This is the best bed and breakfast on the big island! Todd is amaze. The jungle is breath-taking. More importantly, the breakfast is killer. If you stay here, you will also get hooked up with a lot of insider tourist-less attractions like the steam caves down the street, island-esque food locations, or the lava-flow tour boats. I am probably going to stay here very soon. Hopefully on my spring break. LOVEYOUTODD :)

The B&B had been under a new management since last December but you’d never know it. Doug & Jaime had been great hosts and the place is in a wonderful rural area of the Big island. Though the website states that they are open till 7pm, they were very accomodating to allow us to check-in at 9:30pm since our LAX-ITO flight landed at 8pm, the island pace to get your car rental and drive the easy 30 miles from Hilo to get here. Our family of four rented the Garden Bungalow for 6 nights with a soft queen bed and futon sofa bed. My wife and I with our kids 11&9 were very comfortable and enjoyed just enough space to not get in each other’s way. The bungalow had a fridge with a few refreshments, but if there are any large items in there, chances are Doug is using it as a extra fridge for the main house breakfast. Breakfast was in the mornings around 8:30am, so for us being from the Mainland, we were too wide awake the first two mornings to stick around. When we finally caught up to Island time, we were treated to Doug’s culinary expertise with frittatas, monkey bread, banana bread, portguese sausage, and great presentation of the local fruit. As an option, Doug was also available for making picnic basket lunches and to prepare a formal dinner, though they were bit pricey. On a final note, I thought I had done my fair share of research before our vacation on the Hilo side of the Big Island. What I did not know was the amount of Coqui frogs living specifically in the Pahoa area. Though eventually, the Coqui croaks became«white» noise after an evening or so, will be a shocking surprise to any first time visitor. Overall, the Coconut Cottage B&B was a wonderful vacation for us. We would not consider looking elsewhere if in the area again. Doug & Jaime, keep up the great work!
