This store has been my go to store for awhile. The last year though I’ve not been happy with them. While the aisles have gotten wider the selection of items less. The decision of expanding the Essential brand disappointing. Every item we have tried has been awful. Simple items like maple syrup have been replaced by this cheap version. The deli is a disaster. I’ve never watched that many lazy employees«work«at once. THREE visits on separate occasions I have stood there waiting for some one to help me and never acknowledged. Or the time I waited behind a woman who was getting fried chicken and at the other end of the counter another customer strolled up. Guess who got waited on first? Wasn’t me, clerk didn’t say a word, just walked down to the other end of the counter. I left without the chicken. The day that really ticked me off though was when I went to check out. It was a warm day and my face was flushed. The woman checking my items out starts asking me if I have rosacea and she used to work in a dermatologist office. And she wasn’t discreet in her comments. It was embarrassing, I was mad, none of her business and just plain rude. I’ve started visiting Schnucks and Dierbergs. Occasionally I may stop at Shop and Save on Hwy K but its for quick items only like milk.

I’d like to echo much of what«Tim B’s» review says. The $ 10 off of $ 50 now seems to happen on occasional Friday’s instead of Thursday’s; but I like that as I’d rather shop on Friday for the weekend. Rather than repeating much of what he’s said so well; I’m going to focus on their customer service. Now don’t get me wrong, I get good service at Schnuck’s and Dierberg’s; but this Shop-n-Save even exceeds that(don’t get me started on Wal-Mart’s customer service at the Lake Saint Louis location — it’s abysmal most of the time). Everybody at this location is beyond friendly and helpful. Extra special mention of the deli employees. I recently tried their Salt and Vinegar chicken wings by accident(we didn’t realize that’s what they were) and they are literally the best wings I’ve ever had. The best part is that I can go in there at say 9am on a Friday well before the hot food portion of the deli is ready and they are more than happy to make me wings anyway. Contrast this to the above mentioned Wal-Mart when it’s hard enough to get hot food during their posted hours… Currently they’re running a promotion where you get a stamp for every $ 10 spent and those stamps can be redeemed for various knives — kind of a throwback to things that happened decades ago. I believe this runs until January of 2014, but I’m not certain on that. Bottom line is that this is by far my favorite place to shop these days.

OK the holidays have come and gone which means a lot of grocery shopping. It got me to thinking about what grocery store really is the best. After several grocery shopping trips over the past few months, I have determined that this Shop N Save in Dardenne Prairie is indeed the best grocery store in the area. First, let me be clear; depending on what I am getting, what is on sale, and where else I am going, I grocery shop at 3 Shop N Saves, a Schnucks, a Dierbergs, as well as 2 Super Wal-Marts(plus some items at Target, but its not a full grocery store). Each of these stores has some positives, and I don’t really dislike any of them, but when it comes to the whole of the grocery shopping experience, this Shop N Save is the best. Let me explain. A) Product selection: I find that this store carries a greater variety of products and brands than any of the other stores mentioned. Case in point, I was in the area of the new Shop N Save on Hwy K, so I went in there. Its a fine store, but it did not carry a couple of ingredients I was needing. I asked the manager, and he explained that the Dardenne Prairie store is the biggest in the area and can offer some of the hard-to-find ingredients not found elsewhere. B) Produce: Quality fresh produce is important to me, and I find the produce selection here to be the most consistent in terms of quality and selection. C) Price: Yes, Wal-Mart may beat some of the prices, but they will sneak in higher prices where you don’t expect it(plus they fail in varieties, produce and meat). Shop N Save does have overall better prices than Schnucks and Dierbergs. Also, on some Thursdays they offer $ 10 off of a $ 50+ purchase. D) Meat: Ok, Schnucks does offer a slight advantage here, and perhaps I should give Shop N Save 4 stars because of this, but I’ll let it slide. Summary: No I won’t stop going to the competition, but my experiences and evaluation have caused me to conclude that the Dardenne Prairie Shop N Save is my default grocery store and its the best in the area.
