Westbrook’s Bar B Que & Seafood

I was in the neighborhood and decided to give this place a try.
Mr. Odell Westbrook, the owner, was there and greeted me. He guided me through the menu and made some suggestions based on what I liked. I ordered a tri-​tip dinner entrée which came with two side dishes and a corn muffin or wheat bread (of course I chose the corn muffin).
The meat was very tender and had a flavorful bbq sauce which Mr. Westbrook makes himself. I didn’t ask if they had different sauces, I think I would’ve liked it more if it had a little kick of spice in the sauce if they had it.
For sides I chose potato salad and mac-​and-​cheese. Both were homemade and tasty.
Mr. Westbrook and I chatted a little bit, and he mentioned he is a minister at a nearby church. I like supporting businesses that are community-​minded and that definitely applies to him. They have seafood dishes in addition to BBQ, I’m willing to go again and try their ribs or shrimp.

If only this review were about the food, but unfortunately I never got to try it.
I placed a future order on Eat24 a day in advance because we have a group of teachers with a tradition of getting delivery every Friday. As teachers, we do not have the option of ordering right before we want the food because we’re all in our classrooms. The guy confused the day and ended up on our doorstep that same day (but still 40 minutes after what would have been the scheduled time). I explained to him that we had placed a future order for the next day and even showed him the confirmation on my phone when he did not believe me. His exact words to me were, «Who does that?!» When I explained to him that WE do, he had the nerve to get angry at me. I tried to do the right thing by asking my colleagues if they would accept the food anyway, but they all had already eaten that day. Before the guy left, I told him that we still wanted the delivery for Friday, but without telling me, he cancels the order and refunds me the money that night.
That Friday, the food never came. When we called to ask about it, we got hung up on. When we called again, we were told that if we wanted the food, we’d have to order it again — even though the original order was for that Friday anyway. Needless to say, we had a lot of very hungry and disappointed teachers that day.

I ordered online today through eat24 and I ordered the ribs tri tip and chicken with Mac and cheese fries and corn bread with rice and gravy. Our food came when it said it was going to come and the gentleman was very nice. Usually when you order through online sites they usually take an hour anyways so I prepared myself for the wait so take notes people it’s not going to take 30 minutes every time. I will say I have 4 stars because the only problem I had was the chicken there wasn’t much meat on it and the Mac and cheese was a little oily but it had an ok flavor to it. My foot was perfect eating temperature not to hot and not to cold which is fine for me. The ribs were good I like the sauce you can tell it’s home made. The tri tip was perfect yummy and soft with a smoky flavor. The rice with gravy was different which is why I ordered it I never tried rice with gravy before but it was good. So all in all I liked the food and I will order from here again.

Just ordered online from GrubHut and the food is inedible! I tried to call the store but no answer. With tip spent $ 50.00.Ordered chicken and tri-​tip, didnt recognize piece of chicken and tri-​tip is OLD and dry with sauce trying to smother how old it is. fries are soggy, baked beans are black!, mac and cheese is cold and clumped with pieces of cheese. The beef link is cut in pieces and also smothered with watery sauce and grease. And ordered peach cobbler to meet the $ 35.00 min order and it looks disgusting and has a gnat in it. As you can see I rarely complain but these ppl are going to make someone ill. Gordon Ramsey where are you? Will post photos. Now to try and figure out dinner… ps Im calling health dept. tomorrow

I’m giving stars because the food I have gotten ONCE was pretty good. That being said — these people are a joke when it comes to delivery orders. My 1^st order was a solid 30 minutes late, and part of it was wrong.
I just tried ordering again via Seamless, and the order is now going on an hour and fifteen minutes late, the restaurant isn’t picking up the phone, and Seamless can only offer to cancel the order since the restaurant won’t respond.
Bottom line is — if you’re going to bother trying this place out, don’t order online.
I don’t even know why places like this bother with saying that take online or delivery orders when they can’t make a delivery on time or at all, or even have enough staff to pick up the phone. Pretty pathetic.

Down home soul BBQ. About the best in the East Bay.

My boyfriend and I are from Kentucky and we’ve been trying to find decent BBQ in this area for a while now. We ordered dinner from here tonight and it was inedible. I wanted to skip cooking dinner but it looks like I’ll be doing it anyway — even after waiting an hour for it to arrive and spending $ 45 on a dinner.
We got the ribs, tri tip, mac & cheese, fries, a pulled pork sandwich, corn muffins and collard greens.
The ribs and tri tip were dry inside, and swimming in a watery, beefy sauce. That sauce also covered our fries, so they were falling apart by the time it arrived.
The mac & cheese was cooked to death and had clumps of cheese instead of a cheese sauce. The collard greens were also overcooked and didn’t have much flavor.
The pulled pork sandwich was coated in a really sweet BBQ sauce and the bread was completely wet. The corn muffins were the toughest and driest I’ve ever tasted — they just crumbled apart when touched.
I don’t think anything we ordered was actually made today — the textures and tastes were all wrong!
It might be totally different if you eat in, but I can’t recommend ordering from here. We definitely won’t be eating here again.

I flew in on a hot day with bad traffic jams, so I decided to stay in Oakland for an hour or two before driving home. Unilocal showed me this interesting place, so I drove a few blocks from 880 and gave it a try.
The Tennessee pulled pork with medium BBQ sauce was really delicious, and the collard greens were seasoned just right. I had a fine conversation with the owner. Get off the freeway and come in here for some real food! I am taking some home today and coming back soon with my whole family.

Do NOT order from here online. I ordered through Eat 24, and then waited 2 hours for delivery, without any notification. When I called to say I wanted to cancel my order because it had been too long, the person that answered the phone was rude and unhelpful. I will not order from this place again.

I was a little leery of ordering the food online because it’s usually not the kind of food that holds up well after it’s cooked, packaged then delivered but Westbrook’s was awesome. I ordered the shrimp with catfish platter and got 2 sides. The food came within 45 minutes of ordering and was still very hot. The seasonings on the seafood were great and the portion size was good definitely not skimpy. The prawns are absolutely delicious!

BBQ ribs were great and the side dishes were good too, and plenty of everything in my takeout. The restaurant looked nice enough inside and especially clean. While I waited a man and his young child came in and another customer. They seemed to be regulars. It has a family feel.

My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE this place. Their prawn dinner is the best I’ve ever had. Well seasoned and cooked as soon as you order it. I got the fried tilapia but it was nothing compared to those prawns. Everything is so flavorful and the cooks are hella nice. Definitely coming back!

Westbook’s looks spiffy for this area. menu touts their tennesse roots. specialty is seafood and soul food.

You gotta try their greens! Everything taste fresh, hot and ready! Don’t sleep on this place. They just opened not to long ago. Go check them out! Odale is the owner. He’s very nice and gives u great service
