I can dig fancy doughnuts like everyone else, but if you want a real deal doughnut without the fluff, tastee is a must! Perfect glazed doughnuts and bear claws.

Much better than Lakeview store! Lg coffe and a bearclaw for $ 3.50. Pastry was delicious albeit a little uncooked near thw center. This didn’t really detract from it. I inhaled it. Coffee was good. Service was prompt. The place was pretty busy.

THERULES: «cash only», «order at the register», «absolutely no refunds», «don’t touch the freezer», and oh yeah«have a nice day»… «THISISTHEKINDOFPLACETHAT’S DISAPPEARING». Well said Kim H. I don’t know if I like Tastee Donuts so much for what it is, or the idea of what it is: the last whimper of a bygone food dive(like the shuttered Hummingbird on St Charles or Takee Outee on Bourbon). If you value the 1950’s authenticity of «Please U» you’ll love Tastee. MISSLAURA is what drives this diner. She’s sweet, efficient, and knows her regulars by name. Miss Laura is sort of the Den Mother of that über-diverse neighborhood. SLIDERS! No they’re not the $ 3-each upscale versions at District Donuts, they are the true greasy Kastleburgers that come 6 to a sack for $ 5.95.

As I lay here(in Seattle) thinking about all the Mardi Gras festivities kicking off back home in NOLA, the only thing I can really really think about is how much I will miss my Fat Tuesday morning Tastee donuts. Tastee on Esplanade is everything. Great service, excellent donuts, and the price! I didn’t know how good I had it until they charged me $ 2.50 for a donut up north. Lord, have mercy. No. I may or may not have had Tastee donuts daily when I went to Cabrini High down the street. I really should have been chubbier back then. So. Many. Donuts. I recommend the classic glaze and glazed bavarian cream. You won’t be sorry. And thus ends the sad musings of a donut-craving loon thousands of miles away. Uh, go get you some Tastee, y’all. I’ll just be here(in Seattle) crying.

Perfect place to pick up a dozen donuts on the way to work in the Quarter, City Park or St John’s Bayou. $ 8.00 for Glazed and $ 9.00 for Filled/Mixed. Tell ‘em the Duke sent ya.

I’ve gotten donuts here a couple of times. The donuts are okay, but they aren’t anything I would go out of my way for. That said, I pretty much live right next to this place and I have for 2 years… so obviously they can’t be that good if I’ve only bothered to go a couple of times. I’m considering trying another location just to see if they are better other places in the city.

Back before… you know… the ‘Thing’ in 2005, this place used to be open 24 hours a day and the only time I ever really stopped by was some time between the hours of 11pm and 4 am, usually on the drive home from the French Quarter after consuming several adult beverages. It was PERFECT for grabbing something greasy to sop up the alcohol and coat my belly before hitting the sack. These days it is only open from 6am — 6pm. I rarely need this volume of grease during these hours, so I don’t go here as much as I used to, but if your in the neighborhood and wants some donuts or apple fritters, castle burgers or fried chicken, or a decent catfish or fried shrimp sandwich, they can hook you up!

The state slogan for Louisiana, for those who don’t know, is Sportsmens Paradise, a little counter-intuitive, but what isn’t around here. If your idea of a sport is one that requires nothing but sitting around and kibitzing and putting unhealthy things in your body, nothing could be more accurate, though, as we are a paradise for that. The donuts are tastee, you cant have a name like Tastee donuts if they weren’t. The coffee is typical donut shop coffee, the fritters are fritterlicious and for those who prefer to think of themselves as culinary explorers, let them nuke up a few castle burgers for you… our local generic version of White Castle, and as delicious and mysterious as the originals. What makes the place stand out though is that its still an old style donut shop, with donut shop stools and a donut shop counter. If there is anything more pure America than that, I cant think of it. Its a friendly place, locals lingering while waiting to show up late for jobs they wont work very hard at when they arrive. Easy to talk to whoever is there. Worth making a special trip out for if your visiting the city? Maybe not, but if you are taking a nice bike ride up Esplanade to City Park, stop in, get a sugar high, and a feeling for just how nice it is to live in a place where the feeling of friendliness is standard.

Small Mom & Pop donut & fried chicken place on Esplanade near Rampart. These were the best apple fritters I’ve ever had, and I try fritters everywhere I go! Definitely a place for locals, since it’s outside the Quarter in a commercial area, convenient to the bus line & I-10. Has about 6 or 8 stools to sit at. Good strong coffee. The crème filled donuts were also good & fresh. They sell about 8 other types of pastries, chicken wings & fried chicken. The fried chicken was really good… crispy & juicey… yumm! Went back for more fritters & chicken before we left town. This is the kind of place that is disappearing. The staff were very welcoming. Cash only!
