After having spent a week in Tokyo eating the best sushi in probably the entire world for breakfast(literally), lunch, and dinner, we took about a 2 month break of eating it once we came back state side. Suffice to say, we were sushi’ed out. Once Yamasan opened up, my taste buds started calling for sushi again. We knew that we would never have sushi as fresh as we did at Tsukiji Fish Market, but knowing that was the half the battle. Yamasan had big shoes to fill. For starters, we got the Tuna Tataki. It tasted ok but was a tiny bit gamey. We were starving as we had just biked nearly 20 miles with the Orlando Critical Mass Group so we scarfed it down anyways. We also ordered a bottle of sake which they have a pretty extensive list of and it is nicely organized by cheapest to most expensive. We went with a $ 28 bottle and it was pretty good. We opted to sit outside since we were not really dressed trendy and didn’t want to feel bad in our workout clothes while everyone else was in their nice Friday night threads. There was a large group already out there and hogging the only space heater they had. Because it was cold that night, I ordered a bowl of Niku Beef Udon, but what I really wanted was Ramen. However, they didn’t have that. The soup was just ok. The beef was sliced thick but it was a little too thick and tough. I think it may have gotten overcooked in the hot broth. I could tell that it was grilled first and then put into the soup. It also could have used a little seasoning. The broth was also just ok, I had to add a little more soy sauce to it. The noodles were fine and there were lots of big veggies in there to make it hearty. But the soup got cold quickly than normal because it was cold outside and we ended up boxing it up and taking it home. My husband got the Beautiful Mind roll and that was the star of the night. It came in 8 huge rolls and was presented very nicely. It also tasted great. I would definitely order that again and try some more sushi of theirs. In Japan, they do not serve sushi as rolls but rather in the Nigiri or Sashimi style. Thankfully we did not have to compare the rolls to anything we had in Japan. We did leave full and would return again. Service was fine too which was nice since we thought we’d be treated differently in our casual clothing and sitting outside in a corner. One would think we would be easily forgotten but we were not.

My 2nd visit here for lunch and it has been consistently good. Chose the bento box lunch special both times. First time was with teriyaki chicken and today’s visit was teriyaki beef. Both equally good. The beef was cooked as desired and was juicy and tender. It also comes with salad and soup. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. Service was excellent both times. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside the décor is very nice. Definitely one of the best sushi places in Orlando.

The lunch bento boxes are such a great value! For about $ 11 you’ll get a miso soup, small salad, and a bento box with a selection of different items. I love the chicken curry box — it comes with a few pieces of sushi, assorted tempura, a scoop of rice, and a little dessert cup. AMAZING. I ordered a few rolls of sushi once, the fish was definitely fresh and tasted good and the prices are reasonable, maybe a bit high. The a la carte list is full of interesting rolls and combinations. The service is always exceptional!!! Five stars.

The teppanyaki food was pretty decent. The overpriced sushi was not. The only roll we enjoyed was the«fire mountain.» The place seemed a little in disarray, but I’m sure they will get that fixed in time.

Sushi dinner here was nothing but normal which is disappointing for a place in this area. Prices were high for the rolls at dinner. The sake list was focused mostly on drys. TV was loud which sort of hurt the dining mood in a place where two people can easily drop 80 bucks or more. When I ordered my sake no service options were provided. It was also unfortunate when the sushi chef and waiter started loudly arguing over a substitution order over my shoulder. Apparently he did not appreciate being asked to sub something for salmon. The sushi when it did arrive was very well prepared though. Over all, with the mills 50 area having some great Asian dining just south of here I think yamasan just is not differentiated enough to compete with the quality food further down 17⁄92.

I’ve been to Yamasan twice… both times for dinner. The restaurant is in the Mills Park shopping area near Fresh Market & Brass Tap. The restaurant has outdoor seating around the perimeter as well as inside seating. There is a nice mix of traditional Japanese décor with a contemporary edge. Love the bubble walls and splashes of color. Both times I’ve visited, I’ve been met promptly at the door and seated in a reasonable amount of time. I love Japanese food… especially Sushi. I’ve been to several of the other local places, Fuji, Seito, Shari, Chin, Kabooki and Yamasan is quickly becoming my favorite. They seem to take a few more chances with items on their menu than some of the other Japanese places do. I’ve had 2 different rolls: Dream of Dream and the Islamorada Roll. Both were good, with fresh ingredients that tasted great together. I’ve had the spicy tuna kobachi appetizer and it is very good with some new flavors that I have not had before. The biggest surprise was the Chawan Mushi soup. This soup was very different… almost a congealed custard, but it was amazing. Fresh, bright flavors that worked very well. Will definitely have this again. On both of my visits the service has been friendly, professional and prompt. The owner of the restaurant stopped by our table both times and works very hard to make sure everyone is enjoying their visit. The most recent visit saw the restaurant busy and I watched him do everything from visit tables to buss tables. That is the sign of a dedicated owner!

