Being generous here. Decent service and ok /average at best sushi. No real flavor and a below average atmosphere. If you’re in a hurry and don’t care about taste, this place is fine.

Small little hole in the wall place had very impressive Japanese dishes featuring real Japanese cuisine flavors and finesse. We had the Nama chirashi bowl, the gyudon, some of their rolls and nigiri. They even had uni and it was satisfyingly fresh! So happy to have found this little place with reasonable prices and true to the Japanese taste!

I’m going to start by saying thank you to the Unilocalers! Your reviews lead us here! My husband is Asian, he’s a little picky. I can’t have MSG’s.so I’m careful! This place was amazing! The servers uniforms were real Japanese kimonos, they were friendly, and they were not pushy! We ordered the Gyudon which was amazing! Tons of onions and the egg was cooked so perfectly it almost seemed like cheese at first! We also ordered the Kamikazi roll, the Sun Shine roll, and the Krab Salad rook. All of them were very tasty and presented very tastefully! We were offered dessert nicely but promised to come back for that on another day!

Best authentic Japanese restaurant in Orlando. Food is awesome and with reasonable price. We tried ramen, sushi and grilled octopus(ika), super good!

One of the best Japanese restaurants here in Orlando and need to come back to try everything to back my statement up! I’ve passed and gone to this plaza on the corner is Sand Lake and John Young many times and never would have thought this would be here. We came right before it got a little busy and was greeted by asking if we had reservations(guessing it gets busy regularly). Although we felt that the portions were a little smaller(that’s why the women look so good!) every bite was well worth it. We ordered the: +Tonkatsu Ramen Sooo much better than the other ramen place in town(not pointing fingers). The broth was very flavorful and the roasted pork was soft and delightful. It was very plain and had more of a homemade feel which made it more comforting. +Beef Don This was basically a rice bowl topped with thinly slice teriyaki beef topped with caramelized onions. Everything just melted in your mouth perfectly! I saw many sushi platters passing me and knew that was next on my list next time I come here. The servers were friendly and their kimono’s were super cute and cannot wait to try everything else.

Saw Hamachi Hama on the menu and thought, this is the best chance we have! When to you don’t just see roll after roll, I always hope that it will be pretty authentic. We came in and heard Japanese spoken and a Japanese sushi chef and had positive thoughts. Ordered — Tokatsu Ramen — Not bad for a place in orlando, though would definitely not be ok in LA Tempura Udon — Can’t really mess that up Uni Sushi — I was so interested so I had to get it. It was not bad, and they sell by the piece Conch Sushi — Good Soft Shell Crab — Not bad, but too small for the price Sweet Shrimp — THEYFRYTHEHEAD!!! Love. Hamachi Kama — Yay! Nicely grilled and tasty. All the items were good and I’m so glad we found it.

Friendly sushi chef and decent size sushi bar. Pricing is very reasonable and they don’t skim on their fish. Service is good. You know you are going to get the real deal when you are the only non-Asian patron in the tiny restaurant and all the staff seem like they are switching rails to speak English to you. It’s almost like you’re visiting a little corner of Japan, rather than an unassuming, hidden gem in a random Walmart plaza. The service is great. They really make you feel welcome and they are very attentive. With that said, make sure you always reserve, because we made that mistake the first time we went an hour after they opened and it was packed full, with groups waiting outside. It is a tiny establishment, with like 6 tables and a dozen seats on the sushi bar, and the environment is relaxed and almost like somebody else’s home, so nobody is feeling like rushing through their food to get out. On the contrary, time will pass and you won’t notice it. The food is great, and unlike any other Japanese food I’ve had. I’ve been wanting authentic ramen for ages, and that’s exactly what drew me in here. I also especially enjoy their Japanese pepper and chili pepper shakers. It’s always packed(is that really a con though) and the space is pretty small so make sure to get reservations to ensure you get a seat or if you were lucky like us.

If you take sushi seriously, this is the place to go! Yellowtail sushi was phenomenal some of the best I’ve ever had, toro was great, Tomi roll is awesome. Don’t be fooled by the somewhat suspect location, the place was very clean and all the fish was super fresh and presented very beautifully. $ For amazing sushi the was surprisingly low.$ If I ever go back to Orlando it will be my first place I stop!

Sushi Tomi has been my go to spot for sushi & a place very close to what I remember in Okinawa… it’s not overly Americanized with fancy fake oriental decos often seen at commercial sushi spots, just the right amount to complete a overseas feel that I can connect to. NOWTHEMOSTIMPORTANT… the sushi, their quality has been above supreme cut & taste. The menu is plentiful & drinks equals. MUSTGO!!! Love it here!!!

I wish I’ve discovered this place earlier but I supposed it is better late than never. Heard it from a friend and just had to check it out. This restaurant has authentic Japanese food and it is owned by Japanese people. Their menu has a variety of selections, besides sushi they also have cooked food. My bf and I came in for lunch and had the chirashi bowl and we were surprised for its price and quality. Price was reasonable and fish quality I could not complain, it was superb. It is more of a casual atmosphere restaurant, friendly staffs also friendly sushi chefs too, and food came out fairly quick. Do not expect anything fancy, just expect great food! Highly recommend if you’re a sushi enthusiast.

