My favorite item here is the cheese plate. Which is interesting considering the other options available in the neighborhood for big cheese plates. However they really know how to do a cheese plate and give a variety of options between sweet and savory mixes for the cheese. The service is nice the ambiance is nice I’ll be at the food is slightly pricey for a burger and small portions but the cheese plate is definitely worth the money.

First visit to Oxalis… Heard great reviews about the spot and decided to go with some family. Friday night was a bit busy at the cool eclectic restaurant. We were greeted by a very pleasant hostess that told us there would be a little bit of a wait. We didn’t have a reservation, so we didn’t mind the 25min wait. Once seated, we were greeted by our server. We ordered the burgers, frites, fried okra and wings which were all just GREAT. Burgers were good & light weight but filling. Wing sauce was delightful and wings were fried crispy. Fresh cut okra and seasoned fries were awesome as well. On the other hand our server seemed to have been very busy and pretty much forgot everything we asked for. Small things, like a straw ketchup, wing sauce… Took about 15 mins for her to pick our check up from the table. Overall cool restaurant.

A few friends and I had dinner here last night. The server was very attentive without being pushy. The pâté was delicious. My burger with marrow was cooked perfectly. My fiancé had a great cocktail called«Man in a brown jacket»(Don’t quote me on that). All in all, it was great.

Great restaurant with great ambience and food. We went on our first night in New Orleans, and our waiter offered some personal suggestions which were very helpful in planning the rest of our trip!

This was our first time here — for a date night — and we really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is lovely, especially on the patio!(They have heaters for when it’s chilly out.) Rustic, but also romantic! Attire is nice casual through dressy, with groups of friends and date nights happening easily in the same space. Background music at one point was a little different, but not a big deal; was better later on. We started with the fried okra, which is done in long strips instead of little circles — delicious! He had the lamb rib special, and the flavors were fantastic! He said there wasn’t as much meat as he would prefer for an entrée, but they also offer a half portion as an appetizer, so maybe that would be better? Still, flavors were really wonderful! Hope it becomes a regular menu item! I had the steak frites, and it was really good! I’d definitely order it again! We went to see a show in the neighborhood, then came back for dessert afterwards. No decaf coffee was a bummer, but ordered the trio to try the different desserts. The chocolate one and the crème brûlée were really great! The goat cheese cheesecake is good, too, but not what we were in the mood for once we ate it. We definitely plan to go back again, esp once the weather gets nicer!

Some of the best service I’ve received at a restaurant in a long time. The waitress we had,(can’t remember her name unfortunately) was friendly, attentive, and took her time to explain drinks and dishes in great detail. She also helped to set up a different heater for us on the patio so that my girlfriend and I could be more comfortable. As for the food and drink, they were having a special Manhattan cocktail that night which we tried and loved. The lamb rib appetizer was great along with the burger and steak frite entrees we ordered. Definitely worth the trip to the bywater to visit Oxalis.

Oxalis has recently become our go-to date night spot as well as where we bring friends when they visit from out of town. It is a nice location in the Bywater, and during the times when it is bearable to sit outside, they have a lovely courtyard. The décor inside is kind of dark, romantic, and«rustic elegant.» Yeah, I don’t really know what that means, but it is cool. The food and drinks cannot be beat! Our favorites include the burger(one of the best in NOLA), frites(house made, with honey mustard dipping sauce), my husband enjoys the bone marrow, the seasonal salad is always good too. Their cocktails are fantastic, I have had to take a break for about 9 months but looking forward to imbibe again soon! They do make a delicious lemonade which will have to do for now! Parking in this area if fairly ample, staff is friendly, prices are very fair(especially during Happy Hour!), and if you go during the week there usually isn’t much of a wait, if any!

Amazing place in Bywater. Justice is a stand up businessman, with a charm that is unmatched. I love this place and the food is top notch.

Went here first time with the hubs(see Big Easy Daddy’s review for a breakdown of that meal), and decided to take my employees here for a delightful holiday treat. The waitress wasn’t as attentive as our server, Waites, the first time we came. To the extent that several times, Waites actually came over and filled our water glasses, etc. The food, including the happy hour drinks are top notch. The ambiance is spot on. This is a hip Bywater joint that will delight your senses. We plan on making this a spot for a weeknight getaway when we can get a sitter. Kudos to Kevin for making us feel welcome!

