The rolls are super filling and delicious. The prices are a bit expensive, around $ 10-$ 13 per roll. Best time is to come in during happy hour(after 5pm) if you’re desiring sushi, because they have a list where it’s buy one get one free. My favorite was the Clayton roll — not too filling or creamy, very flavorful.

First and only visit to Wasabi and we will not be returning! Upon entering we were told it’d be a 5 – 10 minute wait… there were less than 7 tables occupied.(Red flag) I usually have a glass of plum wine with my sushi, but with a price of $ 9 for a glass and knowing I could get a bottle of plum wine from the local liquor store for $ 9, I decided to pass Ordered a seaweed salad for $ 5.50, and there were equal parts seaweed and cucumber in the bowl.(I can get an entire container of seaweed salad at Costco for the price of the puny bowl tonight) Ordered the Rasta Roll, which was supposed to be salmon, avocado, mango and jalapeño…only good thing about that roll was the mango. I couldn’t taste the avocado or the salmon at all. Our Spicy Tuna had a predominantly fishy smell(yes, I know it’s sushi/fish)…but definitely fishy-er than expected and had two pieces of cucumber inside. My boyfriend and I usually share our sushi if we order different items, but tonight’s food was so nasty that we didn’t even want to subject each other to the grossness that was on our plates. Which had already begun to bother my boyfriend stomach before we even left the restaurant less than an hour from the time we sat down. Good thing we had a Groupon, because there was no way we would have paid $ 50 for the nastiness we had tonight. Next time we’re in the mood for sushi, we will either go to Asa or Kyoto!

Sadly, we were stuck with a server who did not care to check on our table. 1) We had dirty soy sauce plates and since our server never checked on us, we had to ask the hostess & other waiter/waitress constantly. 2) When my husband poured his soy sauce a fly came out. And our waiter didn’t bring us another plate so I had to get up and ask to get one from another table. 3) We ordered dinner combos that comes with miso soup. We didn’t get soup and I had to ask a different waitress for it and she seemed surprised that our waiter didn’t offer it with what we ordered. I would’ve been content with her as our waitress! She seemed very more experienced than the male server we had. Lastly, 4) When our server came back with my card, it was sticky… Overall, poor/lacking service and the cleanliness of this restaurant was poor.

I have honestly never received such rude and rushed service at any restaurant, not even at a Panera Bread at closing time. The fried squid was harder than chicken gristle, and the eel and fish used in the rolls tasted old. The sushi was clearly prepared incredibly quickly with no care to presentation or quality. Also, despite making a reservation, I was rushed to a table and told the restaurant would be closing at 9, despite the fact that my boyfriend and I arrived at 8PM. Prairie Fire is an upscale shopping area and this restaurant’s patrons were mostly decked out in camouflage hunting jackets and work boots. Trashiest sushi restaurant I have ever visited. 0 stars if possible. Also, the door leaves a nasty draft and I was uncomfortably cold the entire time. What a failure.

After catching a show at the Cinema next door — awesome location — we decided to grab a quick bite at this sushi bar. We were pleased to discover that it was happy hour and all rolls were $ 6.00. It was a bummer that they were out of Miso soup on a freezing evening — never experienced that at a sushi place — so we ordered edamame to start instead. We ordered a mixture of rolls: California, Rainbow Roll, Ceviche Roll, and others. I also ordered a bento box — it included green salad with an AWESOME ginger dressing, California roll, rice, veggie /shrimp tempura, an egg roll(I guess they were out of the veggies that were stated on the menu), and shrimp teriyaki. I basically left the shrimp because it had a metallic taste that scared me. When the check arrived the waiter had charged us full price(The tab was around $ 150.00 — really high for the food quality) and we politely reminded him about the $ 6 roll special and it was reduced. Also, Unilocal offered a 10% off discount for checking in — thanks Unilocal — which they«had never seen before» but still honored. All in all it was a decent experience but I wouldn’t return — RA at Town Center is far superior.

Very nice place and quiet, it was great for dinner w/a friend from out of town. We got a bunch of stuff, and it was all for the most part pretty good and fresh tasting. We started w/ seaweed salad: good(same as anywhere else) Spicy Seafood salad: this was amazing! It was so good, you gotta try it. I loved the sauce that it was smothered it. Kinda a suki yaki tasting sauce. It’s raw fish chunks tossed in this spicy sauce on a bed of romain. Rolls Spicy Mango: I didn’t love this one, the mango cilantro sauce was I didn’t really like, it was just okay Spider: probably my favorite, the soft shell crab was excellent! Playboy: it was good, nothing to special about it Spicy Scallop: That was good too! nothing special but nothing bad! All in all it was good, I’d like to come back soon.

