CHEF’S BEAMINGSMILE when she proudly presented my dish was the most disarmingly sweet dining moment I’ve had this year. Her«Dom» on a house golden-crusted drop biscuit was unquestionably a beauty. Unfortunately I had ordered it to go so it had to be unplated. SECONDDISARMINGLYSWEETMOMENTOFTHEYEAR When I opened my go-box, Chef had even saran-wrapped the orange wedge garnish(see pic)! EVERYINGREDIENTWASOFTHEHIGHESTQUALITY Under the biscuit top were slices from a gorgeous ham, melted cheddar and a perfect thickly runny fried egg. The accompanying house dijonaise was a good acidic offset. With a big 20-ounce iced coffee I paid just $ 11.

The good: Hivolt is one of the few places in the area where you get a green smoothie AND a delicious biscuit breakfast sandwich, buy kombucha on tap AND add bacon to anything. My toddler son also loves their muffins and the fact that they aren’t total sugar bombs assuages my mom guilt. The coffee is excellent and I’m fairly obsessed with the Ozzy plate(quinoa, kale, poached eggs and avocado in an herb kefir dressing, so good). The space has been vastly improved from the P’s & Q’s days(RIP) and they even have a high chair available. It’s also walkable from where I live, so the family and I often stop in on the weekend at some point to pick up a quick breakfast or lunch. At least… it’s supposed to be quick. There seems to be some sort of breakdown in the ordering system that leads me to the bad: getting my food order is often slow and unreliable. What seems like it should take 15 minutes or less has twice taken closer to 25 – 30 minutes — once because they somehow forgot our order altogether and then this weekend, when they gave our order to someone else and didn’t realize it until much later. So I write this review as a heads up to diners(be aware once you put in your order and if it seems to be taking an unreasonably long time, ask about it) as well as a request to Hivolt to do what it takes to fix your food ordering system! I’ve never had a problem at the LGD location, so I have hope. I love what Hivolt is doing and they have always been really apologetic and gracious about the mix-ups, but I really hope we reach a point where I don’t have to be watching the food runner like a hawk every time I order food.

great coffee + best croissant EVER = great place to grab coffee before 1pm Its small but they have some outdoor seating. Nice staff and delicious coffee. But seriously the best croissant i have ever had in my life. I am sure it added 2lbs to be and I don’t want to think about how nonvegan it was.

A great place for a quick, weekday breakfast date. I appreciate their early hours and wide variety of fast and absurdly delicious savory breakfast options.(The muffins and other sweet stuff look plenty good, but I go for eggs and biscuits myself.) I love that they have Counter Culture Coffee — good stuff. They made this small space infinitely more inviting. An excellent addition to the neighborhood.

YES! Since the sad demise of La Boulangerie, I’ve been searching for the perfect Almond Croissant. And Hivolt pulled it off. Sweet, sticky, flaky, yummy… I’m so happy they came uptown!

Of the many spots to grab a cup of joe uptown, this one hits the spot as well as any. Great variety of styles and flavors that is sure to have something for everyone, whether you want a regular cup of coffee or a delicious Japanese style brew. Within the same space is the equally delicious P’s & Q’s which makes for a unique atmosphere of down-home meets modern cuisine. Definitely a winning combination.