Found a new favorite Authentic Japanese restaurant that serves delicious Japanese cuisine! Read reviews of this place through Unilocal and the pictures of the Tamago Nigiri SOLDME! The restaurant is located in the shopping plaza nearby Golden Lotus on Sand lake /John Young pkwy — Right nearby 7eleven gas station. The restaurant is small but comfortable. Bathroom is clean and the soap dispenser is actually soap not watered soap(pet peeve). The staff here wear genuine japanese kimonos and japanese slippers. And they AREJAPANESE! I can detect who are Chinese, Koreans, Japanese because I have been around them through years growing up. The menu they give you is about 3 pcs — Sushi Bar menu, Main Menu and Alcohol Menu. I targeted the sushi bar with 5ORDERSOFEGGNIGIRI aka TAMAGONIGIRI.(see pics) — then looking through the main menu The prices are slight cheaper than Hanamizuki(My other favorite authentic japanese restaurant in I-drive) — stopped going there because the prices went up and they stopped serving $ 12 lunch bento trays(sad face). The menu has array selection of udon soups, ramen soup, japanese curry and rice bowls. Also appetizers and dinner combo that is a combination of sushi/sashimi pieces with either tempura or teriyaki servings. The water here is cold and tastes clean which is a plus for me as a diner. Lets talk about service; they are nice and excellent with water service and picking up dirty plates afterwards of eating. The only complaint I had was when the 5 pcs of tamago was placed one of the staff made a surprise reaction within their language. Kind of rude to react to a diner’s order imo. Also you feel as a diner you are being watched as you eat because this place is small. The place got kinda busy but not crowded so when I was almost done with my meal my water glass was empty and it took them a few to refill my glass. Other than that service was not bad. The food; ORDERTHEEGGNIGIRI aka Tamago Nigiri! The tamago is authentic it tastes sweet and savory egg rolled omelet. It is THEBESTBYFAR imo. You can tell they make theirs in the house not the ones you can tell is freezer bought or lack of authenticity when they make Tamago. The layers of this rolled omelet looks amazing and the taste is SUPERB! I can eat 20pcs!!! That is one of the items I will surely come back and order more of – maybe 20 pieces? Lol The Agedashi Tofu is good as well the batter was not as crispy as what I had before but the pieces is worth it for the price! The broth is good a tad bit salty to my liking but it was good! I would order this again because the price and the pieces are reasonable! The Nabeyaki Udon was delicious however I think Hanamizuki’s version had more Toppings in their soup than Sushi Tomi’s version. The soup however was delicious served in a covered clay pot — the server uncovers the claypot in front of you as you see steam coming out when it is uncovered. The soggy tempura pieces turned me off a bit — Next time I will request Tempura pieces on the side. The tempura pieces is suppose to be served in the soup but the soggy batter is not delightful to see imo. The toppings in this included Tempura shrimp, Tempura white fish, Chicken chunks, sliced fish cakes — I didnt see any vegetables which I was expecting. I will def come back and try the ramen soup and of course their famous EGGNIGIRI! Just thinking about that Nigiri makes my mouth water! Love love love that tamago! I just wished they made Bento Lunches(similar to Hanamizuki) for a fair price. Love eating in a tray with small dishes of a variety of foods. Its truly a japanese experience when you eat this way imo.

The term«authentic» is often overused. None of us knows what authentic Japanese food is unless(1) you are Japanese,(2) you’ve lived in Japan, or(3) you have a Japanese friend and have eaten at his place. I don’t know if Sushi Tomi is «authentic,» however, I do know the chef and servers are Japanese(I asked & heard Japanese spoken in the kitchen). Yes, Sushi Tomi is truly a rare breed where a Japanese person runs the restaurant. By the way, **NEWSFLASH** Most Japanese restaurants in the US are NOT run by Japanese people. While a Japanese chef doesn’t automatically mean good food, but I would rather have a BMW made in Germany than a BMW made in Bangladesh. —– Positives —– (1) Ramen: These are often overlooked due to massive popularity of sushi; for this reason it’s hard to come across a restaurant that makes quality ramen. I honestly did not expect much from ramen since Sushi Tomi isn’t a ramen specialty shop, however the broth was rich and savory and the noodles were cooked to perfect consistency. (2) Rice Bowl: I was also impressed with their rice bowls. I ordered Pork Katsudon which is fried pork, onion & eggs cooked in sweet broth and served on a bed of white rice. Pork cutlet was thick and juicy, while onion and eggs soaked in broth provided much flavor. I don’t say this often but the rice(yes, just regular white rice) was phenomenal as if it was cooked minutes before being served. (3) Service: Outstanding! Servers were very friendly, charming, energetic, and attentive. —– Not So Positives —– Frankly, I can’t think of anything besides the size of the restaurant. Sushi Tomi is a small restaurant with 7 – 8 tables. I was here on a Saturday night and there were 2 – 3 parties waiting at least 15 minutes. I don’t think they take reservations but I would call ahead.

