Marin Color Service

I wish the customer service was better. Almost every time I’ve come here they have gotten something wrong and instead of apologizing, they basically tell me it was my fault. They always get it wrong, then tell you that’s the way you ordered it… Um no it wasn’t. And the thing that really drives me nuts… There are no price tags on anything in the store. I just don’t get it. I never buy anything except paint because I am not going to stand there and ask the price of everything. So weird and dumb.

I love this place! Everyone in there is super helpful and they always know what they’re talking about. I’ve gotten all my paint here for 10 years now and they fucking rock!!! Great prices, super neat & clean.
& also they very much LOVE TO HELP OUT WOMEN so maybe try not being such an asshole & let them do their damn job. Just because you think you’re a know it all doesn’t mean you are. Anyway Thanks you guys for being great and ALWAYS having everything i need!

Two stars here, only because the color consultants are very helpful; if not for them I’d give 1 star. Why? It took us four visits to get a simple gallon of paint.
Visit 1: Hand the clerk a paint card. Not a strip with several colors — a card with just one color on it. Ask for a gallon of flat. Take it home. Open, and find there’s about two inches of sludge on the bottom of the can, unmixed.
Visit 2: Wife takes it back. They say they can’t replace it — turns out their whole stock is defective. She’s told to come back.
Visit 3: Wife comes back. They show her the paint, which now is properly mixed, but it’s the wrong color. Turns out the paint they gave me on day 1 also was the wrong color, but I couldn’t tell since it wasn’t mixed. They tell my wife sorry, but she must be confused, and force her to take the paint home and check with me. She tells me they all looked at her like she’s a moron. She graduated from an Ivy League college; she’s no moron.
Visit 4: I go back and tell them no, my wife was not confused, I show them the paint chip that I went in with, and demand the proper color. The guy complies with a blank face, no apology spoken.
Four visits for a simple gallon of paint? These folks charge premium prices for lousy service, and, judging by the other reviews, they seem to think all women are ditzes. We won’t be going back here again.

Used them for years HOWEVER went to get some stuff matched and a gallon and new workers to me were both HORRIBLE on the stain instead of ASKING ME A QUESTION like Pini did which was WHAT KIND OF WOOD ARE YOU STAINING — soft or hard??? They said «we need a bigger piece!» And that was it. I don’t feel like either of these workers like to deal with woman PERIOD they were abrasive and condescending!!! PINI however was WONDERFUL and I paid less and got the colors and help I needed

Gary is exceptional. I just bought a new house and had a million questions on repainting inside, outside, a cork floor, and a million other things. I must have spent two hours here and never felt rushed or like my questions were dumb. Expert advice, friendly staff all around, and a fantastic selection with everything I had. I’ll be a customer for life!

I like dealing with the guys at Marin Color Service in Novato. They carry quality paint and other products and have always offered excellent customer service. I’ve gone in many times with questions on certain jobs and products and they always offer quality advice and useful suggestions. If you don’t mind paying a bit more for a quality product, then Marin Color Service is the place to go.

This is my favorite paint store, not just because I live in Novato and they carry my favorite paint (Benjamin Moore), but because of the great service. They are always friendly and helpful, and the several onsite color consultants have always had great ideas and suggestions. I have recently been in there a lot as I am repainting most of the rooms in my house and I’ve had a lot of trouble with colors but the two color consultants there have been great in helping me narrow the choices.

I will never stray to a big box store again for paint when I can get quality product, and friendly customer service right here in town! Kevin and Dean were a great help, were very quick to pull together our rather large paint order. I would like to see prices listed on items like brushes etc as that wasn’t clear but other than that, the service, selection and quality of paint is top notch!

My favorite place just closed it’s store in Novato and I was told Marin Color was the next best option. Well, my experience with these guys didn’t turn out so great. I don’t feel like going into details, but it was pretty much they’re shitty customer service. Maybe it was just an off day for them, but I don’t feel like going back. As for their prices, they weren’t that bad.

They are local and sell excellent quality paint. The paint color choices are many and rich in tone. It is very busy with contractor traffic but I received excellent service. Ask for Matt, he’s the manager and can give you good pricing (residential customers). They have higher prices on their supplies than a big box store, but who wants to drive to San Rafael or Rohnert Park?! I like supporting my local businesses who provide a good product and/​or service.

Highly competent folks, great quality products. I am painting my house and garage, and have been buying all my paint and many of the related supplies there. I like the quality of the Benjamin Moore paint, and I find the quality of the supplies (brushes, roller covers, etc.) better than the junk at Home Depot.
As a residential customer, though, I find it best to plan my visits at times when there is likely not a lot of contractor/​commercial traffic.

The color assistant was very helpful and the paint is always consistent.

I like this paint shop, primarily for two reasons: they are helpful and they are open on Sunday. I am guessing they are a little overpriced, but they carry quality paints, Benjamin Moore and this new paint, Devine. I have been told their main store in San Rafael is better, but I can’t be bothered as they have pretty much everything I want.