A single rating is difficult in this case, because some things were better than others. I’d definitely come back to try something different. We came here for dinner, hoping to have some sushi. We can’t stay away from a new sushi restaurant! Well… then we looked at the sushi prices. The special rolls ranged from $ 12 to $ 20, with an average price of more than $ 15. Are you kidding me?! With the exception of Kappo, this might be the most expensive sushi in the greater Orlando area. So I scrolled through the Unilocal photos. The rolls looked pretty small. Then some sushi arrived at the table next to us. Confirmed, rolls are small. Disappointed, we changed tack. We ordered the«Hawaiian Aji Tune Poke»($ 13) as an appetizer. Fresh ahi tuna with avocado, topped with sesame seeds and roe, on a bed of spinach and seaweed salad. It was delicious. If you’re an ahi tuna fan, this is a must. On its own, it’s a 5-star dish to me. I then ordered the Nabeyaki Udon($ 17), which is a pretty massive bowl of soup filled with udon noodles(obviously), squid, chicken, sliced fish cake, shiitake and enochi mushrooms, fish balls and whole hard boiled quail eggs. It came with three large tempura shrimp on the side. My only complaint about the soup itself was that the broth could have used something to liven it up; a little more flavor would have been nice. The other components of the dish would probably have benefitted greatly from that. I didn’t care too much for the tempura shrimp, in that they were so heavily battered that every bite left me with a greasy aftertaste. After partially dismantling the tempura on them, they were much more palatable. The meal also came with a standard small ginger salad, which was good. Our service was pretty top notch, and we never had to wait long for anything. I wouldn’t hesitate to come back to try something else, especially having seen the chirashi bowl on the menu(a weakness of mine). Hopefully I can bump up the rating after that experience!

I enjoyed date night with my boo here. We opted for an early dinner, 5:30pm, to avoid possible crowds on a Saturday night. Our server was Paul and he was very helpful with the menu. We went with his suggestion of splitting a hibachi dinner and a couple of sushi rolls. It did not disappoint! We ordered the shrimp and scallop hibachi. The amount of seafood and the meal portion was perfect. It wasn’t ridiculously huge but will make you full. If you’re looking for a Kobe style steakhouse with flare and lots of noise, DONOT come here. The only chefs preparing food in front of you are the sushi chefs behind the bar. It’s a very nice and cozy restaurant with a lot of style. I did notice that they accommodated a large party though they wouldn’t be able to have more than a few of them. We also ordered the Dream of Dream and the Volcano rolls. The amount of rice in the Dream of Dream roll was perfect: not too little and not too much. It was a krab salad roll with the raw fish on the outside. I enjoyed it and would order it again. The Volcano roll was surprisingly sweet. The drizzled honey was definitely unique. Even though my boo loved the sweetness, I will order it without honey next time. My only complaint is that the specialty sushi rolls are priced on the high end($ 13 and up). I am curious enough to try all the rolls in order to determine if they’re priced accordingly. On the other hand, their lunch menu looks really affordable. In all, this restaurant is worth trying. I will definitely come back to try more of the sushi. Here’s a tip for those of you reading this review in its entirety: it’s not obvious but their main entrance is facing the boarded up Segafredo.

Tried Yamasan for the first time today and was quite satisfied with my experience. My girlfriend and I both got lunch specials which were priced very reasonably with good portion sizes. I ordered the teriyaki chicken bento box and my girlfriend got 2 rolls, they both came with miso soup and a tasty ginger salad. The rolls came out real quick with my box following shortly behind both tasting very fresh. The service was good and the atmosphere is nice, could see it being even nicer after dark. Will be back to try again!

What’s the deal with Mills Park establishments? Thank goodness FIRSTWATCH, MARILYNMONROESPAS, FIREBIRDS and TAPROOM have their act together. First, let’s be clear that I was not a fan of an Asian concept going into Mills50, in the actual four corners of great Asian food. But a Japanese concept is worth the welcome. I’m glad the reviews in general are good — and it’s the reason that we wanted to try going tonight. WANTED, was the key word. For a Friday night, they were busy… and staffed, but did NOT know how to operate. From disheveled servers — to waiting 5 – 8 minutes for a greeting… and the greeting being, ‘are you looking for a table?’ [no pause] ‘It’s going to be… I dunno, 10 minutes.‘ Cut to — shots of 6 empty tables, that needed bussing. Cut to — a disheveled waitress randomly shouting ‘Miso is out soon! Misoooo!‘ Cut to — same waitress offering a fresh sushi boat to like two tables, with ‘wait, did you order?’ And hurriedly ‘fast walk/running’ around like a SNL skit. And there we stood… nothing. «We will be right with you!» Which gave us time to look at the menu and the prices for the location. $ 16 for signature rolls? What I need is a review of your operation. I need you to pull the car dealer flags off the side of the building, the blinking OPEN sign from COSTCO and focus on what you need to do. Finding me a table so I can eat at your restaurant. I WANT you to be successful… my neighborhood relies on it. But, gosh — that was rough. We will hope to try again… but please don’t become another Segafredo.

