They have a fun attitude here and the Manhattan Omelet may have been one of the best breakfast dishes I’ve had to date.

I work in the French Quarter, and I often find myself underwhelmed by the breakfast options, let alone the quality of such a meal, close by my office. Recently, a coworker mentioned she was going to grab breakfast at the Camellia Grill(a.k.a. The Grill), and, since I know her to be a picky eater, I made a mental note to try it out. I finally stopped in on a beautiful, sunny, not humid spring day because I wasn’t quite ready to enter the dungeon that is my windowless cubicle area… I was surprised by the layout, but not deterred in any way. It was all bar style seating which was so inviting for my party of one! I hate sitting at a whole table alone, its just depressing. The bartop had hooks for purses/bags, so I didn’t have to take up an extra seat or dirty it on the floor. The server offered me coffee right away and gave me a tall glass of water, wiping each glass/cup(even the utensils) before he placed them in front of me. It gave me the impression they wanted to make sure I knew it was clean, and I liked that. I don’t know what it is about diner coffee, its always the perfect temperature and taste, and they didn’t let me down here. I had two cups before I left. I ordered scrambled eggs and hashbrowns, only because I had a dental procedure done that prescribed me to soft foods for a week… The meal came out within a few minutes. The eggs were just how I liked them, cooked all the way through and not dried out. The hashbrowns were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Just what I needed! I wanted to stay and drink the coffee all day, but duty calls and I was about to be late for work… I figured there would be a limit to reach for paying with a credit card, but at the register, the man said there wasn’t! I can’t wait to go back for something a little more interesting on the menu!

Yes Yes Yes. After a long night of partying in the french quarter, you are going to want to eat a good solid breakfast. Serving omelets the size of your hangover, The Grill is the place to fill your stomach. Retro diner harkens back to the 50’s with classic diner bar stools. I love it. Just hop on a stool and get ready for tasty tasty breakfast. Hash browns!!! Yum. For sure, get the hash browns.

We wanted to head down to Ruby Slippery while in NOLA, but did not want to wait in line for it. We found an amazing place for breakfast which is known as The Grill. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the staff and pointed where to sit. Our waiter was very friendly. The seating arrangement is unique since there are no tables just one long counter top shaped into 2 horse shoes where the waiter can walk up and down and serve people on either side of the counter. Took our order and yelled it to the chef which cooked out amazing breakfast in front of use. Food was great and simple.

I came here just for a slice of pecan pie on a recommendation so I can’t speak to the quality of the meals served here(although looking around they do look large and delicious and greasy… Which is to be expected at a diner). The pie itself though was so yummy. The slice itself is large enough for two people to split(which is what I did). It comes out warm and gooey and delicious. There is a thick layer of delicious caramel-y goodness and then a layer of pecans. Was a great spot for a quick snack. However, if you’re looking for a slice of pie with pecans all the way through, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for a spot with amazingly photogenic food this is also not the place for you. However, if you’re looking for a tasty snack or meal I would recommend The Grill.

I spoke way too soon… i gave this place two more tries after my last review… I was served a burnt omelet on both ocassions… they still served it to me even though it was visibly burnt!!! I won’t be returning. Sorry but even giving someone an order to go shouldn’t look this bad

Had an early flight and got into the city quite early. Luckily, this place was open and just down the street from our hotel, so my friend and I came in here for a quick breakfast. The place is decorated like a 1950’s diner with bar only type seating which is super cute. There are two oval shaped bars, just walk in and seat yourself. You are then greeted by one of a two servers who is essentially your server. Ours was an upbeat and sassy lady with a really fun attitude who joked with us throughout our dining experience here. They have a pretty extensive menu with lots of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections! They even serve wine and beer… naturally. When you place your order, your server shouts it out to the cooks in the open kitchen cooking your food. I had the two eggs with grilled chicken breast for $ 5.99 which also comes with hashbrowns. No frills and exactly what I wanted! Your order is written on a ticket, placed in front of you, so when you are done, just take the ticket to the cashier and pay.

I love this place. Been there twice now in the last year on my 2 trip to NOLA. The atmosphere is fun as is the location in the Quarter. The food is good, but won’t blow you away. What I really like are the men who work here. They’re pure entertainment and they appear to love what they’re doing. First time I went was when they opened up on Monday morning and a guy playing a tuba walked in!

Love it here, they are friendly, and they sing. This is no Waffle House, they are so much better. They make you laugh. The food is amazing. I would recommend this place to every one!!!

A good meal. We had a bacon hamburger, Yankee harry po’boy and waffle with sausage. The waffles there smell amazing. If you didn’t get one, and then smell one, you will be instantly jealous. The sandwiches were good, no regrets about our orders.

Pecan waffles. Every time I come to New Orleans I *have* to come here and pecan waffles. The BEST breakfast joint in the city. Pecan waffles, btw. The food is all fresh and pecan waffles, even though it looks like a greasy spoon, it’s SO good and also, pecan waffles. Last time I went, I decided to get something different — I went big and got the Garbage Omelette. It’s everything you’d ever have for breakfast, all together. SOGOOD, and totally filling. But I still made room for(wait for it…) PECANWAFFLES!!! This is the EXACT same menu as the original Camellia Grill(it used to be location #2, then the name changed). It’s even got the same style layout as the original. And same friendly staff.

