This is the nuttiest most unusual little spot, and I love it.

So I called yesterday for an easy adult costume and of course they had a lot for me to choose from. Most impressive was that I asked her what time they closed(5PM. that day) and I told her it might be close since I am still in SF. She said don’t worry I will wait for you. Who does that?! Normally folks are kicking you out and she was inviting me in to help me. Great service and now my new favorite place to pick up kids birthday gifts and novelties. Thanks!

not the typical toy store i was looking for. might find this place interesting if you were an animé fanatic. i found plenty of toys and nick knacks that can also be found at a toy store in chinatown.

It’s stores like these that make me happy to live in the Laurel and within walking distance of a true little gem. I took an unexpected detour here today with my son on the way to Ace and we spent a solid 20 – 25 minutes just browsing around and walked out with a bag of goodies under 20 bucks. I’m assuming it was the owner behind the register today and she could not be more friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!

It’s a cool place and I wish it was here when I went to school. You could get quite lost in here. It’s a small place with a massive selection of toys.

One of my best friends was in town for her college reunion and was crazily making the rounds visiting friends and family. «Do you happen to live by a toy store? Because we have to drop by a birthday party and I’m not going to have to time to go to Target before dinner tonight,» she said, frantically, while in the car, above the voices of her three children under the age of 8, whom she claimed were also in desperate need of a bath. «Actually I do,» I said, thinking of the Komodo, the purple awning I’d walked by many times. I arranged to meet her there while scoping out anything that might be Star Wars-related for a child I’d never met. When she and the kids arrived they immediately went big-eyed and within 10 minutes we had 3 remote control Yoshi cars and something Hello Kitty in our hands. Happy kids! Thanks to Lease, the shop owner, who not only helped us find what we needed but hooked us up with batteries and offered to gift wrap, and lent me a flag to literally flag my friend down from MacArthur Blvd(it had been a few years since she was in Oakland… and navigating with kids, well, you know). In the end, Operation B-Day gift successfully done, we were able to run by my house and freshen the kids up in the time we saved not going to Target. Yeah! Plus, we got to check out this wonderful store. They’re stocked with Halloween costumes right now and lots of great toys for kids big and small. Not to mention, I am totally going back for the Hello Kitty gear.(Yes, for myself, okay?)

I can’t believe no one has posted a review for Komodo Toys yet! Its a gem in the Laurel District. Its been there since 1997 and has since really help instill a sense of community with all the families of the neighborhood. What I love about this place is that it holds events for the halloween, christmas(i think), and even the upcoming annual laurel world music festival! What I remember most is Halloween because I took my baby sister here. The kids all line up to get goodie bags and its a sort of treasure map with all the local businesses to get candy. At the end I think you get some sort of prize. Really really cool to see all the local kids come out dressed up walking with parents visiting all the businesses. I love laurel district!!!

Lisa has owned it store for– i dont’ know how long: ever sinee i was a child growing up in the Laurel. she employs kids that live in the immediate neighborhood and really makes an efforts to have as many community events for kids. the service is great and the pirces are cheap, with new and used toys!
