Came here for some tamales, I was very disappointed. They are so small in size and length. They lack on flavor also. Would not recommend

Always delicious. Cash only. Spanish not required but handy. The ladies who run the joint are super friendly. 3 bar stools at a walk up window. Limited parking.

Great little hole in the wall spot for locals. I was particularly fond of their grilled chicken. For some reason chicken tends to be a tough one for places to get right. Most places get the carne asada right but I think this is a good spot to get some grilled chicken tacos, especially on the weekends when they set up a grill outside. This is a to-go spot. I paid $ 5 for 3 tacos which is a good value in my book for non-street tacos. This place has about 3 counter seats so it’s mostly a to-go establishment.

Have placed several large orders for tamales through here. They were always on time and always delicious! Also if you are feeling daring they have an amazingly hot green chili. If you have a chance to get out there for the on the spot grilled chicken i highly recommend it!

Mexi-Tamal has the best tamales in the valley PERIOD. These tamales are HUGE and just filled with goodness! I highly recommend the cheese tamales. On my way to work I stop by there every other chance I get and always pick up half a dozen for myself and my co-workers.

I’ve lived in The San Fernando valley majority of my life and i have to say that the Tortas from this place are amazing!!! The tamales are so full of flavor and just perfectly made especially the cheese ones. The service is extremely friendly and they make your order right away. i also went back about two weeks later and i order a chicken that the grill outside in the front of the corner of the block. and it was the best!!! i recommend this place and i will definitely will be going back. The parking is a bit difficult but you can park in the supermarkets parking lot

The fact that I tried this place was pure serendipity. Granted the valley is chock-full of Mexican joints, so cherry picking the good ones can prove to be difficult. But on the eve of a very strong craving, my husband shows up with a bag full of grilled chicken, green chile chicken tamales, and some tortas. HOLYSHYEEE… I’ve had my share of tamales, but these stood out. They were moist with an adequate ratio of filling, which I can be a bit of whiny a bi*** about. The grilled tortas were AWESOMELY loaded with chicken,(although a bit spicy!) The grilled chicken(which I am assuming had been taken RIGHT off the grill the way it tasted) fell apart in a very, very good way. That chicken never stood a chance. Alas, I can’t speak for the service since I wasn’t there, but I WILL be veeeery soon to see what else they got!

The Carne Asada burritos here are fantastic. It’s a walk-up window with not much in the way of seating but excellent food and friendly(non-English speaking) service. It had a B rating when I went which can be disturbing to some but the taste makes it worth the risk.

Wow — what can I say other than 2 lb burritos chock full of your choice of meat and extremely nice service? First off, be prepared to speak a little Spanish, the lady is quite friendly and always willing to help you along in your Spanish language adventure. Second, once you make your meat choice, the delivery method is up to you whether that be tacos, a burrito, or a torta(Mexican sandwich). Now, did I mention FREE sour cream(Mexican style, thin, tangy and delicious). A gem in the glut of authentic Mexican food. Not only is it truly authentic, minus the sour cream, the friendliness of the owner really seals the deal.

My coworker and I just went here for lunch today after reading the two reviews for the place. We are always looking for a good place for lunch, and this was just a block away so we decided to try it. WOW! we both had a burrito, I had the Carne Asada, he spoke a little Spanish so was able to ask the woman there what she would recommend, she suggested half Carne Asada, half Barbacoa. they were huge. no extra charge for sour crème, and the woman was the nicest, sweetest person. She spoke English about as well as I spoke Spanish but some how we managed. My buddy and I devoured our burritos, they were AWESOME. re-fried beans instead of pinto or black. rice, meat, pico degallo, in a fresh tortilla. After finishing we both looked at each other, and thought if I did nto have to be back at my desk in 2 minutes, I would head back and get another right now. Heck I may pick one up on the way home from work. They really are a whole in the wall, even being in the parking lot for the center you could possibly miss them. but don’t. Seating is limited, meaning almost non existent, the have 6 stools in front of the place but if you sit in one of them you are blocking the order window. so be fore warned. but the food was exceptional.

