The gumbo at this place is delicious will definitely be back for more. I always get the yakamein which is always good as well. Nice hole in the wall with good service with good food.

i ordered the cabbage with smothered pork chops with a side of potato salad and mac and cheese… the mac and cheese looks like it comes straight out of a box… doesnt look like real cheese, more like powdered cheese. its not the mac and cheese like your momma make with milk, real cheese and butter in the oven… the potato salad skip that also… the potatoes were not soft and fluffy(too wet) maybe they didnt let the potatoes drain enough. the smothered pork chop was dry and the gravy for the pork chop was clumped together. it wasnt one of those nice, rich, smooth brown gravy’s…the cabbage — i’ve had better. would not order that meal again…

Pretty good soul food. The gumbo has just the right amount of seasoning.

Order your fried pork chop po’ boy, and you’ll know why its called Riteway. The Porkchops were huge, double layered in the center of the sandwich, tasty batter and $ 6 to boot. Great flaky bread that made an army of crumbs, probably from Gendusa’s, and a tasty fry batter. Favorite part for me is half way through eating, when I hit bone… I don’t know why, but a bone-in pork chop Po Boy is always a special treat… it requires some work, but this kind of work I don’t mind. Riteway has all the standards, including the french-fry Po Boy, which can’t be ordered near the Quarter anymore as the places that still sell them there seem to have forgot that a fried potato Po Boy is really to be sold at Po Boy prices. The place has delicious plate lunches and an especially nice counter staff… The place has been quietly pleasing neighborhood eaters for 20 years and the down home friendliness and banter with the customers is a damn fine bonus. Speaking of bonuses, you can take your food to go and eat it in the beautiful, and always empty, Hebrew Cometary #1 right across the street… Not sure how my god cottons to me eating pig next to the graves of local long gone Jews, but based on the rest of my life, I can only hope he has a sense of humor about it. Dock a star because they had some lame lifetime movie on the TV, but bonus star for the bone and the fact that it’s out in Gentilly. Tourists, get out of the Quarter and explore the eating in the neighborhoods… the best food awaits you, the areas are still rebuilding and appreciate your support, and you can taste the gritty New Orleans food that holds the city together.
