I stopped at the Market for brunch and decided to try something sweet on my way out. Most of what they had that day was chocolate, which I’m allergic to, so I was restricted on what I could try. I settled on the Praline Bread Pudding, and then found out that it has a whiskey sauce that should go on it — which triggers another of my allergies. I give kudos to the woman working for telling me what the sauce was BEFORE she put it on, as many places don’t pay attention to things like sauces potentially being a problem for people. I decided to try the pudding without the sauce, and it was a bit bland. The pudding was put together very well, but was missing a spark; probably the sauce that I couldn’t have. If I’m back that way again, I might end up trying them again and seeing if something else works for me. However, if what I saw was their normal types of deserts(mostly, lots of chocolate), it’s not a place for me.

I la-la-la-la-LOVE The Sweet Spot!!! I think the owners of the market struck gold not only with The Sweet Spot but in placing them in the first stall when you walk in the doors. There’s something so warm and welcoming about Ms. Donna, her staff and all of their goodies that just takes the market over the edge! I’ve made many stops into the market and I always make sure to try something new at The Sweet Spot. Today I had a wonderful fresh HUGE bagel which was enough for 2 people easily. The chocolate cake parfait is seriously one of the yummiest things I’ve ever tasted, out of this world!!! The peach cobbler of course had fresh peaches and was great as is, but I bet some home made vanilla ice cream(which is made by her daughter) would have been the bees knees! Seasonal sweets are also available too. Multi layer Decadence cake was to die for, pumpkin pie that reminds you of home, and don’t get me started on the King Cake!!!

Was in town for the weekend and happened into St Roch. Well worth a visit. The Sweet Spot is located right at the front door, so easy to run in and grab something to go or to eat and grab something on your way out. We had actually made our way to the bar and settled into a drink when we fell into a conversation with someone we assumed worked in the market. Turns out she was the owner of Sweet Spot. Had a great story, a great attitude, and spent a lot of time helping us think through things to see and do in NO. This is all to say that the service and attitude is exceptional — she was helping us out even though we weren’t even a customer. We had some cookies on the way out and they were superb. I think the trick, like with any spot, is to find the items that suit you. Another review thought it too sweet, but(although I found almost everything in NO very sweet) the cookies were spot on. My advice: give them a try. And if you’re a local, let them know what you like, and I suspect they’ll make it happen for you. It is meant to be a spot to become a regular and the way they cultivate that is to cater to the regulars. Based on the owner, I know they will do well.

I hate to give this business anything less than five stars because they’re always so nice and friendly. And whoever does the baking is very talented and everything is made with exceptional quality, BUT… everything is soooo overly sweet! They produce these incredibly beautiful cakes, cupcakes, pies and cookies but they’re so sweet they will honestly make you gag. Even if they cut the sugar in half it would probably still be too sweet; that’s how much sugar they use. Ironically, their bread pudding is the best I’ve ever had. Most bread puddings are notorious for being extremely sweet but theirs is perfect. I really don’t understand why they use so much sugar in everything, especially considering the health concequences of eating so much. But it’s the only reason I can’t give them five stars.
