Over priced for the little portion. I was hoping the taste would make up for it too but. Augh! Failed.

Ugh yes! Carne asada fries are sooo good. Open 24 hours so perfect after the bar food! The 4 stars is only because their other food is so-so. You seriously can’t go wrong with the fries though. Trust.

Came here late Friday night because we were craving tacos and this place was open. We ordered the carne asada tacos and an asada quesadilla. The taco comes with onion, sauce and plenty of meat. The quesadilla is a generous portion sliced in four large pieces and comes with a side of sour cream. It was not bad, but I’ve had better at other taco joints. I would only come here because of its convenient location and 24 hours service.

This place is okay, it is convienent to go to when I am starving in the middle of the night wanting food. Wouldn’t come here just to have some dinner, the food is okay. Wierd people around the night time.

The good was the service… the bad was the food. I don’t think I’ve ever had food as tasteless as what I got at Viva Tacos La Estrella! Even hospital food is better. I ordered the taquitos which were very nicely fried, but the chicken inside was mushy and tasteless like mystery stuff … I couldn’t figure out what it was. It looked like chicken but tasted and felt like mushy cardboard? I tried fixing it with their salsa, but that had no flavor either. I tried salt, but I was a bit afraid of stroking out with the amount I had to add to the meal. I also tried the enchilada platter … I was planning on having leftovers to take back to the office for snacking on later, but the enchiladas were as tasteless and mushy as the taquito meat. I shouldn’t have ordered both things at the same time, but it’s just what I usually do so I don’t have to wait a second time. I wound up tossing the food, it was that bad.. … sighhhh … but like I mentioned earlier, the service was good and the only bright spot about Viva Tacos.

One of the few places nearby that is open 24⁄7. Good for late night munchies. I’ve gotten the al pastor nachos, carne asada fries, and lengua tacos. Everything is probably a little bit more expensive but hey the are open all day. They give a lot of meat on the tacos but the downside it that I don’t think there are enough onions and cilantro. Their hot sauce is not hot. The carne asada fries were decent but the meat was a bit tough. I actually liked the al pastor nachos. There was more flavor in it than the fries.

24-hr local taco spot because who doesn’t want tacos, sopes, and tortas at 3am? We will occasionally pickup tacos from here for work lunch too, but no longer. Not sure if there was a recent ownership change but the food quality has noticeably gone down and prices up. Cabeza and fish tacos are suddenly bland and the carnitas are so dry you start to choke? Plus .25 to get extra sauce(so you don’t choke on said carnitas) what’s going on here? Service has always been bad but with higher prices than what you pay at any taco truck(and Pasadena has a few good ones) can’t say this spot should be on your radar late night. Unless it’s between this place and Jack N The Box at 3am. Salvaging the 1-star review is the palletas(ice cream) which is a nice treat but I have a soft spot for this and Jarritos Mandarina. Oh well, hope to update this review but maybe this spots’ best days are behind it.

Everything is good at Viva Tacos La Estrella. But the only thing I ever order are the Asada fries. This place is a late night staple in Pasadena. Gotta love the red sauce. Décor could be better, but that doesn’t really matter since the food is so good. This location is the best of all the La Estrella locations

Visited this fine establishment at 5am when I woke up extremely hungry and with a craving for an asada quesadilla. Of corse the place was empty so we were able to order quickly. The quesadilla did not disappoint a very size able portion with pico de gallo, crema, and your choice of salsa. Their tacos are also on point. But my second favorite item are the burritos. Full to the brim those bad boys are usually good for two meals unless you are über hungry.

Late night munchies! We ordered a quesadilla, carne asada tacos, and fish tacos. We called the order in for pick up and it was all right. I’d go to puebla tacos instead. I suppose the upside is that this place is open 24⁄7. The carne asada tacos were decent. It was mostly meat. I wish it had a little more onions or cilantro. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they weren’t skimping on the meat but sometimes the meat needs some flavorful friends you know? My husband ate the fish tacos and he said it was pretty good as well but nothing extraordinary. I ate the quesadilla. Lots of oddly distributed cheese, which I don’t are about– except when one portion has like 1⁄3 cheese and mostly empty tortilla. :(Oh well. It was also really soggy/oily. My fingers were drenched when I tried to rip it apart. The hot sauce was a little weak as well. Very mild, but if you like that, then awesome. I preferred the verde, the red sauce was more roasty, and chipotle style but no punch to it. Overall, I probably wouldn’t return here, there’s just so many other options that you can find for better quality.

