Want to get drunk off one $ 7 drink? Don’t mind your tongue changing colors in the process? I love my purple drink and Lafitte’s! Whenever friends come into town, I take them immediately to Lafittes

Very cute little bar. We had to stop in for the purple drink. It was really yummy. For all you grape kool aid drinkers, you’ll love it. They claim to be one of the oldest bars in the US. You can sit down right next to the piano player while he plays… Go check it out!

This place is so cool! The oldest operating bar in America, according to our bartender. Lafitte’s has no electricity(other than for cash register); everything is by candlelight. This makes for a very laid-back atmosphere. A perfect place to have a drink and conversation. You have to visit Lafitte’s if you’re in New Orleans!

Everyone should come to Lafitte’s at least once during their stay in New Orleans. The building alone warrants a visit. Lafitte’s is way on up Bourbon Street but well worth the stumble. It’s allegedly the oldest running bar in the US. The building itself makes me feel like I’m in Old Salem every time I come. I’m partial to an afternoon or happy hour drink at Lafitte’s before it gets super crowded. Being squished in like sardines with a bunch of drunk strangers in a 300 year old building isn’t my cup of tea. Pro tip: avoid the voodoo frozen drank. I consider myself a frozen drank connoisseur and this blackish purple concoction tastes disgusting. Other than that, everything else about Lafitte’s is just plain awesome.

This is a place we stopped by a few times as we were on our way back to our hotel before everything else closed. We seen some crazy stuff around here and Lafitte’s is a good place to have a drink. Apparently it’s one of the oldest continually running bars in the US and was open even during Hurricane Katrina. It’s also said to be haunted(which…let’s be honest. every place in the french quarter is haunted). Some pirate or something can be seen in the corner of the restaurant relaxing. Anyway there’s not much more for me to add besides we had a few drinks here and hung out late at night before heading back to our hotel.

Unh huuuu huuuuu huuuu mon cheri… nothing better than some late-night voodoo juice at Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop. Probably the only almost 300 year old piano bar on the planet… yes there is a piano man at circa 1722 Lafitte’s and he can tickle those black and whites like no other! The night was warm, the beer was cold… and underneath a streetlamp I met a southern belle. She took me to that river where she cast her spell and in that southern moonlight she sang a song so well! Yes my money it started to flow like wine and that lowdown southern whisky began to fog my mind! No doubt Lowell was at Lafitte’s, not Memphis, when he wrote Dixie Chicken.

Home of the original Hurricane! This one is made of real juice and not with mix, drink from the straw not the cup(they have 151 floating on the top). Each person must buy a drink in order for you to sit at a table.(Oh well, togo cups it is!)

Sitting in a building that has been around since 1722 is an experience all of its own. The atmosphere is cool and so much of the original structure exists, so it’s cool to sit around and think about all of the history this place has seen. It’s pretty much exactly like you would picture it, and looks like it stepped out of a Renaissance Fair, only this place is legit. I’m definitely glad that I came for a visit and sat and had a drink. It’s likely an experience everyone should have if they are able to, since not many buildings with this much age on them exist in the US anymore. That said, the drinks left a lot to be desired. So come in, check the place out, and have a drink… but do most of your drinking elsewhere.

This place is an absolute gem. Dark and mysterious feeling in the air, historically rich. Love the cozy fireplace and the back area, too. Excellent drinks, and decent prices for the location. Definitely the ideal place for a visitor who is spending a night in the NOLA area. Would absolutely come back again.

Everyone is going to tell you to do certain things in New Orleans. You should ignore most of them. This spot actually passes the test. Pop in for a drink. Yeah, it still holds a lot of tourists given its proximity to Bourbon Street, but I’ll put up with that if the setting is actually genuinely cool — which this spot was. The inside is naturally cold and was a nice respite from the heat. It can get kind of dark inside, but I enjoy the air of mystery it gave my cave world. A backyard area with a separate bar was great to get outside back into the sunshine.

We were told to check this place out from a local while drinking on Lakeshore. The oldest building hosting a bar in the US! It’s really cool even without the added stigma of being so old and historic. The place is dimly lit with just candles and features nice hard wood chairs and tables. We didn’t order any food(not even sure if they serve it?) but we did get a few rounds of drinks which we enjoyed while people watching. There can’t be many places more interesting to people watch than Bourbon Street. I can’t wait to come back.

My night here has been hazy. I know we spend a good amount of time but because of my second moons on from the previous place before heading here has affected my judgement. It was dark, loud but had a really good vibe. I’d love to come back when I’m completely sober. Ha!