This place is OOZING with character. The experience, alone, is worth the visit. Server John made our night, during my last visit to NOLA. We were quickly scolded upon entering the building for bothering other customers(talking to them). Then, we were threatened with having the cops called on us, and advised that the police would«lose us» in the system, and that they most likely would see us a month from the time of incarceration, and ask, «what are you doing in here?» At another point throughout the dining fiasco, a fight ensued between cooks and servers that may or may not have been serious?! It was just an all-around fun place to be, and I would highly recommend, in a typical New Orleans drunken, late-night stupor, to stumble into The Grill for an interesting time. **If you are easily offended, maybe try somewhere else. [for the record, it was all just for play. They weren’t serious] As for the food, DEFINITELY order the Muffaletta. To die for.

Oh dear, what a disappointment this place was. I truly don’t understand why this place is so popular. I had only been here once before to have a slice of pecan pie, a couple of weeks before. I wasn’t impressed on that occasion either. The pie was dry, hard and tasteless. So, when my friend asked the hotel clerk for a place to go to get a good omelette, she actually said The Grill made great ones. Against my advice, he wanted to give it a try anyway. She and I have different definitions of a «great omelette». I ordered a ham, cheese, onion & mushroom omelette, with crispy hash browns. The ham was minced kind of like hash, the«cheese» was American? I’m guessing. It certainly wasn’t cheddar or Swiss. It was definitely a processed cheese. The onions were fine and I didn’t get any mushrooms although I was charged for them. The hash browns were not cooked crispy either. I’m not trying to nitpick, I gave it a good shot and really wanted to like it, but it was bland and underwhelming. The service was good though, and the diner is cute and charming. I’m going to give The Grill one more try. Their fried eggs & bacon looked good & maybe they will cook my hash browns crispy next time…

The food, service and atmosphere were great. My first visit I had a mind blowing muffaletta. Corned beef, thick ham, lots of Swiss, and olive dressing on French bread. Made me wanna slap my momma. Thing was huge too! Perfect for two people. Second visit had a big fluffy buttery waffle and a coffee. Simple, and tasty. The service was awesome, the fellas here have character and are entertaining while you eat. My boyfriend and I were cracking up just listening to them have fun with each other and the customers. P. s. Don’t come in with an attitude, you’ll get checked real fast! We saw it happen lol

The three star rating is because my honey liked the food, but I believe he likes anything outside of mushrooms, so I cannot fully trust his judgement when it comes to my tastebuds. Love him tho! Honestly I could have made this food at home, I hate spending money on food that just isn’t worth it, $ 21.00 for 1 bacon cheeseburger, and a hot sausage poyboy. I of course had the the burger because either I eat peanut butter crackers, crawfish, or burgers.(Mashed potatoes and green beans where applicable.) ANYWAY, the burger was small it was supposed to be 6oz but it was super small and flat, the cheese on the burger was the worst part of it all! When I want a burger, I want a big juicy burger that I have to use two hands to eat it with. The sausage poyboy was terrible, I took a few bites and I was ready to leave. Our server wasn’t over excited to see us, and wasn’t extremely helpful, but the food came out quickly, you can see the cook, cooking and overall it looked pretty clean, I am sure a good wipe down wouldn’t hurt the place. It’s greasy diner food I get that, I wouldn’t be opposed to eating here again, but I have no desire to run back either!

Meh. Me and my friends were going to dine at Chartres House right across the street, but there was a wait and we were starving so we wanted something without a wait. I pulled my phone out and I saw that this place got excellent reviews and just a few steps away so we decided to come here. The dining area is all counter seating. No tables and no chairs. The staff all work from behind the counter. You can see everything that’s going on behind the counter: the kitchen, the staff making shakes, the cook, everything. The guy who was helping us was okay. He cracked some jokes and what not. But when one of our friends asked if they had some potato salads, his sarcasm came out: «Do you see potato salads on the menu?! If you don’t, they why are you asking for potato salads?» Followed with, «We don’t have no potato salads on the menu, don’t be asking for no damn potato salads.» Well, excuse us, Mr. waiter man. But some restaurants do offer off-the-menu entrees and sides. There’s nothing wrong with asking. Sheesh. Chill out a little, yo. I know you’re dealing with drunk people all day long, but we weren’t even buzzed! Relax. We were expecting more singing(none happened) instead of sarcastic scolding. Food was okay. Your typical greasy diner food. Didn’t take them too long to prepare the food. Not the best I ever had, but definitely not the worst that I ever had either. However, this is the type of place where you would enjoy your food more after a long night of drinking and you just want to chow down. Not going to make it a point to come back here if I’m ever back in the Big Easy. But if we got hungry and this place was in sight, I wouldn’t mind going back either. But this place is nothing special.

Excellente surprise! Un très bon breakfast(omelette the grill) à prix modéré et avec cuisine ouverte autour de laquelle sont disposées des comptoirs en marbre. Serviette tissu, bon café et excellent accueil … Que demander de plus …

Another one of those places that feels like 4 or 5 stars when you’re trashed, but is really only worth 2 or 3 stars when you’re sober. While service is friendly, the food was fairly pedestrian — exactly what you’d expect from an average greasy-spoon diner. Indeed, it’s a diner in the old-school, family-friendly sort of way, with a large menu to choose from, both of which carry added appeal when it’s late at night and you want a dependable bite to eat. Late-night munchies aside, however, there are many finer options in the French Quarter if you want a proper meal.