The Cajun Spiced Buttered Popcorn(5 $) is the best thing on the menu! It’s sweet like kettle corn but it’s buttered… and spiced… and delicious! I didn’t like the duck pâté(12 $). The korean wings(10 $) tasted like Frank’s Red Hot buffalo wings served with kimchi. It wasn’t bad, it wasn’t good, it was alright. The pork on the bywater bosom(10 $) was very tasty and cooked well. I would recommend it but I won’t lie, I forgot I tried it until I looked at the menu. The cauliflower steak(17 $) wasn’t good, it wasn’t bad. It’s exactly what you think it is. I didn’t order this, one of my dining companions did. It didn’t seem like she enjoyed it. I tried it. The entire dish tasted bland to me. I say save your money and order the oxalis burger(9 $). The oxalis burger with blue cheese was good. The blue cheese(1.5 $) made the burger for me. It came with fries. Fries were crispy. Solid burger, meat was flavorful, bun was nice and toasty. The steak frites(20 $) was good. The hangar steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Again, the fries were crispy.

Oaxalis, must be some delightful foreign word for, «an experience so delightful, words fail to describe it.» However, describe it I must and so I will attempt to encapsulate m visit with the most descriptive words my mortal mind can muster. From the minute you walk in the door of this restaurant, to the moment you begrudgingly depart will be spent in some sort of ethereal gastrogasm induced haze. The staff in this eatery does not spare any necessity to make you feel welcome and at home. The dining experience from the cozy outdoor seating, to the ambient music is carefully orchestrated to make you feel better than you have ever felt before outside of the arms of a loved one. My wife and I arrived here for happy hour(4 to 7 Monday to Thursday). We were greeted and seated by Kevin, also the G.M., who seemed to cater to our every request as though we were visiting dignitaries and not simply a couple out on a long needed date night I ordered an Old Fashion; my wife ordered the punch o’ the day, both of which were absolutely unparalleled in taste and quality. We then ordered the charcuterie plate, which was ample, and of such quality and presentation that it would be equally at home on the table of the King of Dubai, as it was here. Beautiful cheeses, meats and such subtle and divine Chorizzo, your taste buds will be dancing for joy. My wife ordered the Tomato salad, which the simple name not withstanding, was a truly hidden surprise. The Burrata Cheese was so sublime and complimented the salad beautifully. Myself, I ordered the Short Ribs, braised in Bourbon I believe. This was delicious. Subtle, yet powerful, melting in your mouth, while melting your heart. Served with Black Eyed Peas, of an almost euphoric flavor sensation, the entire meal was not to be missed. And it is here that I must sing the praises of our server«Waites». You will search high and low in the Crescent City to find a server who is as utterly attentive as Waites. Once again, we were treated as though we had been coming here for years, it was truly one of the best dining experiences I have had in al of my years as a Foodie. Oh, and I cannot neglect to mention the Steak Frittes. So beautifully done crispy, yet delicate on the inside, and served with the most beautiful Aioli for dipping. You’ll be licking the plate in no time at all, much to the chagrin of your spouse or date. This place has us for regulars, you can bank on that my friend. Oaxalis, a purely singular dining experience in a city with oh so many merely adequate ones. And as much as it will pain me to see this place get busier, I truly cannot in good conscience keep this little Gem to myself. Give this place a try, trust me. You’ll be glad you did.

It’s really 3 ½ stars. Friends have raved about the burger, so I went. It’s just precious cooked to perfection. I wanted more. Not big-as-your-head burger. but a wee big bigger. Burgers shouldn’t be subject to the small plates The drinks were delicious and the bar is uncomfortable for dining. The lighting is dim, so every one looks great and you can use the glow of your smartphone to read the menu.

What a romantic and quaint setting!!! Went on date night here and was promptly greeted by server, Eric. He was very friendly and welcoming. He recommended us to go check out the restaurant in its entirety and I was so amazed at this place! It can accommodate groups, has several smaller private patios, an extra bar in the back, air conditioned rooms as well as outside seating, etc etc. I would def recommend here for a group get together OR intimate date night! We started off with the frites served with two sauces. Delicious!!! Then we ordered the korean wings. Spicy but so good!!! I wanted to check out the pork belly but maybe next time. I got the duck pâté and it comes with sliced French bread. I enjoyed it, although I peeled off most of the top white layer(duck fat). My boyfriend had the burger… Very moist and flavorful. A tad salty but bearable. I really enjoyed this place. I wanted to order the«cauliflower steak» but was just too full by the time I finished my small plates. Definitely recommend! Great service and great food!