Pretty cool to know that you’re visiting the oldest bar in America. Over 300 years old. It was pretty dark when we walked in and then the bartender informed us that there were no lights in the place. Pretty dope in my opinion. We ordered a hurricane and purple drank. The Hurricane was waaayyyyy too strong, to the point where it didn’t even taste good. Wouldn’t order again. The purple drank on the other hand was awesome! It tasted like grape soda. Come here for the history and the purple drank!

Such a neat place. They used to only have candles for lighting and had no electricity. Now they put in electricity for the ice machines and refrigerators, but they still only use candles to light the tables. I was told that this is a place that the locals go to and that it had the best hurricane drink on the city. Had to try one, a little sweet but all fruity drinks are sweet for me. I liked it and would recommend if in the Bourbon Street area. It’s all the way down the street …

My favorite dive bar in the French Quarter. I don’t believe I’ve ever made it out of Lafitte’s without at least one sazerac in my belly and I don’t think I ever will. Having said that, there are some very nice craft beers and some serviceable«quantity» beer selections available. You can also opt for the slushy purple drank or hurricanes Lots of fun and always a pleasant surprise, no matter if it’s a quiet intimate night or an all-heck’s-broke loose throng night.

Hands down, my favorite bar in New Orleans. It is at its best on a nice day or evening where the inside is cool or you can enjoy the patio. I love the Purple Voodoo Daiquiri, although it does kind of taste like kids grape cough medicine or the purple Otter Pop from back in the day. If you get a hurricane, they are strong! Many photos of all the celebrities who have visited the joint adorn the wall. One caveat, if you are faint of stomach, this might not be the best bar for you to use the facilities. The bar is allegedly haunted, although the scariest thing there I have ever seen are some of the over severed patrons. It is also reported to be the oldest structure used as a bar. If you are in New Orleans, give it a visit at least for one drink. If you are at Port of Call, it is a short walk down Bourbon Street from Esplanade.

If you are fortunate enough to be in New Orleans, you have to visit the oldest bar in the country. With its dim-lit, dancing candles, piano, and the old fireplace in the middle décor– screams romance, perhaps, horror, depends on how you see it. Four Unilocal

Ahead of my NOLA trip, Lafitte’s was on my must-stop list. Now that I’ve made it here, I’m not sure I’d say you absolutely *need* to visit for a drink, but you should at least walk by. The historic façade is really cool. There are claims that it’s the«oldest bar» in the US. Inside, you’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time with the dim lighting and an aging interior, but then you’ll be brought back to reality when the bartender suggests you order a voodoo daiquiri. That’s apparently their signature drink. He said it tasted like a «grape popsicle,» but it tasted more like something you’d find in a drug-store to me. After finishing just a few sips, I passed it off to my friend. I couldn’t handle the taste and it started to make me feel a little nauseous. Not ideal. Oddly, a group next to us was drinking on a piano. It was a little weird. Pianos are not tables. Our stop was during the afternoon light, but I’d be curious to see what this bar is like in the evening. Hopefully their other drink options are better than that purple voodoo drink thing. Eep.

Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop is a historical site and a bar all in one. Now you don’t need to feel bad for drinking instead of sightseeing because you can do both at one time. My friend and I popped in during the day while it was still light outside. Even still, this mostly electricity free establishment was still pretty dark. We took a spot in the back near the piano. As an aside, I wonder if they use the piano at night. If so, I thought it was a little odd that people were sitting around it like it was a table during the day. While we only stayed for a drink, it was a cool place to see. Hopefully I’ll make it back at night on my next trip. I bet that’s even cooler.

The oldest bar in the USA is also one of the cooler bars on Bourbon Street, located towards the end of the street, it gives a small reprieve from the normal outrageous hustle and bustle normally associated with Bourbon. It still gets packed especially at night but the clientele doesn’t appear to be as boisterous as only parts of the street. Bar is nothing to look at and it definitely looks like the oldest bar around, nice outside patio area for lounging and backroom with piano and player singing all the usual piano bar staples. Chairs and tables all over the place for a relaxing experience but place also to move around and dance a bit. The bathroom is a nightmare and I’m a guy, I could go anywhere but wouldn’t do certain things in this place, I’d rather my insides rot then attempt to go in this place. Beers are limited but full bar outside of that including the frozen drinks that make Bourbon popular, the purple one is especially tasty and claimed to have Everclear. Must visit on the Bourbon street bar crawl.
