I was looking forward to my brunch gathering at this restaurant; I was disappointed on a few levels and encouraged a few. My food was not great; over seasoned, hash browns burnt and underwhelming, the chorizo was not spicy, but tasted like a container of Morton’s Salt. I would return only because of their manager, who I believe has a vision for this place that hasn’t been realized yet. So, I’m giving it 2.75 stars and waiting for greater clarity.

This is my first time here. The food is delicious and the service is great. They are all very beautiful people. This will become a regular spot.

I’ve never had food like this before. I’m a vegetarian and there were plenty of options available. I shared with a friend so we had about 4 different plates between us to try. Even the butter for the bread on the table was brilliant. In essence, the dishes were very fresh and high quality vegetables(and a duck egg), with a mouth watering array of spice and sauce added to them. I’m always a bit sceptical of ordering plates of vegetables only, but they were spun in such an inventive and tasty way that I was vindicated in my choices. One thing I would like to add is that I agree with another reviewer that if it says pickles on the menu, I expect pickles, not pickled vegetables! Other than that, good job.

I would go back to this place just for the fresh orange juice mimosas. GIMMEALLTHEALCOHOLBEFORE11AM. But seriously, these are dangerously good. The veggie options are kinda slim(I got the potato tacos, which were deeeeelish), but it’s a fun atmosphere with an interesting menu. We ordered a plate of the mixed donut holes and I think I blacked out. When I came to, they were gone. It’s a bit fancier(re: more expensive) than my normal brunch haunts, but we had a great time and left full and just the right amount drunk for a Sunday morning.

My boyfriend and I came here after fishing all day with Captain Ed from St. Bernard fishing charters. Captain Ed cleaned up the fish we caught and delivered it to Maurepas for the chef to cook. We absolutely enjoyed the 3 course meal the chef prepared(trout fish tacos, drum fish with sprouts and blueberries and red fish with a bean purée and cucumber/craw fish mix). The fish was seasoned perfectly and the presentation was very creative. The service was spot on. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was cool and calm(not like in the French quarter where it can be hectic), and the drinks were amazing. Would definitely come back.

Honest foodie feedback: — on the cusp of greatness — stop the deep fry — serve pickles not pickled vegs — or clarify the menu — baked cauliflower and kohlrabi vs. fried would be a winner — hot and cold preps do not work — see gulf shrimp. — priced as awesome place to dine — but served average — hence the empty seats I see potential — but has to step up beyond dropping in a deep fryer…

I did not love Maurepas. I really wanted to. So maybe I just had too high of expectations. Or maybe it was an off night or I didn’t pick the right things to try. Because every time I see a picture pop up from Maurepas, I’m like, that looks really good. I went on a Friday night a couple of weeks back. I ordered the goat tacos and sweet potatoes. The sweet potatoes came with scallion pancakes, which were good. I don’t really love sweet potatoes. I got that dish mostly for the scallion pancakes, so I liked the sweet potatoes okay. The goat tacos didn’t blow me away. I probably won’t get them again. I don’t know if I just need to go back and try some other menu items, but after my last visit, I’m kinda like, there are much better options.

EXCELLENT. Seriously, excellent food. This was the last place we went in NOLA before heading to the airport, so we chose it based on location(convenience to where we were) and Unilocal review, and it turned out to be the best place-or tied for the best place-we went in NOLA. Got the goat tacos and the confit chicken, and it was simply amazing. Highly recommend!

Ive been trying to plan a Bywater food crawl for some time now and finally visited Maurepas. Meh. I love all foods and there wasnt one thing on their menu that appealed to me or my dining partner. I couldnt even find a drink that I identified with on their specialty drink menu. I ended up ordering a sangria made with mezcal. Lets just say theres a reason Mezcal isnt popular. The cheese plate had a cheese that smelled just like elephants. Was it on the bargain rack? Were they trying to offer things that you would never eat anywhere else? Dont get me wrong, i like a stinky cheese or two but this was a complete turnoff. We didnt touch the pickled plate because we either couldnt identify the items and what we did sample tasted like pure cider vinegar– just not my thing maybe someone elses. I ordered the $ 9 broccoli expected something spectacular based on the description and price. It was very dry, bitter, plain jane broccoli with pomagranate seeds on the plate. The chicken was the only thing that looked half appealing because of the poached egg and grits. This was edible, just lacked salt or flavor. By the end of the meal, I sat back and looked around the room to observe if others were really enjoying themselves. My guess is thag their company was good which distracted them from the lame food. Sorry but its very rare that the food disappoints me so much and I regret suggesting this as a stop on our food crawl. On the other hand, the place is elegant and I hope their next seasonal menu is an improvement.