My favorite place here in Overland Park! I am from Southern California so I know my way around good seafood and sushi. That being said, this place is yummyyyyyy!!! My husband loves the fried squid appetizer and if I was on death row and had to pick my last meal, it WOULDBE their ceviche roll and their baked scallop roll. Seriously? To die for!!! Don’t skip on this place because it is so good and you will not be disappointed!

I honestly couldn’t decide between 2 and 3 stars. The atmosphere is pleasant. Service was ok. Our waitress was fairly attentive at first but it took longer than it should to get our check especially since there were so few tables and our waitress just seemed to be walking around. She was very sweet though so not too bad. The food is why I wanted to give two stars. The edamame appetizer was ok, but nothing special. The vegetable tempura was actually quite delicious, especially the sauce that came with it. Now to the sushi. Bland is the best word I can think of. We had the«Yummy», «Windy City», and the vegetable roll. The eel sauce on the Windy City was good but the rest of the roll was not very flavorful. The other two were just blah. For the prices you pay, I’d expect better. Next time my friend and I want sushi we are going back to RA who is much better.

Brought my son in for sushi night. Atmosphere is excellent. We ordered a variety of rolls that we devoured. Service was unbeatable! Can’t wait for our next night out. This place is a hidden treasure. Not busy on a Thursday night, must be the Chiefs game.

I cannot call the food they serve Japanese food. It’s kind of like as if they looked at pictures of jap food online and try to cook them without knowing what those food taste like. So, by looking, yes, they did look like Ramen or Udon that was expected. But tasting it, it’s like they just did not know which sauce to use for which dish. I had ramen which tasted like it was seasoned with jap salad dressing.

Andre did an excellent job! Knowledgeable and friendly. Hubby had nigiri and a spicy tuna roll and I had the crazy ll roll. Great flavor and fresh quality for everything. I asked for a spicy roll without a lot of extra calories and his suggestions were spot on! We will return and I can’t wait to try out their happy hour.

I’m always up for sushi, so I was thrilled when a friend called to ask me to meet her here, because her Groupon was expiring soon. So many places get confused by Groupons or don’t understand the protocol surrounding them, but it couldn’t have been easier here. Much appreciated! The lunch special is a great deal– you get a lot of food for $ 10.95 each– an appetizer, your choice of soup or salad, and a roll, which are all 6 or 8 pieces. For our appetizers, we ordered shrimp tempura(it was the most breading I’ve ever seen on shrimp,) edamame(they were wonderful, if a tad too salty. Huge portion!) We got our choice of miso soup or ginger salad & both chose the ginger salad. It was amazing. I could easily drink the dressing– it had a little orange zesty kick to it. Delicious! For our entrees, we got the wasabi crunch roll(it was amaaaaazing. I’ll definitely be back for more of that!), and two additional rolls, one yellowtail and one salmon. They easily accommodated our substitution of scallions for cucumber in one of them. They were good, but nothing especially great, and the rice on them was very loose– this was the messiest sushi I’ve ever eaten. Our waitress was lovely. She explained everything really well and kept our water glasses filled. It was odd that the entrees came out almost immediately after ordering our appetizers. I need some time to breathe! I love the picture menus. It was nice to see all of our options. I also appreciated how they had both regular and low-sodium soy sauce on the table. The nigiri is priced per piece. At every other sushi place I’ve ever been to, it’s priced per 2 piece, so this definitely isn’t the most affordable sushi you’ll ever have. Nor is it the best, but it was really good and in a pleasant, well decorated, clean atmosphere. The Muzak could’ve been at a lower volume however. I’m betting that it was turned up for lunch and never turned down after the big rush left. We were there from about 1:00 — 2:15.

We ate at 7pm on a Monday, turns out all day Monday is happy hour, but we were using a Groupon. Great staff, great service, it was a little cold inside, fantastic food. I had the spicy chicken and rice. The rice has amazing flavor, just the right amount of heat, and perfect vegetables(zucchini, asparagus, carrots, onions, mushrooms). I gave it 5 stars My husband loved his hand rolled spicy tuna(ice cream cone) it had so much fish, 2nd place went to the spicy tuna gunkwan sushi, amazing sauce. We can’t wait to go back!