I’m glad I stumbled on this place on my recent visit to Orlando. The location is in an empty shopping plaza and doesn’t look like much, but this restaurant is a gem. I went on a Saturday night and they were packed! Thankfully they had one open table for the two of us. The waitresses were very friendly but lacked attentiveness as they were super busy. I ordered the Sashimi Appetizer and Tonkotsu Ramen. The fish was fresh and the appetizer was a good size. I enjoyed my ramen immensely; it wasn’t overly salty and the broth was light. I wish I lived closer so that I could dine here regularly.

One of our(me and wifey’s) best kept secrets. It’s our 14th time here in 3 months, I’m gonna start Unilocaling every sushi expedition here from now on because I don’t wanna be selfish anymore. Such good eats, authentic Japanese food if you’re into the real deal. Service is great and they’re always busy! My pics should and will speak a beeeeellion words! UPDATE: January 7, 2016 Can’t get enough of this place. We haven’t been here for three weeks since the holidays kept us running around like crazy. The staff is very attentive, and at this point they already know us by name. Ordered the usual stuff I get, the deluxe sashimi dinner and my wife got the pork katsudon. Man, how I miss this place! The fish is always excellent, extremely fresh, I’ve never had a bad slice of fish from here. My wife’s katsudon was perfectly cooked, and the rice was just right. Seriously, if you like being promiscuous with your Japanese food, the sushi here is sex on a plate.

We have been here twice since our visit to Orlando. Pros: fresh sushi, sashimi, udon and rolls. Additionally, they have a variety of traditional Japanese dishes, chicken/pork Katsu with gravy, ramen soups, teriyaki, and tempura dishes. Friendly sushi chef and decent size sushi bar. Pricing is very reasonable and they don’t skim on their fish. Service is good. I also especially enjoy their Japanese pepper and chili pepper shakers. Cons: it’s always packed(is that really a con though) and the space is pretty small so make sure to get reservations to ensure you get a seat or if you were lucky like us, we got the sushi bar both times. Not a good place for a party unless you have a group of 10.

Pluses: Plenty of parking in the lot especially at night. The sushi rolls were very good. Got to try a few different ones and they were all solid. Also got the hamachi kama and that was done well. Minuses: Ordered a bento box for myself. The teriyaki chicken was not fully covered in sauce, and I ate a piece that had no sauce and it lacked any flavour. Service. There were only 2 waitresses for the whole place. The place isn’t big, but service was greatly lacking. Our waitress was very apologetic and getting pulled in every direction, but yeah… she needed help!

This is the most authentic Japanese restaurant I’ve ever gone to, and I don’t know what the authentic Japanese cuisine really might be, but that’s just the thought that keeps popping up when I think of Sushi Tomi, that and: «Hmmm…yum!». Like others have said, you know you are going to get the real deal when you are the only non-Asian patron in the tiny restaurant and all the staff seem like they are switching rails to speak English to you. It’s almost like you’re visiting a little corner of Japan, rather than an unassuming, hidden gem in a random Walmart plaza. The service is fantastic. It is a tiny establishment, with like 6 tables and a dozen seats on the sushi bar, and the environment is relaxed and almost like somebody else’s home, so nobody is feeling like rushing through their food to get out. On the contrary, time will pass and you won’t notice it. The food is great, and unlike any other Japanese food I’ve had, even the good ones from Sushi Katana and Izziban Sushi. I’ve been wanting authentic ramen for ages, and that’s exactly what drew me in here. My girlfriend and I have gone four times here, so we’ve sampled quite a bit. Here’s the rundown of what we’ve had: GYOZAAPPETIZER — very good but they only give you like five or six tiny gyoza. I guess that equal two big gyoza from other places. It just looks a bit pathetic when they bring it out, still, my girlfriend loves them. UDON — great! even if you don’t like fishy things, the broth is outstandingly tasty! Best freakin’ Japanese broth I’ve ever had! RAMEN — disappointing, compared to the udon. Stick to thick noodly goodness! GYUDONRICEBOWL — Fantastic! They might go a bit crazy with the ginger at times, but even then, it is very, very tasty! PORKKATSUDONBOWL — good enough, but the sweet profile of the pork cutlets is weird, if you were not expecting it. I was tired of it by the end of the bowl. DRAGONROLLSUSHI — the one with avocados on top. Very refreshing and tasty. LADYFINGERSSUSHI — just okay. This one didn’t rise to the expectations I had for it. FRIEDICECREAM — Great! Even though, we have not found everything to be amazing, if we were to stick to the udon and gyudon rice bowl, we’d be in Japanese cuisine heaven every time. I am adventurous enough to try new things here and there, but it’s good to fall back to the favorites, and I do that often. This is our favorite Japanese restaurant in Orlando right now, because it does feel like we’re stepping into foreign soil and sampling their foods, every single time we go, even when they recognize us as regulars now and it kinda feels like a friend’s house at dinnertime.