I had heard from a lot of people how good Maurepas is and I was told I had to try it. The person with whom I had dinner had been raving about it. Sadly, I was left disappointed. Stopped in here on a weeknight, there was no crowd at all and we were seated immediately. Looking over the menu, there isn’t a lot of selection, but I’m okay with that as long as a place does the few items they have on the menu well. I started with the stone ground grits which were excellent. They were creamy and had a lot of flavor and if I were to return, this is what I would get. For my entrée, I decided on the fish. It wasn’t the gulf fish that was on the menu, but it was another fish special which was lightly fried and served with a cole slaw type mix. I was pretty disappointed with it. The fish was pretty dry and didn’t have a whole lot of flavor and the cole slaw salad mix was pretty flavorless. Considering the fish was about $ 17, I would say that it wasn’t worth the money at all. After dinner we ordered coffee, and the cream that came with it had curdled. They quickly rectified this issue, but come on– we just paid a good bit of money for dinner, you should know if the cream had curdled or not. I would go back, but I would probably get the grits and another appetizer and make that my meal. I wouldn’t order a full on entrée again, although I hear that the chicken leg quarter is good. The staff was super friendly and accommodating.

Late night dining is always so hard to find, especially on a weekday. Maurepas Foods is open 11AM to 12AM so it was a perfect place to catch dinner with my fiancé, who works in the restaurant industry so he gets out pretty late. The feel is very hip and it’s located in the Bywater area, which is booming with new restaurants! First off, I loved the chili butter! Butter with chili oil. two sinful goodies all in one, then spread over bread. Mmm! The chicken leg quarter was very homey and moist. If you like goat and are into gamey flavors, then the tacos are for you! Goat meat is definitely an acquired taste, but is definitely worth a shot if it’s your first time because it’s the perfect transition via taco. I will have to say the food menu is limited, but the quality and value is there!

My bridesmaids and I were super excited for dinner here on our first night in town and while I wish it hadn’t been so freezing cold inside and that there had been a bigger crowd — I’m all for no wait, but sitting in a basically empty restaurant wasn’t what I was looking for either — I think we were mostly happy with our experience. They have a really cool cocktail menu that’s perfect for a fun girls dinner and the cheese plate we all shared was delicious. I will say, the menu is kind of confusing and we had to ask what the top«Vegetables, Starch & Grain» section was all about, but everyone was impressed with their dishes. I loved my grits — I hate disappointing grits so these were a pleasant surprise — and could totally have JUST ordered that and been happy. Overall, it was an okay experience but definitely not the highlight of our trip.

While I appreciate a unique spin on shrimp and grits with their kimchi addition, I thought that 4 small overly salted shrimp on a huge mound of heavy-creamed grits didn’t justify the $ 13 price tag. The $ 4 side of burned hash brown patty was embarrassing. They comped us for that, fortunately, as it really wasn’t even edible. Hate to sound like debbie downer, but I also did not enjoy my Bloody Mary which tasted like it had pickle juice in it? As we were in New Orleans for such a short period, I left disappointed that I had wasted my time, money and calories here.

I’m really torn between two and three stars here. They’re getting the third based purely on the fact that it was the only place serving food between brunch and dinner in the area. Warm tap water is not my fave. So that was the first disappointment. The cocktails were also hugely disappointing. My roommate’s drink was what I believe to be vanilla musk and diesel. Mine was slightly more drinkable. The food was good. Once it FINALLY came out. I had the fish sandwich, which was a nice size and fairly tasty. Roommate’s duck meatball was one, lonely, rather small meatball with a couple of chunks of squash. He enjoyed it, but at $ 16 one expects more food. Luckily I ordered sides for us. The greens were unimpressive, and maybe even a little too tangy/pickled. The grits were by far the saving grace of the whole experience. Some of the best I’ve ever had. Minimally over salted, but perfectly ground and cooked. With tip, $ 80 for what we had is outrageous. So even as good as the grits were, I’ll never be back.

Sure, it’s small plates. One duck meatball? $ 12. So I ate like a socialite: too much booze, not enough food and laughed with friends. Granted, the meatball was delicious, but really, one?

I can’t tell you about their menu because it’s ever changing. The only two things I know that haven’t gone away are the chicken leg quarter and goat tacos. Definitely palate pleasing place ! I haven’t gotten anything that disappoints and they’re open until 12AM six days a week ! The drinks are on point as well. Don’t be weary. Just give em a try and I’m sure your belly will thank you.