Was one of the worst experience i’ve had at a sushi bar. The service was slow and the food took forever to come out. After waiting for at least 30 min the food came out all at once with cold food, missing items, and the food didn’t taste all that great. If you want an enjoyable evening try another place.

Woohoo a review that’s posted within a week of me being somewhere! Yay! Ok, so my coworkers and I were craving sushi and didn’t want to have to drive too far from the office… and we decided to give Wasabi a try. We arrived early… the restaurant doesn’t open until 11:30! Once we were able to go into the restaurant, we were seated fairly quickly… but that was the only thing that moved with any sort of speed at all. There were only 3 tables with any guests(including us) and I swear it was as if the waitress would go and hide in the back because we waited quite some time before we were able to give her our order. Granted when we were first seated we were more interested in chatting, but once we were ready… it took her at least 10 minutes to come back to us. **ok, quick side rant** What sushi restaurant, when they first open for lunch does not have Uni!!! I can understand later in the day not having any, but when they just open!!! If it’s a special item, or only available for dinner/certain times, then indicate so on the menu!!! **ok, back to the actual review** It did take a while for our orders to be delivered to us… including the miso soup. While I understand only having one sushi chef and one waitress can mean some delay in service, but not at the level we were experiencing. Honestly, service was good, just incredibly slow — which I believe bothered us simply because we were out for lunch from work. As far as the sushi, I really wanted it to be great. Especially after a discouraging review from one of my coworkers. I chalked it up to her being especially picky, but unfortunately in this case, she was correct. I have to say that I believe this is an incredibly overpriced sushi restaurant. This is one of the only sushi places that I’ve been to that’s priced nigiri sushi by the single piece! Most places will price for 2. Overall, the best way to describe the experience was… meh. I won’t discourage anyone from trying this place, but I won’t endorse it either. It’s good in a bind when you don’t want to drive far from work for lunch, but I couldn’t say more than that.

Not impressed. We have only been to Wasabi once. I would wait and review it after giving it a second chance, but there probably won’t be a second chance. There are too many sure bet Sushi places in KC. It was a cold and windy Saturday, and we decide to try Wasabi for a quick lunch. We got there at 11;15 and were happy that there was not a crowd. The doors were locked. They don’t open for lunch until 11:30. No problem, we could go across the street and check out the new Varney’s.(Well, kind of a problem, because we needed to get somewhere, but our mind was already wrapped around the idea of trying a new Sushi place). At 11:30 we went back and the door was still locked. There were two people walking around the entrance straightening plants and what not. Again, it was cold and windy. They saw us out there. After a few minutes they finally unlocked the doors. Neither of them greeted us. One took us to a table without speaking. I ordered a way over priced hot tea(because I was chilled to the bone from having to stand outside waiting. It was bitter, but nothing a little sugar couldn’t fix. Unfortunately, after asking for sugar twice and not getting it(there was only one other table of guest in the place), I sent my son off to hunt some down, But by the time he came with it, the tea was cold, and I wasn’t all that interested in it because I had started eating. For appetizers we ordered the fried squid which as good, It came with an amazing sauce. We also got the Shrimp Teriyaki. It was okay, but strangely, it was seasoned with A LOT of black pepper. We shared a lunch special that came with three different rolls. None of them are worth mentioning. Half of it was left on the plate. What little flavor the clear soup had, it had a funk to it. I couldn’t tell if it was an on purpose funk or a something’s gone wrong funk. The salad was great because the ginger dressing was amazing. I really wish I could give half stars, but I can’t, so I am being generous and rounding up for two stars.

Love this place. Been there 4 times and was never disappointed. Here are a few things i was not really impressed about Wasabi 1. Priciest Sushi in town 2. The Happy hour menu and their lunch special menu do not include their best dishes. 3. The location of this Sushi place makes it almost impossible for a carryout 4. Even though they have a parking garage right behind this restaurant, it is almost impossible to find a parking spot in the evenings or during the weekend 5. Please do not greet your guests by trying to guess their origin. I am not a Hispanic but was greeted in Espanol in a Sushi restaurant :)
