My boyfriend and I brought his parents here for some serious soul food. At first I was kinda mortified. His parents usually take us to some pretty fancy places so when we walked in and saw the one booth,(on wheels) aqua painted walls, and… well, I could go on but there isn’t much point in that. This place is strictly a take out joint but we decided to stay and eat here anyway. Genny herself took our orders and served us. She came out a few times to check up on us while we were eating to see how we were doing and to chat. She was super sweet and super respectful of my BF’s parents even though she was pretty up there in age herself. She even gave us a discounted senior rate for them. The guy working the fire pit(think it might have been her son but not sure) came out to say hello too). Real friendly place! Now for the food… The bbq sauce was really good. The brisket was delicious. The ribs were extremely large, moist, tender and meaty. The yams and cornbread were yummy. The collards were very good although I woulda liked to see a little more meat in them. Mac n cheese had the right flavor but were a lil loose in consistently for my liking.(Sorry, don’t mean to be mean– I was just raised on the Deep South, hard packed style so that’s what I prefer). Other than that, everything was fabulous and I would definitely recommend Genny to cater your next event. But here’s a tip… if you’re having 30 people, tell her you’re having 15! She makes a hellava lot a food, which btw is a great value for the price! ;-)

Most of the food was delicious. I tried all the meats they had to offer except the links and they were all awesome. The mac & cheese as a side was also a highlight. I suggest getting your sauce on the side. The owner was very hospitable. Be sure to ask about things that may not be on the menu. When my wife and I were ordering we discovered they had banana pudding and few other items. The only downside was that business front was in a state of disarray and I would not consider eating there, but I will definitely be ordering more take out from there. I was told tonight that they deliver…

I usually give this place 5 stars. However I ordered food through the eat 24 app during regular business hours(12 – 8 on a Wednesday), only to find the business was closed. The«open» sign was showing, so it wasn’t until I noticed all the lights were off and the doors were locked that they were closed. I love the food here but it’d be great if you could leave a note, have some voicemail info. or atleast have your office hours reflected correctly so we won’t think your business is open when it’s not. Thanks

This place might be good if they change some stuff. How do you not pull the membrane off ribs? And then say they’re baby back when they’re spare? The lemon pepper chicken is dry as hell, and the brisket is dry as the desert. I don’t get how it’s rated this high

Came back a week later for the ribs. Even though it was dinnertime, they let me buy the ribs lunch. What a plate!!! took it home to eat, but had a nice chat with the staff… Genny is right to be proud of her product, and the ribs were really delicious. First, the plate was overflowing with beautifully smoked ribs, inlcuding the tips, which I love. The meet was properly firm, which means it wasn’t boiled or cooked and reheated. I don’t actually like«falling off the bone» ribs, but I do like to be able to chew the meat off the bones. They were small sized ribs, but the portion was way generous. Did I say smoky? The sauce was rich mahogany colored, not too sweet, not too tomatoey, not too salty. Just right. Reminded me of the original Flint’s style. I should have ordered the sauce on the side, since it spilled over the side of the plastic take out when I took it to the car. The potato salad was also very good, but amazingly, it was a huge scoop! Not a regular scoop, but huge! The style was perfectly satisfying, and tasted good with a dab of sauce with each bite. Next week, I have to try the oxtail, or the short ribs!!!

I found it! This is possibly the best BBQ in the San Francisco Bay Area. That’s right, I said it. The best. Totally worth the 30 minute drive from San Francisco. We came on an early Saturday morning around 11:50AM and were the only people here. I might’ve been concerned but everyone in the back was working hard so they must have known something I didn’t. Unsure of what to order we stood at the counter reading over in detail what glorious options were available. After no more than two short minutes a crowd started to form so we took a booth to decide while the people continued to flow in. We finally decided that I’d have the brisket and she’d get the ribs. We both got corn bread and greens but I went with red beans and rice where she had Mac n Cheese. My brisket couldn’t have been any better. It was perfect. The meat was tender and juicy with just enough fat and oil. The BBQ sauce was ridiculous!!!(It’s now 3 hours later and I’m still full but my mouth is watering thinking of that magical sauce.) Her ribs had that deep smoked flavor. You know the kind. This is the flavor that snaps your neck back and makes you set down your ribs, wipe off your hands and mouth while you start to day dream about that good ‘ol country picnic you’d have as a child. I loved the collared greens. There was nothing extra added. Cooked simply sometimes is the best. I wish I could have these everyday. There was, of course, a little a little pork for flavor. The Mac n Cheese was simple, tasty and good. The corn bread is just crunchy the way it should be. Friendly is an understatement. The woman who helped us was one of those charismatic personalities who radiates happiness. You will see us here often.