This is just a review of the rude behavior of Oxalis staff I encountered and not the food or otherwise as I didn’t get to that point. I attended a wedding in the area so my friend and I are all dressed up and decide we want to try Oxalis so we look at Unilocal and it says they open at 4:00 but we go to Bacchanal first to have a bit of wine fun first. So we arrive at Oxalis around 4:54 and walk right in and don’t see a hostess but there is a bartender busy doing some bar things behind the bar so we just take a seat as nobody else is inside. After a few minutes a lady carrying a box walks by and asks«are you waiting for somebody that works at the restaurant» so we indicate we just want a menu and some drinks. The very unhappy box holder tells us that«the restaurant isn’t open yet and the door shouldn’t have been left open so you shouldn’t be inside.» I asked what time they opened and the box women tells me, «5:00» so I look at my phone and reply, «it’s 4:56?» so we get up and leave and go to Delachaise instead as there was no way we were waiting outside in the thermonuclear heat. I guess they really hate seersucker suits in the Bywater as this was the most unprofessional and rude experience I’ve had at a New Orleans restaurant. Geez box girl sorry you were having a bad day but that was just EXCEPTIONALLY rude and unprofessional to treat customers like that. I don’t care so much when people are bunghole whack-jobs to me as I will make entertainment out of them but the fact that this box girl was rude to my guest made me quite unhappy. Quibbling over a mere 4 minutes in NOLA is ludicrous and cost Oxalis income that night so a firm application of a lesson in Southern manners is apparent as I assume box girl is some form of Yankee interloper unversed in our superior Southern ways and traditions of polite human communication.

What an awesome little place in the bywater. Looks so cool inside and there is a cute patio seating area outside. Cajun Hot Spiced Buttered Rum Popcorn — I didn’t know something this delicious and unique was possible but it is and you can only get it at Oxalis. Frites with two sauces– also excellent. I’m a sucker for fries with aioli. Their burger is one of the best in the cities. And it’s not huge but the perfect size, all fresh ingredients.

It doesn’t get better than this, seriously. The bartenders are so sweet(props to Stephanie at the back bar), the food is on-point and the bourbon/whiskey menu is to-die-for. Reasonable price point and inventive menu items are just icing on the cake. I have the pâté(seriously, foodgasm worthy) and split the bo saam and the burger with the beau. Both sandwiches had clean flavor profiles and were expertly executed. My old fashioned was delicious and the follow-up cocktail, which I have forgotten the name of, was also divine. The location is off-the-main-path but has such a nice atmosphere, I only wish my house were so cool. All in all, a must-visit when you are in NOLA.

I absolutely loved my experience at Oxalis. We were greeted immediately on a Friday night by a friendly hostess who sat us immediately in the quaint middle room that houses just two roomy but cozy booths. Our server was genuinely sweet and charming and was very patient as we took some time chatting before deciding on drinks. I chose a Moscow Mule, as I’ve recently gotten into ginger beer and our server mentioned their’s was made in house. Absolutely delicious and I had three! Wheee! We started with the beet salad which was delectable. Per the menu, «Pickled and Braised Beets, Smoked Blue Cheese Crema, Candied Walnuts and Fresh Dill». I ordered the recommended burger and was not disappointed. I added bacon which was nicely set against pickled shallots. Our server recommended sharing frites, which was appreciated as it was a large serving. I didn’t even get to check out the patio space, but we had a nice leisurely evening out and I cannot wait to go back.

Alright I’m updating my review because I’ve gone back twice more. I got the burger again and it was better — they still could give me more shallots and other toppings but better. The other time I went, I had the steak and enjoyed it. Their fries are good. I’m mainly giving them another star for improvements in service and the realization that you just really can’t beat a well made old fashioned for $ 5 at a restaurant similar to this one anywhere else in the city(that I know of).

Out of all the restaurants in the Bywater Dauphine St. corridor Oxalis is my favorite! Beautifully decorated in the prohibition style that’s become so popular lately this place is consistently serving good food and is great for first dates or a gathering of friends. The bar has a unique selection of signature drinks that appear complicated on the menu but are wonderfully balance once mix and served. When it comes to the food you can’t go wrong with the Korean wings, the cauliflower steak, the Oxalis burger(keep it simple) and the Gulf Fish that is a great union of land and sea.

We had a really nice dinner here and would definitely return. My husband was feeling a little off of his game, probably from bingeing on beignets and other yummies while in New Orleans. So, we didn’t get to try everything on the menu that we’d have liked to try. We arrived around 7:00 on a Saturday without a reservation and were seated with no problem, but the place definitely filled up quickly, so I would likely try to reserve in the future. The restaurant got pretty loud — there is no upholstery to speak of to dampen the noise, and the music was blaring. It’s probably a great place to go for a first date because you don’t have to worry about talking too much! We started with the kale salad, beet bruschetta, and Korean wings. The waitress seemed a little confused that we didn’t order more food, but like I said, my husband was feeling off of his game. The kale salad was probably the best thing that we had in New Orleans all weekend — so fresh, light, and lovely. I was a big fan of the beet bruschetta, as well — though in truth, beets really aren’t that easy to eat as a topping on bread, so I ended up taking them off and eating them with a fork and then enjoying the toothsome bread afterward. My husband loved the Korean wings — though they were SO messy to eat(at least wet naps were provided)! We ended with a really lovely brewer’s crème brûlée, and were satisfied with all of these choices. I would definitely make a point of going back to try more of the menu!
