I met Stephen and Samuel two years ago when i bought a bank owned property. It was a loft style condominium and was in horiffic shape. I knew it had potential but was overwhelmed by the vast and emptiness of the space. Samuel and Stephen came in and transformed my home. They gave me options to help me see the possibilities. They designed three different and distinct floor plans for me to review, and worked with me through the construction work that needed to be completed. I am greatful for their insightful assistance and would recommend and use them again.

My husband and I moved to SF about a year ago now. This review is terribly overdue. When we arrived to the Bay Area, our first challenge was finding a new home. Naturally, the next was to outfit it with furnishings that fit the space so we sought help. I emailed Samuel and Steve after we secured an apartment. They invited us over to their studio to meet us and assess our requirements and style. We opted for a subscription service where INSTUDIO provides various interior design options at different price points. INSTUDIO even provides the vendor information and price list associated with each option. The beauty of this service is that we were provided a plan we could customize based on our preferences (we ended up meshing furniture and accessories from 2 different plans) and budget. The end result is a home that is uniquely furnished with things we love, reflects our style, and fits the space perfectly. Thanks INSTUDIO!

InStudio helped us choose finishes during our massive renovation period. They were so great to work with… if I showed a photo from a magazine they found the item and 3 – 4 more options. Our home is now complete and a true reflection of us and how we live. We couldn’t be happier with the work Samuel, Stephen and Lynn did for us!

These folks are amazing… not only do they do a wonderful job of translating your addle-​brained vague ideas into concrete and scintillating reality, they do it in a way that makes you feel like you did your own design. I feel a real sense of ownership and belonging in my office that didn’t really seem possible in a work space. It’s the perfect mix of artsy and professional…
And they’re a pleasure to work with too. They take your design very personally, and h happily work with your budget. They would stop by our office with cool things they found in their attic or on Craigslist and just give’em to us, after the initial design was mostly done! Just cause they were still thinking about little tweaks and improvements.
I honestly never thought I’d work with an interior designer, the whole idea gives me the heebeejeebies, but after one too many embarrassed looks from clients, it was time to do SOMETHING. I thought we’d just clean up, not feel super cool.

We have a typically awkward San Francisco-​bay window-​split living room plus a remodeled kitchen/​living area that was all disjointed and not coming together as a coherent home. We are design savvy, but could not conceptualize how to best use our tricky space. The additional space we gained from our kitchen remodel made our original living room somewhat obsolete and clumsy. Our home is not big enough to have unused real estate!
Stephen and Samuel from INSTUDIO came in with a fresh and ingenious perspective and drew up many options for using our space more wisely and more beautifully. They understood that we wanted to choose our own things (keep some of our furniture and buy some new stuff). Plus, they completely understood how our two young boys need to use (and potentially destroy) our home. We chose a combination of their ideas and have completely transformed our space.
They are creative, clear, flexible, and easy and fun to work with.

When I opened my business, I wanted a comfortable and inviting space for both my employees and clients, but I was hesitant to hire an interior design firm due to my extremely limited budget.
I was introduced to Steve and Samuel and invited them to the office to take a look. I expected them to laugh at me when I gave them my budget, but they didn’t even flinch!

These guys are GREAT, I would recommend them without hesitation. I met Stephen at a business seminar by chance and hired InStudio to come over for a design consultation for my flat in San Francisco. They were very efficient and took measurements and came up with a new floorplan, helped with choosing paint colors, and generally gave me lots of ideas I could use. They were careful to listen to what I wanted, and looked at design ideas from magazines I had saved. The new floor plan totally changed the look and feel of my apartment, it has been quite remarkable. They understood that I was on a miniscule budget and just wanted to use what I had, and do some painting. I did purchase some new drapes and ended up recovering some pieces, but they didn’t push me in any way.
They were extremely pleasant to work with, and I thought that I really got great results for a great price. They made me see my flat in a whole new way, and it’s so much more functional and beautiful now! I think I also liked that they didn’t make me feel embarrassed about my housekeeping or design skills (or lack thereof.)
They are true pros and really know what they’re doing, and are easy to work with. They are a great design resource and, I would certainly use them again and recommend them to anyone.