Lord have mercy! The best BBQ that I’ve ever had. The brisket was just right and the bbq sauce had a sweet, spicy taste. My taste buds were having a party. Genny is so sweet and the rest of the staff were also nice. Genny welcomes you with a smile and has you feeling right at home. This is the BESTBBQ place ever. The only downside is the street parking, but it’s so worth walking a distance to this place. I found BBQHEAVEN!!! Definitely will be back for more. P. S. their homemade banana pudding is so delish :)

SSSooooo me and me man ventured out to this BBQ joint out in the«O» this past weekend. Ribs were fine, but the damn lemon pepper chicken was gross. Some people can tell when things were fried in old grease and this chicken was. Then the mac & cheese. OMG I don’t know what cheese they are using but that was the most nastiest mac & cheese I’ve ever tasted in my LIFE… 2 of us eating here over $ 60. I asked for Bake Beans but got red beans and rice. The portions were okay but needless to say — we ain’t comin back no time soon. Next…

Just so happened to run into her daughter and she gave me a flyer. Sweet girl. Anyhow, I can’t believe how I have driven by the restaurant so many times and never went in to try it out. I am seriously AMAZED at how good the food is! I feel like good BBQ/Soulfood restaurants are lacking in the Bay Area today, and baaayyybbbeeeee Genny’s brought me back! They serve huge portions! I couldn’t finish all of my food. I loved how everything was fresh, tender, and hot! You could definitely taste that they DON’T leave your food under lamps. I mean… I watched Genny cut my cake! Good God! I’m in love… and found my new BBQ spot!

The BBQ was okay but wow Genny was in such a bad mood we would never want to come back! We stood in line to order, one person ahead of us, two behind us, and Genny comes up to counter yelling, tell people to get out, we are closing, CLOSE the door, I’m NOT cooking anymore, blah blah blah This was at 12:30 pm on a Sunday. I don’t know what that was all about because they still took our order and didn’t close the place down. The entire time we waited for our food, she was yelling at all the help. Then the person calling out that your order is ready, yelled at people if they came to counter too soon, told them to SITDOWN, snapped at them when they tried to help bagging food, etc. We couldn’t wait to get out of there! It’s in a sketchy neighborhood but no one bothers you. Here we were so worried about the walk to the restaurant that we didn’t realize all the bad vibes are inside the restaurant! Parking was tough, we had to circle a few times to get a spot. We had the ribs and brisket, the Mac and cheese, the red beans, candied yams and sweet potato pie. All pretty good but we still love our Texas BBQ more so and this was not worth the hassle. We came here after hiking 8 miles at Redwood Regional Park.

One of best barbecue places in the Bay Area, and there isn’t much. They use high quality products, and if I’m not mistaken, it must be Niman ranch meat. The meat whether it’s beef brisket, pork ribs, links or chicken — is perfectly done with just the right amount of smoke from oak and applewood logs that enhances the flavor without dominating. It’s all balanced by mild sauce that finishes with a hit of peppery heat. The side dishes complement the entrees and the serving portions are quite generous.

Omg just what I was craving! Thank you fellow Unilocalers for you on point comments. This has me flashing back to the old days of Flints. Love the combo plate, every morsel is scrumptious. The kickin side dishes are out of this world too(make mine potato salad and sweet potatoes please). Yummmm

So I actually wanted Chinese food but saw it was closed and seen Genny’s was open. I never been and decide to give it a try. When I got there I was greeted from a women from the back… Customer Service–(5)Since I work in customer service I was hoping to get good service because I will leave and not spend my $$. I was very pleased with the women that helped me. She was friendly and engaged Both me and my baby., Food–(4)I order the fish plate instead of lemon pepper chicken. I was pleased with the(5)fish it had a homemade feeling which I loved… My sides were greens which I would rate a(4.5)I’m very picky with those since that’s my favorite food but it was still good.(4)The red beans and rice were good just not enough gravy… I think overall I like how the person taking my order was very efficient and determine to give good customer service. That’s what I liked most and why I rated it a 5.