If you find yourself in the mood for sushi around lunchtime, Yamasan is a solid dining choice. First of all, the lunch prices are great! For $ 11.95 you can select two sushi rolls. They’re the more basic rolls(spicy tuna, salmon, etc.). But still, for that price, pretty dang good. And it comes with a bowl of soup and a small salad as starters. For less that $ 15 I filled my belly with good sushi and left feeling full and satisfied. Speaking of good sushi, Yamasan has some fresh sushi. As someone who is a sushi-lover, I’m pretty picky when it comes to the quality of my sushi roll. And this place has is down. This time around I only had the salmon roll and the spicy tuna roll, but I would love to go back and try their specialty rolls. I’m sure they’re great as well. Then there was the service. One of the marks of good lunch service is being able to deliver food quickly. People are usually on a schedule and need to get back to work(as was the case today). And the service here was fast! We only waited a few minutes before our soup and salad came out. And the sushi was out before we had even finished the soup and salad. Quality, delicious sushi lunch at a reasonable price in under and hour. I’ll be back.

I was really bummed after looking at the hibachi menu online to find out there are no hibachi tables here and it’s all cooked in the back and brought out to you. Everything is stuffed onto this platter(seen in my photo), which means you get a lot less of everything than you normally would sitting at a hibachi table with it being cooked in front of you. I had the filet and shrimp, which comes with clear soup, ginger salad, fried rice, noodles and vegetables. The filet was tender and cooked how I ordered it, but it was over seasoned with pepper, which I did not like very much. The shrimp was very good and so was the fried rice and noodles, but I was left wanting more. You get very small portions of everything, which is very disappointing considering the $ 27 price tag. The service was not great. It took a very long time for our soup to arrive, and then our main course came out to us before our ginger salad. I was never offered a refill of my water, and it was hard to get anyone’s attention when we needed something. I don’t think I will be going back here.

We brought the kids here for their first sushi and bento box experience. Service was great the chef came out and brought the kids special junior chopsticks. The place is new but the owner and staff seem to take pride in what they are doing. The food was perfect. The fish was very fresh and the bento boxes were quite unique. At first, We were concerned bringing a three year old and a one year old to a sushi place but our concerns were totally misplaced. The food was great for little ones and the staff were super welcoming. Will be back.

NEWFAVORITEJAPANESERESTAURANT! :) I came to Yamasan on their opening day, and had the pleasure of adding them as a business on Unilocal, and taking the first photos of the restaurant. DECOR The immediate feeling you get when you go into Yamasan is that you are in an upscale, classy restaurant, with their tall white couch-seats, and elegant outside seating and impeccable indoor décor. The sushi bar is especially gorgeous, with a large Japanese mountain installment in the back reminiscent of a woodblock painting. SERVICE I had the same waitress recently as I did on the first day, and she is friendly, attentive, and knowledgable of all the menu items. I always feel welcomed here. The owner of the restaurant has come to my table both times as well to ask how everything was, which is a great touch at any restaurant. FOOD My favorite thing on the menu(so far!) is the eggplant and tofu lunch hibachi. The taste and texture of the eggplant was marvelous, and the tofu was just right. I’m also a huge fan of their clear soup with mushrooms and green onions(not quite the same as Miso) — I’ve searched for it on other menus elsewhere to no avail.

First time I went was during lunch hour. I Was there for 1.5 hrs and never got my food. I had to cancel and ended up eating at Firebirds. My partner did get his food and his food was okay. Gave it a second chance. Food came out quickly this time, I think they recognized us, however, I didn’t feel their food was all that fresh tonight. We had blue fin toro, tuna carpaccio and salmon sashimi. Not going there a 3rd time. Owners just stand around instead of helping staff. Ladies be careful, because you might get stuck in the bathroom.

I know this is a new restaurant, but nothing really went well from my experience and I will probably not be back. I went for lunch on a Friday and it was not super busy. It took 49 minutes to get my food. I ordered a 3 sushi roll lunch special, in which they brought me only 2 of the rolls. The food was ok at best. The meat in the rolls(shrimp and eel) was such a small portion; it looked like they used the very top of the tail of the shrimp. My server was nice but kept touching my shoulder which made me feel very uncomfortable, especially because I was dining alone.
