The Best Deal in Town. Free, Great views of Lady Liberty and Manhattan. We did a fast round trip and enjoyed the open water for roughly 1.5 hours. It is a nice break from walking all around the city. We planed it around activities in the financial district. We went to the 9⁄11 memorial for several hours then down to the ferry. Don’t miss it, fun, fun, fun!

Free! Great views! The only way to bother with the Statue of Liberty — why pay all that money to go see something that you can’t see because you’re right at it? We had lovely weather and went late afternoon, stopped off for a bite to eat on the SI side, and came back after nightfall — so got to see the view both ways. Beautiful. Reliable service. Really busy going across at rush hour, but empty when we came back from SI. Go try it, you’ve nothing to lose but an hour or two.

Keep in mind that we were utilizing the ferry for an «attraction» and not for transportation service… Something FREE in NYC! Who woulda thought??? Totally worth the time. We were a little disappointed that there was only inside seating but the real deal is that it is for function and not a tourist attraction so I get it. I was bummed that more of the windows were not open because it was boiling hot in there and there were a ton of people. The ferry goes right by the statue of liberty so if you are forgoing the actual tour and just want a glimpse of the lady close up then this is the way to do it. They have a snack bar on board and they serve… get this… ALCOHOL! I highly recommend hopping on the(free) ferry and taking a relaxing journey across the water. Definitely worth it!

Very straightforward review here, this surprisingly FREE service between lower Manhattan and SI is a definite win. I can easily drive into SI in 50 minutes from home but it’ll costs me $ 20 or more a day when you factor in the Goethals tolls & fuel. Instead I take the approximate 90 minute commute that’s less than $ 10 a day and the free ferry contributes to that awesomeness. Clean terminals with delis and restaurants on both sides adds convenience to grabbing last minute coffee or a snack. Security is also very tight here so no worries about anyone acting up at the terminal nor the actual boats. Only gripe are when masses of tourists catch the ferry to get pictures of Lady Liberty because many of them do not understand the basics of slower traffic walking on the right and keeping passages clear.

It’s tiny, but it’s convenient and great for those trudging to work who may want some fresh fruit and perhaps a cider doughnut or two. Prices comparable to other farmer’s markets.

You wouldn’t think this, but there is some amazing crispy pizza for $ 2.50 at the pizza place downstairs. I would walk back just for that pizza.

I just bought a donut from the apple farm stand no more than 5 minutes ago. 60cents for a small donut and the most miserable service ever. The man acted like my patronage was inconveniencing him. Jeez. Said something to the effect ‘you must have exact change!’ and grunted when I told him l had wanted 5 instead of what he heard(6). Never was I greeted with such terrible service. Stay away.

I had to head over to SI for a business meeting and was starving! It was like a light came down from the sky and pointed to the Green Market haha There was crap fast food everywhere in the terminal and I was ecstatic to see the fresh fruits! I grabbed some apples and oranges and hopped on the ferry with my delicious lunch… the guy working there was super nice and helpful too :) Thank you Green Market for saving me from having to give in to a greasy burger or pizza…

Staten Island Ferry is a Free transportation ferry to and from Manhattan and Staten Island. The free service was immediately announced after a fire at the terminal and the reconstruction. I know because I have been living on Staten Island for 22 years. What a bargain if you want to whine down by commuting for pleasure or business. You will definitely see tourists with their cameras zapping away. It doesn’t bother me a bit. Heck, I would even offer my service to take group photographs for the visitors showing New York hospitality. The ferry ride will allow you to see or pass Ellis Island, Governer’s Island, New Jersey, parts of Brookyn, Verrazano Bridge and Downtown Manhattan, and we cannot forget the iconic lady, Statue of Liberty, that represents New York City. Take a ride with the ocean breeze on a nice, hot summer day! The new businesses and Farmer’s market give an impressive reason to do so too.

Huge piles of apples! 3 lb. bags of apples for $ 2! They’ve got other stuff… in the spring, like now, they sell lots of herb and vegetable seedlings for $ 1.25 each: basil, thyme, rosemary, peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, etc. They’ve also got some flowers right now(sunflowers for $ 5, pots of morning glory vines for $ 8), and they always have fresh baked goods, honey and preserves. In the fall they tend to have other vegetables, like squash. But their biggest product is the apples. They’ve got a bunch of varieties priced per pound; the $ 2. bags tend to be Empire, Golden or Red Delicious. They’re there on Tuesdays & Fridays, from early in the morning till around 6pm.

I take the ferry everyday and some days I forget what day it is until I see the Market. They usually come on Tuesday and Friday and are located on the second floor before the main lobby to the ferry. Right now they sell lots of flowers, plants and vegetables. They also have lots of different type of apples from local farms. Nothing tastes better than fresh apples. The other section sells fresh and pure honey and maple syrup. It is such a treat to actually eat real maple syrup. They also sell apple cider. My favorite thing are the apple cider donuts. They have two options, with or without sugar added on top. They cost .50 each or a dozen for 5.50. Yesterday I got one of each and they both tasted so fresh(which is a rare treat considering it is so hard to get fresh donuts anymore) and each had their own distinctive taste. They had a very doughy taste to them without giving over the very greasy feel you get with pastries. This market is a nice treat, the people are friendly and I think it is important that we support independent and local businesses.