I just left this place and the food was so good I had to write a review. First off I won’t be going back to Everett and Jones for quite some time. This place reminds me in a way of the Golden Age of Flint’s because of the proportions which is now long gone. I ordered a 3-way combo. I got the ribs, links and the chicken. The ribs tender, succulent and flavorful. The links were the juiciest I ever had. And the chicken was outstanding. Everything was seasoned to perfection. For the sides I ordered the macaroni and cheese and yams. The macaroni and cheese was sooooo good. The yams were also pretty good. Cooked till’ soft but not mushy. Not overly sweet but oh so buttery! I came here looking for her catering services for my company picnic. I read all the reviews and since me and a friend were hungry we decided to come here rather than E&J not too far from me. I’m telling everyone about this place. It’s hard to find real Bar-B-|que in the Bay Area and I’ve found my new spot. I highly recommend this place.

Not far from the Oakland Coliseum you could find yourself at one of the best BBQ establishments around. Service: The staff is helpful with recommendations and make you feel right at home. You could tell that they take pride in what they do and that is food! Ambience: Unique! You do have a dolly of wood to the side with a bench where those take out orders, but the place is clean. I’d say the décor compliments the food well. Food: Ribs were not fall of the bone, but they were tender and flavorful. The links are home made and have a thick casing which was okay cause they were served sliced up. The Brisket! The best brisket I have had in a very long time. Very Juicy, tender, and full of that smokey flavor. Portions and Prices: Very generous. A lot of food at a reasonable price. Enough for to last a day or two or feed a small family. Just the way i like it. I definitely would come back and try other items off the menu that I didn’t have room for this time around.

Been craving bbq for a week so was going to drive to Pacifica to get some. So glad i busted out my handy dandy Unilocal app and found Gennys! I was not disappointed. Parking is only available on the street. Gennys is right on a corner lot so you can miss it. We were the first customers of the day as they were opening the doors. You walk up to the counter and there is a one page menu. Order what you want and have a seat and itll be brought to you if your eating in. As we sat down more patrons came and it was getting busy. You can order to go or eat in. We order the 3 way combo where you pick 3 meats and 2 sides. We ordered ribs, brisket, and links with sauce on the side. Sides we got baked beans and their must try mac and cheese. It also came with one cornbread muffin so we ordered an extra one. Two cans of soda for washing it down and a slice of homemade 7up cake togo! Ribs: were moist and meaty but not fall off the bone but were still delish and had a smokey flavored. Brisket: sliced and chopped into bite size for you to endure. Each piece has a little fat and was tender, juicy, and smokey flavor too. Links: mild beefy and made there. Outside casing is tough but the inside was good. Cornbread: firm and dry but not too sweet. Outside had a crisp to it but still good. Baked beans: perfect amount of sweetness and flavor. Beans were cooked just right! And for the finale! A must try is their mac and cheese! Creamy and cheesy and gooey and omg taste like heaven! Hands down best mac and cheese i ever had. I cant explain it you just gotta try it! 7up cake: thick and dense not cheap and airy like other places that make 7up cake. Perfect amount of sweetness and love into it. Must try also! Place has only been open for 2 hours and half the cake was already gone. They only made one for the day today! So we go the bbq sauce on the side since i really wanted to be able to taste the meats. Then dip it in the signature sauce. I honestly have never had a sauce like Gennys. Its not thick but more like an aujus. The sauce is different but tasty and flavorful. The moment you dip your meat into it and smack it in your mouth its euphoric. Food is my drug and you will be in a trance. A lot of people are afraid of going to Oakland but every city has a scary place. Everyone minds their business and goes on about life. Most places that serve amazing foods are hole in the walls or mom and pop shops. Yea this isnt a 5 star restaurant but the food and service is what takes the cake. Genny and her crew takes pride in what they do and you can taste it in the food. I rather support small businesses than big franchises anyday. Genny and everyone working here is super friendly and nice and makes it a better experience. Genny even asked me how was our food afterwards and i told her it was the best i ever had. Overall this place is really good and will make you wanna slap yo mama but dont really do it if it wasnt for her you wouldnt be here. I defin will be back to try the oxtails next! Now stop reading the reviews and go try it!

