Go up the stairs next to Café du Monde and you will find the original cabin Washington Artillery statue. Also known as 141st Field Artillery Regiment. Washington Artillery Battalion is one of the older militia units dating back to 1838 when it was formed from private funds. In 1862 Union General Benjamin Butler ordered federal soldiers to burn the building. It was burned down and moved to the Jackson Square to honor of the city’s veteran artillery unit. There is a great view of Jackson Square, the cathedral, and the Mississippi River, watch the ships go by. Picture opportunities with everything included in the background.

Small park across Decatur from Jackson Square and between the Jax Brewery and Café Du Mond. Great view of the St. Louis Cathedral and Mississippi River. Excellent photo op location used for post wedding pics, etc. Always open and no cost. Before or after walk next door to Café Du Mond to eat and relax since it’s always open too.
