Filling up my tanks here was quick and painless, unlike at U-Haul. The guy at Pasadena Propane got me in and out, and back to my BBQ grill in just a few minutes. I got 2 tanks filled for under $ 30.

There are things that never really occurred to me, like«Where does one refill the grill’s propane tank?» There are plenty of options if you are okay with the Blue Rhino system. That is, you buy a filled tank and exchange it for a filled tank when yours runs empty. You can go to any OSH or Walmart for that. We did the math and opted out of that system, deciding that filling it ourselves was more fiscally sound. Pasadena Propane was our closest refill location with a giant propane tank. You pull up, a nice guy fills it up for $ 18.50($ 17 for propane; $ 1.50 for tax) and you are off. Not much of a hassle and you save money. Sounds like a winning combination to me.

Okay, so it’s that time of year, right, when you clean and prep the Bar-B-Q and have great plans for the perfect steak. So off I went to fill up the propane tanks. They were easy to get to in terms of location, very helpful, and quickly filled up the tanks for me and put them(now heavy) back into my trunk. About $ 16 a tank, and a quick in and out. It’s a pretty smelly job filling those things, so the guy who helped me more than earned the $ 5 tip I handed him :) This is where I’ll go again in future.