I’ve heard good things about Maurepas, and their use of local products for a lot of their dishes… so me and my buddy went for an early dinner on a Friday night. I’ve never been to this corner of the Bywater and it’s got some things going on with little stores and some other bars/restaurants near by. I need to try and come here during the day to check out the neighboring stores. It was pretty quiet in the restaurant and they seated me before my friend arrived. The server, who I did not get his name but has an accent, was so sweet, polite and attentive. He showed me their hot cocktail menu, and since I’m sick, this really was the perfect excuse to have a drink. The restaurant itself doesn’t scream modern and new, but *BRANDALERT* I love the logo, the menu design and the simplicity of their interior design as a whole. Big windows so you can see the three –legged dog run by with his cycling owner, cats sprinting to God knows where, and general people watching. The logo is clean and super simple, but with a semblance of the Katrina X marked on houses, not sure if that’s intentional. The dishes aren’t complicated but I don’t think I could pull them off, if that makes sense. The drinks do look super complicated but the two we had were delicious. I ordered the Sweater Weather* cocktail, that arrived steaming. The smell could clear out any congestion. Once I stopped being a weenier about burning my mouth, I enjoyed this concoction thoroughly. It’s a little bit acquired, and you’ve got to stop breathing through your nose to get a sip or it may overpower your senses, but I liked it. My friend got the Alliteration*, a gin cocktail that looked like a snowball. I thought I didn’t like gin, but this drink may have set me straight. It was so so so delicious and refreshing; perfect for the summer when I will probably be ordering it. For food, we scooped up the large cheese plate and a small pickle plate. I thought it would be pickled cucumber pickles, but it was an assortment of pickled vegetables. I enjoy a really high acidic/vinegar-y flavor so these pickled vegetables were just okay to me, but the large cheese plate(all of the cheeses) were amazing. Between two people, we couldn’t finish it. For dinner, I ordered Congee and the Goat Tacos. I had never had Congee, a rice porridge, before and so glad I tried it. Super filling, flavor was mellow but delicious. I’ve never eaten Goat Tacos, and at this point I realized my eyes were bigger than my belly. Goat isn’t as fatty as pork, and I felt it was drier, but in a good, not fat drippy sort of way. It’s three shredded meat double soft shelled tacos with an amazing cilantro harissa sauce and pickled green tomatoes. I could only manage to put down one at the restaurants, but other two were perfect the next day. The cilantro sauce was finger-licking good and the pickled green tomatoes were a great addition to the tacos. This wasn’t a cheap meal between my friend and I, but we also ordered more than we were able to put away in our bellies and my friend had two of her specialty snowball cocktails. I think it’s totally worth the price tag here. We didn’t get to nosh on dessert, but the menu of homemade dishes and ice cream looked amazing and I hate myself for not having multiple stomachs. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their simple, amazing dishes and drinks! Sweater Weather* — Spiced Bourbon, lemon, lime, milk, brown sugar Alliteration* — Gin, satsuma, Cocchi Americano, cranberry

BIBIMBAP is my favorite Korean food(and way fun word: bee-BEEM-bop!). My partner’s mother is Korean, and through her I was fortunate to experience, learn and prepare their centuries old cuisine. Heck, we even make our own kimchi. One of the best attributes of their dishes is that they ferment well as leftovers and then are excellent mixed: «bibimbap». My chicken entrée at Maurepas was good bibimbap. When eaten together the various components are actually more delicious and sumptuous than individually: sweet & sour vibrantly hued collards, salty pink charred Chisesi’s ham, creamy grits to offset the veggies’ tartness, crispy nutty golden chicken skin, rich almost slippery dark meat, all adhered by a thick gooey sunny-yellow poached egg. And they were even better as leftovers! AFFORDABLE: almost the entire menu is $ 12 or less. KIMCHI: Did you know that Korea was one of the few Asian countries not to have an Avian flu epidemic & many credit that putrifying cabbage condiment for their immunity?

Now I would normally give this joint three stars(don’t stone me y’al, I know some Elite Unilocalers love this place) but my drink was so damned good(which I remembered the name of it, see my picture) and the ambience at the bar, plus the cute bartenders was awesome so I bumped it up to 4 stars. Let me explain, it was a Saturday night and the place was packed. We waited a bit for a table and when we got seated we got the ditziest waiter imaginable. Fortunately there we were still near the bar and near where waiters went in and out so we could catch someone to help refill our glasses etc. as other reviews have stated it. Gets really loud in here. I didn’t notice it at the bar but when we we were seated it was tough to hear. After thoroughly reading the Unilocal reviews I ordered the goat tacos to share as an appetizer and they were good but kinda small. I ordered the mussels which were good but nothing to write home about. Sadly the best food I tried there was a friend’s side of grits, damned they were good! My friends were disappointed in the small portions of food. So I would definitely recommend this joint to grab a nice strong drink at the bar and to hang out there. Not so much for the food. Happy drinking!