So far the BEST sope I ever bought! Perfect! Lots of deliciously seasoned carne asada and queso fresco, crunchiness to the sope like I like it, salsa on the side so I could determine how spicy I wanted it. The salsa was good too. One sope filled me up, but I still wanted to keep eating more. Always tempted to come here for a sope when I visit my boyfriend.

I tend to wait a couple of tries before posting a review and my allegiance is with King Taco. This place is fantastic! Great tacos, sopas, and burritos! Had all carne asada, bean and cheese, and fish tacos. Both times were great and will definitely be back. Love the short lines and 24/7access.

This place is great ! Late night 24⁄7 great nachos. great Enchiladas. Really Awesome Chile relleno — I have had this dish many times this is one of the best I’ve had. Cheese was melted perfectly with a great sauce and Smokin Hot Sauce. Each dish is made to Order which lets the shells always stay crispy. The Wet Burrito«Pollo» is a real good and stuffed with chicken and Rice. Good Quality Chicken which I always pay attention to. Will be back again and again

We were traveling and looked this place up. Decided to stop in on 8⁄27 approx. 9:50PM. Orders the Asada Taco & Pollo Taco«little tacos» & they were okay. Combo Sopes/Carne Asada were good & large helping of rice and beans on the side. Carne Asada burrito was good size & pretty tasty. My husband asked for it with«no rice or beans»: just meat, quac, & pico! Perfect! Two employees on staff were pleasant and accommodating.

Great carne Asada fries. Hard shell taco was surprisingly«American/taco bell» shell style. However, the carne asana is great. Friendly service, busy place for lunch. Call in your order if your short on time

If I had read a negative review about this place when I was still living in Pasadena, about 2 years ago, I probably would have tracked the reviewer down, sewn their butt cheeks close and force fed them carne asada fries until their opinion of this place changed. My first visit there since leaving dena completely changed my stance. I don’t know if there has been a change in ownership while my back was turned, but this place did the impossible and made a basic carne asada burrito taste like it was made as a kosher dog meal. I’m going to try not to go too hard on this place as it was my first visit here in almost 2 years and this could have been a complete coincidence. I’m just going to suggest that you take heed to the negative comments that have recently been left here, mainly people from Pasadena/Altadena, because they likely have history with this place. I wish I had taken a picture of me spiking that crap into a trash can… I’ve lost my last bit of hope in the world. Someone please refer me to a good Mexican spot that is open 24hours. Distance is not an issue

Estrella serves up some reasonably priced Mexican food, 24 hours a day. I have a vague recollection of coming here from time to time when I was younger; however, I can’t say with any regularity. If memory serves, this place used to be less expensive, and the food was bigger. But time marches on, and that story is probably at code at many shops and restaurants around town. $ 1.35 for one of those micro tacos this isn’t the greatest deal in the world. But five of them on a plate looks really cool, even though you’re probably pushing eight bucks. That’s a little heavy in the pocket for a unique glorified brick-and-mortar taco shop. As always, I got a couple of lengua tacos, along with a carne asada burrito… All meat of course. When I ordered, I asked the lady behind the counter what came in the all meat burrito. «Only meat» was her reply, and I sort of felt like a dummy. For the purposes of good form, I asked her to include some pico de gallo, and some guacamole. Everything was fine, but only fine… Not great. The tacos were tasty but small, and, as another Unilocal review suggested, the carne asada seasoning is off– like they got a pack of Great Value taco seasoning at WalMart and used that. It chewed like asada, but tasted like homemade ground beef with Lawry’s taco seasoning. If it’s 3AM and you convince your designated driver to bring you here, this place is probably the bomb Diggity. But the rest of the time, it doesn’t really stand out in a sea of taco places in strip malls across SoCal.