BBQ sauce is very tasty! I stopped by for lunch hen I was in the neighborhood. The actual restaurant felt roomy. The owner was present and actually sat down in a booth adjacent to me and began a conversation. I had yams(delicious). Greens(real good). Red beans(thumbs up). Most importantly it was not greasy. The greens and all sides area made without pork Worth a stop for good BBQ

I was craving BBQ so I pulled up my Unilocal mobile App and Gennys popped up. So I jumped into my Urban Whip White Beast and rolled to Genny’s BBQ. Genny’s is deep in the Hood. There’s only street parking. So I parked my Whip on the street and rolled in. I rolled in to the Front Counter and Started perusing the menu. I was greeted by Genny a nice lady and the proprietor. I asked what Menu items She recommended. She made some suggestions. I went with a 3-Way Combo — Links, Ribs and Beef Brisket. For my sides I picked Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens and Corn Bread. This came to a little under $ 30. I paid Cash. They take Credit Cards but there is a $.50 cent charge. I was given a Bottle of Water and I relaxed in a Comfortable Booth. While my Food was being Prepared. Ms Genny delivered my food to me in a Take out Container. When I opened the Container I was impressed. The Portions are quite nice and sizable. The Links are made in house and they were quite Tasty excellent flavor . The Beef Brisket is Sliced into Bite Size Pieces and is soaking in their Barbecue Sauce and is so Tender. Little Bites of Heaven. The Pork Ribs have a nice Smokey Taste and are very tender . The Meat Portions were so good that I had to take half the Ribs home because I was Full LOL. The Mac and Cheese were Creamy and Cheesy and Yummy . The Collard Greens were Firm and Flavorable very Earthy . The Corn Bread was Firm but Flakey and Tasty. There are 2 Giant Brick Smokers in the Kitchen that are very impressive. They have a Hand Truck full of the Wood they smoke with. Gennys has the True Legit Slap your Momma in the Mouth BBQ in Oakland . I personally think they have all the Other BBQ places in Oak Town Beat . Give them a try youll leave with a Full, Happy, Belly !!!

Went to Genny’s around 3:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. Found a parking space a few doors before Genny’s which is on the corner of Bancroft and Havenscourt. I noticed a couple of guys standing in front of the iron fence that I parked in front but didn’t pay them any attention. Walked into Genny’s and found a few menus sitting on the counter. While I was perusing it, an employee came from the back and greeted me, then chatted with another customer for a few minutes. The problem with places that serve BBQ and southern food is that I want to order everything. No difference here. I forced myself to keep it to three dinner plates and a dessert but I could have easily ordered two more dinner plates. Not to feed two people. just too much food. Smoke Pork Ribs — BBQ sauce on the side —(5) — tender, slightly fatty ribs and rib tips, smoky and delicious. sauce was good. forgot to ask what heat levels they had and what they gave me was sweet with a mild kick. Fried Chicken —(4) — ½ chicken; tasted cast iron skillet fried; great crust seasoning; we would have preferred all dark but what we got worked. we just dipped the white pieces in the bbq sauce to make it moister.(note: fried chicken was not on the menu but fried fish was so I asked and they had it.) Oxtails & Gravy over Rice(5) — meaty, fatty, super tender oxtails. next time I’ll ask for more gravy to drown my rice in. Red Beans & Rice(3) — was exactly that. red beans & rice. no more, no less. some gravy to tie them together would have made this side a 4 instead of a three. the beans were a tad salty but no overly so. Collard Greens —(4) — well cooked but needed more seasoning and more of a ham hock or salt pork taste. Blackeyed Peas —(3) — tender but salty. Potato Salad -(4) — smashed potato salad with lots of sweet pickle relish juice. Candied Yams(5) — perfection! Macaroni & Cheese -(4) –more than a 4 but not quite a 5. subtle cheesiness on an elbow macaroni with just enough bite. Corn Cakes —(5) — the only thing that could have possibly made these better was to have some soft honey butter ready to slather on. but really, these corn cakes were heavenly. Peach Cobbler —(4) — giving this the benefit of the doubt. we were so full from entrees, we couldn’t eat the cobbler. i had some cold the next night, the flavors were spot on. super sweet, peachy, nice sugar glazed crust. could see this being a 5 if we had eaten it while it was hot.