Having never painted a house before I was not prepared for how truly difficult this work was. So after a few hours of grueling house painting I was jonesing for some delicious nosh in my belly. My dad said that he had seen an open BBQ pit while driving into town. So the 6 of us were off. The delicious scents wafted into my nose long before I even saw the pit. I was hooked before I even got out of the car. My parents ordered a whole chicken from the pit and we ordered practically everything from the menu while we waited. I had one lengua taco and one carnitas taco. Ted had three tamales(1 fresh corn, 1 pork and 1 chicken). Everyone else had a combination of tamales, tacos, burritos. Your standard Mexican staples. There was only one table and four chairs so a few of us were standing around. The insanely nice people inside brought out another table and a few more chairs for us to relax in. Then they even offered me their sink so I could wash the paint of my hands. Everything was beyond delicious. I especially enjoyed my chicken. It was clearly super fresh and had some perfect seasonings on it. Smokey and great. The lengua had great flavor and was done to perfection. It wasn’t springy like lengua can get and all the delicious goodness on top of the taco rounded out the flavors in a wonderful way. Little brother’s bean and cheese burrito, «blew [his] mind.» He’s already planned us driving all the way back to Pacoima for his birthday dinner. Seriously. The corn tamale was not sweet corn, it was fresh corn, and that is totally different. It was still perfect and I hardly got more than one bite as Ted inhaled them. The piece de resistance was the horchata. This was without a doubt the best horchata I have ever had! There have been very close competitors but this totally stood above the bunch. They told me all about their time intensive homemade horchata perfection. Diet be damned I had seconds. And it was soooo worth it! If ever you are painting a house down the street you HAVE to come here for some high quality, totally authentic Mexican classic dishes.

me and the gf were out on van nuys blvd this morning and wanted lunch. i didn’t feel much like mexican after having it for lunch on thursday, but that’s pretty much the only choice on the boulevard, so oh well. we were sitting at a stop light facing south at glenoaks when we noticed a lady barbecuing chicken outside a corner mall. it smelled good so we decided to check it out. i pulled into the small crowded parking lot of the corner mall within a corner mall(it’s so freakin’ hilarious. you gotta see it with your own eyes) and we ended up at this place, el mexitamal, which serves a nice variety of mexican food– tacos, burritos, tamales, tortas ahogadas, etc. they have a tiny location which is barely noticeable unless they are barbecuing their chicken out by the corner. in fact, the kitchen takes up the whole storefront with only like 3 seats outside at a ledge next to the ordering window. it’s pretty much strictly take-out for the locals but we had no place to go, didn’t feel like making a mess in the car, and ended up squeezing in by the ledge. we ordered a couple tamales(pork and chicken), a couple tacos(pastor and asada), a torta ahogada(with carnitas), champurrado, and a jamaica drink. gawd, lately i’ve been ordering way too much at restaurants because i want to have a nice variety to sample for my Unilocal reviews. this is definitely adversely affecting my health. note to self: i need to stop pigging out on account of Unilocal. anywho, the huge tamales were extremely fresh and moist. very tasty. although, they definitely could’ve made them smaller with less masa as they weren’t totally stuffed with meat. the grande tacos were packed in a couple fresh tortillas and topped with fresh chopped salsa. the asada was very flavorful and tender. the pastor was spicy and had subtly sweet undertones. didn’t know how authentic it was but it sure tasted like it. the delicious ahogada was filled with grilled carnitas and onion in a sourdough roll and topped with a freshly-blended, warm tomato sauce. the jamaica drink was a little too sweet for our tastes. definitely preferred the stuff at el sauz. but the champurrado(a chocolate-cinnamon blended porridge) was a very nice breakfast/dessert drink to finish the meal. i was pretty impressed by this place. it has low prices and the food was fresh and excellent. tamales cost a buck and a half. tacos are a buck and a quarter for regular-sized and a couple bucks stuffed. burritos and ahogadas are like 5 bucks a piece with small drinks around a buck and large ones for a couple bucks. the service was very friendly. the older lady behind the counter doesn’t know much english but her cute daughter(?) who works with her is very fluent. a sign on the window says ‘fresh handmade tortillas’ but i saw a bag of tortillas from super ‘a’ foods on a table at the back of the kitchen. i guess they mean fresh handmade from super ‘a’ foods. they taste great so no complaints here. all in all, we’ll definitely check this place out again to try their barbecued chicken and other stuff on the menu…
