I’m not a coffee drinker, but enjoyed going w my kids and having coffee, pastries and sitting outside.

The Good: Good coffee and food. Great staff. The Bad: The back door handle is broken. The standard cup are disposable cups despite the fact they have reusable mugs. There is also no recycling bins inside, making the matter worse.

Food and breakfast was awesome. Service was great even though they were very busy. Coffee on the other hand… Not so much. I ordered a pour over which was okay at best best, and ordered espresso for here. The espresso was served in a to-go cup and was pulled far too long and was far too hot. If you’re a coffee enthusiast or a barista then I wouldn’t recommend coming here for coffee.

There is nothing at all wrong with this place but I have to say I don’t get the hype and would not classify this as a breakfast/brunch place. While on vacation I wanted to have a nice relaxing breakfast/brunch with food that made me say… wow! Based on the reviews, that is what I thought would happen. Unfortunately, it did not. The coffee was from Whole Foods and was very good(I am a fan of allegro coffee) but I was surprised they didn’t source from a smaller craft business, and there are plenty of great small coffee roasters in CO! Secondly, there isn’t that much in the way of food. The menu looks good however upon ordering a ham & cheese croissant the barista asked me if there were any pre-made in the refrigerated case next to the register. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t much better than one I could order at the deli at safeway or king soopers! The food tasted fresh enough but the cheese didn’t really melt all the way and there wasn’t really anything all that special about it. I don’t want to sound stuck up because there is nothing wrong with being a coffee shop that offers corporate coffee and pre-made sandwiches but honestly, I can get that anywhere. I would not recommend this place for a leisurely quality meal but it seems just fine for some quick coffee and sandwich on the go.

The coffee was good, and the service was great! The shop has a great atmosphere with cute mugs/gifts for sale as well as art from local artists. I quite enjoyed this place and will definitely be back!

My husband and I have been on our honeymoon this past week here in Pagosa Springs. We have visited this cute little coffee shop EVERY day. I absolutely love their London Fog. My husband has had several different drinks, all of which he has enjoyed. Thank you Higher Grounds for making sure this couple has had their coffee fix this past week.

This place just doesn’t quite fit. It doesn’t. It’s a rather remarkable little coffee house in the confines of a timeshare haven. The baristas during both visits were totally cool, obvious locals, the cups were pretty solid(we had an Americano, latte, dirty chai and hot cocoa, a perfect pour for the four year-old). But really, it’s a solid coffee house. There are two sipping areas, one featuring a communal table that’s great for, again, locals who want a co-working space, which is why I visited in the first place. Our timeshare didn’t have wifi.(For shame!) One peculiar note about my second visit, and I’m not dogging this. Great cafes double as community centers, or at a minimum, venues for connection, networking, promotion of what’s happening. I was there with my kid, and I noticed a stack of children’s books, so while we sat I read her a book about a Christmas elf. And the book was basically filled with Christian propaganda. I would give it more props if it was a good book, but it really wasn’t. But it was written by a local, so I understood why it was there. It was just an uncomfortable moment, I suppose, as a parent who doesn’t practice any organized religion, to say to my kid, like, «Hey, that elf who talked about Jesus, he’s really talking about Santa.» And the irony of this entire ordeal is that Santa, and the whole Christmas shebang, is basically the the Great Lie of the American Parent, executed brilliantly. My kid knows that unicorns, trolls and dragons aren’t real. Santa? He’s totally legit. (All I’m sayin’, guys, is you should reconsider the books.)

I love good local coffee shops and this one does not disappoint. My wife loves a good chai tea latte that is extra hot. Not only was the taste better then normal, but the temperature was spot on. If you know my wife, you know that is hard to accomplish. I got an iced Americano. That too was delicious. All in all, a good little joint.

Stayed in pagosa sprigs for a week on vacation and I am not a coffee drinker at all, the nice thing about Higher Grounds is that they had drinks that weren’t just coffee, however the coffee which I tried a few times was delicious. The breakfast snacks that were offered were delicious and if you’re looking for a low key breakfast and coffee place while you visit you have to visit higher grounds. It’s a great environment and a great place to hang out.

Great vibes at this joint. The coffee rocks and so do the breakfast tacos. They have messed up orders a couple of times, but that is par for this city apparently.

This place has great coffee, I like allegro so this makes me happy. Besides the good coffee they serve wine and beer plus warm sandwiches. My daughter had a gluten free caprese and she was very excited about it. I had the Greek salad and let’s be real… you can’t go wrong w a fresh salad right? It was loaded with feta cheese and Kalamata olives ;) I was very satisfied with the size and flavor of it. About the building, it’s spacious and easily can hold groups. Lots of cute art and mugs for sale. Since Pegosa is a tourist place this is a great place to grab last minute souvenirs. This is definitely where the locals hangs out, I seen the barista called a few costumers by name. Why they don’t get 5 stars? Well… the beer is very limited and not many local beer options :(this is disappointing because as tourist we want the whole package. A fun place where we can try good local Colorado beer without the«bar» concept. So yes I will be coming back here and yes I highly re commend it for the coffee and ambiance. Enjoy it!

3 stars for friendly service, minus 2 stars for the quality of the product. I bought 3 drinks during my stay, hoping the next one would be the 4 stars that the reviews show. The coffee tastes overstrained. The flavored syrups(chocolate and coconut) are not tasty, and the lattè was lacking in nice thick foam and tastes bitter also. Nice people there though!

Higher Grounds has always been my favorite coffee shop! I worked here for a little over two years and it was and still is the best job I’ve ever had! The employees and my co-workers were and still are the most hospitable, knowledgable people I’ve ever met. It’s so cozy and welcoming and has the best lattes of my life, especially since they serve Allegro coffee. They’ve recently expanded and now they have a bar and serve alcoholic beverages, which makes this place even better. This place has amazing freshly baked pastries and food every single day, an amazing staff, great drinks and food, plenty of seating inside and outside, a multitude of books to read or games to choose from, a computer to use if you don’t bring your own, along with free wifi, making it the best coffee shop in town. It’s super close if you’re staying in any of Wyndam’s properties and has the grocery store, video store, and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. I recommend this place to all my family and friends!

Spent an afternoon at this little tucked away gem while staying a hotel across the street. For such a small town as Pagosa Springs its was nice to find a great coffee shop such as this. The girls at the front counter were very friendly and the wifi was quite fast. Ended up going back the next day for some wonderful breakfast as well.

By Pagosa Springs standards, Higher Grounds deserves 4& ½ stars. Lovely atmosphere. Competent management. Coffee here is just okay – nothing special – but among the top 3 javas in town. Menu includes hearty items for snacking or a meal. And wine! Decent wine! Sincere, typically relaxed(slow) Pagosa service. A few cute cards and gifts. If you’re visiting PS and need wifi or a decent cup of Joe or a place to concentrate, this is it.
