Smokey J’s Pit BBQ

Was craving BBQ pulled pork and gave this place a go — it was very good. Brisket was so so. They had an extensive menu (French bistro) however I focused on the BBQ and was not disappointed.

This place was rather fancy on the inside but I’m assuming it’s the old Asian furniture from the restaraunt located there previously.
Not too busy, only maybe 3 other people there. Service was very friendly however it took forever for food to come out. BBQ was okay not what I was expecting for the price. Fried okra was good though.
Overall this place was too much money for what you get. Also what killed it for me was the slow slow service when it came for the food. I think we waited for more than 30 minutes for something so simple. And it wasn’t even busy.

11 of us went there, so we had a chance to sample practically EVERYTHING. Only thing we didn’t try were the liver and catfish.
Here’s the low down:
Drinks:
–Sweet tea (little too sweet, but good flavor)
–Lemonade (tastes a little too much fruit acid – your typical minutemaid)
–Ribs: Flavorful
–Chicken: Not enough flavor
–Pulled pork: tender
–beans: good
–Coleslaw: Decent
–Corn Bread: Too dry and not sweet enough.
–French fries: decent
–Fried Okra: Not bad (but tastes like it’s from frozen veggies and not fresh)
–Potatoe Salad: good
Areas of improvement:
Most dishes taste the same, not a wide variety. Just the same sauce on different meat and no variations in sauces other than hot sauce. Service was a bit aloof at first, but she warmed up to us and eventually was nicer. That was fine. Inside décor was cute.
Cost: About $ 220 for the 11 of us. We had 6 boxes to take home so that was too much food. Price was probably a little higher than we would like.
Tip: On the menu they had a set course for 4 ($ 68.99 or something) – really, 8 of us could have shared it. Portions were HUGE.
Would we go back again? Probably not immediately, but we are not going to rule it out either. It was nice that we got a piece of pie at the end for the birthday girl. :)
