We went in and tried the catfish which was BOMB. The greens and cornbread were good but the dirty rice was lacking. Definitely worth the drive from San Francisco.

I would have said I’m a fan(gave them four stars) if they [still] had crinkle cut fries or the fries they do have were cooked properly. Aside from that, the service is great. The food is good — I especially enjoyed the oysters. We also had the catfish and chicken, which held up nicely through the next day’s oven reheat. The plaza they are in is gated, lighted and has one-way-in(on E.14th), one-way-out access. I will go back to try the other fish(and have more oysters).

The breading is the same for everything so the fried chicken was pretty similar to the catfish and the fried oysters. Don’t get too much food here because you can get kind of bored with the flavor but in small quantities, it is the tastiest fried fish I’ve found in the area at the best price.

This places gets really good reviews but I’d jus say it is ok. The fish seemed like it was decent quality, but the breading they use is very hard. It is to the point where you take a bite which tastes more of breading than fish, and you can see the hard casing around the fish. They give large portions for what you do order, and they do have many options besides fish so maybe those are better, but I wouldn’t come back just for the fish sadly.

The food was mediocre. I had the regular prawn combo w/French fries & a piece of cat fish. Everything was dry and over cooked. It all tasted like the food was fried in 3 week old oil. I probably will never go back again.

Im from Oakland, so i dont mind the less than pleasant neighborhood. Love the hoagies, catfish and chicken wings! Sides include: Dirty Rice, Mac n Cheese, French Fries, Collard Greens, Peach Cobbler which is a huge portion for $ 5. Its owned by muslims, so no PORK, and a truly nice family. Great addition to the East Oakland Lockwood area, it’s all ppl stop and get on Fridays and Saturdays in the town. I’ve been meaning to come down here for a while, husband took me today for the 1st time. One rude patron who i guess was hungry? But in a hurry, yellin at this other patron. I let that slide, but thats why its missing a star. For the atmosphere and potential annoying patrons. Besides that, it cant be missed. Overall great exp and i will be back. My hubby comes every friday or so. In the plaza with Little Ceasars and Beauty Supply. Happy Fish Friday!

Ive been wanting to come to this place for a while & it definitely exceeded expectations. This is one of the best southern food restaurants ive been to outside of new orleans! I had the red snapper, fried chicken, fried prawns with dirty rice all being delicious. –1 star for cleanliness & being in a crappy part of town

Hit this place up on the way to reno. It was delicious. Had chicken and red snapper with a side of dirty rice. It was made to perfection. I think I paid 9.80. It included a drink and two pieces of bread. I tried my friends shrimp and it was money. Kind of hoodie but food too good to be scared.

This place is in the hood but the food is fresh, hot and good. I went there this weekend and I got jumbo prawns, my daughter got fried oysters and my brother got the fried chicken. Everything was good and my large order of jumbo prawns was enough to feed 2 adults. Also, each meal comes with a drink.

Great costumer service. And the food is amazing! This is my one stop restaurant. I love the fries, their cod fish sandwiches, those are heavenly! And their chicken is great! But not perfect… Will be dreaming about their food tonight… unless I go and fulfill my needs?!

First time here since im getting my service from Nail me Baby. I wanted chicken and shrimp but since its not on the menu the owner gave me exception. 10 pcs of shrimp with 4 wings and soda for $ 11.99 not bad. I will give my star when I actually try the food. for now 3 stars for good service Update: good fries. not greasy. Shrimp is kind of spicy and deep fried perfectly. Chicken wings 4 pcs are huge. I didnt finished my food in one seating. which is a good thing cuz it makes my money worth

Holy Mother of crispy fried goodness!!! A coworker was ordering from Fish King. I decided to try it because — well I didn’t have to leave the office at twilight and this is a dicey neighborhood. Best. Move. Ever. I had a catfish plate — with dirty rice, bread and a soda. Heaven. The portion of fish was huge so I shared with yet another co-worker and we were both completely satisfied. The dirty rice was fine but not anything special. The fish though! Oh the fish. Catfish is one of those things that can go either way — either greasy, fishy, nasty or — like this — fragrant, moist, flavorful, delicate and perfect. The cornmeal breading is light and crispy but not hard. It was flavorful but not salty and it perfectly balanced the fish. I am a believer and in future will worship at the altar of the perfect nom nom nom.

I am not expecting most if not ALL of you to venture this deep into East Oakland(da hood, holla!), but I tell ya, what they do here, they do it right! This is a southern style fry house. Mainly take out(I dare you to eat in lol), behind the bullet proof glass order counter, these guys know how to fry. The chicken(I’ve only had the wings) are lightly breaded in seasoned flour and fried perfectly. Not super crunchy but definite texture. The whole wings are the larger variety so be prepared to go into carnivore mode. Hot sauce requisite in my book. Their fried fish options are crazy generous, from oysters to prawns to catfish to snapper. The fish has this cornmeal crust that is so masterfully constructed that I don’t think I’ve had one this good, even in upscale sit-down joints. It is crazy crunchy without it being brittle to point of crumbling under pressure. So every bite of tender fish has a contrasting bite of crust. And the oil they use is quite clean which is to be commended for a hole-in-the-wall joint like this. The snapper was just okay to me. Did not have that sweet sensation from super fresh fish, but was definitely not bad by any means. The catfish on the other hand was super tasty. Beautiful thick white meat paired super nice with their cornmeal breading. They even offered catfish in both fillet and steak form, now that’s serious catfish eating biznass. The fries even though crinkle cut(my least favorite style) was actually not bad. Did not taste artificial and once again was fried crisp in clean oil. Just wished I was able to douse it with vinegar n salt, not sure if it was available. The Dirty Rice was true with chunks of ground gizzard/liver meat through out. But it had this fake butter taste along with the converted rice so made it kinda fake to me. Just ok and edible but not good enough to repeat. This is one of my new hit ups if I need to bring something to an A’s tailgate. People always love it and let’s face it, fried food when done right is always a hit. I just call in my order ahead of time and pick it up quick. Even I(a vet and no stranger to sketchy hoods) am a little hesitant at extending my time in this corner of town and that’s sayin’ something. But I’ll be back, fasho!

I was craving for something fried so decided to try this place since I’ve had it booked marked for quite some time. I had my hubby go pick the food up since I read that it was located in a not so nice area. Well, we ordered a regular size fried prawns with fries and a 3 piece fried chicken with fries combo. They both came with a fountain drink which was nice. I believe the total came out to be around $ 18 or so? Really good price. The prawns were AMAZING!!! Fried to perfection and was huge! I am craving it while I am writing this review. Omg if there was one thing I would order from here it is the fried Prawns. Prawns not shrimp. Prawns! It also came with a cocktail dipping sauce that went along with it perfectly. The fried chicken was super juicy and crispy but the flavors weren’t really there. I don’t believe they seasoned it at all… but still enjoyable. Damn. I think I’m gonna go order me some more prawns for dinner tonight. :)
