It’s a consignment store so you could or could not get lucky. The selection varies though in my last visit I did find an unreasonable price hike! I also felt some items seemed to have been picked up from the neighboring antique auction house. Nonetheless, you can get lucky with some pieces. The owner however is selectively courteous and/or helpful. Your luck if your fit her criteria of a viable customer or sometimes even viable person! Not a friendly or helpful saleswoman/owner.

*This is a review of the consignment part of the store* With all of the stuff we had to clear and get rid of during a recent«clean out» we knew that trying to sell things on our own wouldn’t be out only option. After doing some research, Heirloom Furnishings seemed like a good place to sell some things that we had no need for. I personally sold jewelry here. The owner went through every piece and picked out what she thought would sell, priced it and before I knew it it had been sold and she had a check for me. While some pieces took a few months to sell, others sold pretty quickly and I was pleased with the way that she decided to price things. Of course, because it’s consignment, the owner does take a percentage, but it’s a small price to pay considering it would take longer for you to sell the stuff on your own.

On a recommendation from a friend, I consigned a piece of furniture to Heirloom. I was never provided me with a contract for the piece, never informed of their policies and never told about their turnover time frame. After a lengthy period of time without any communication, I called Heirloom to inquire about my item. I was rudely informed that my piece had been donated and further told that it was my fault for not following up and that it was not their responsibility to call owners and inform them of their policies or when items would be disposed of. Furthermore, when I asked about the tax write off for the donation I was told that it was not their job to get a receipt from the unknown charity, that it was my responsibilty to track it down. Although the piece wasn’t outragiously expensive it was unique and sentimental. I can stomach the money lost but what makes me sick is the shoddy treatment I received when I tried to follow up.

With all of the obscenely overpriced antique stores in the French Quarter, Heirloom, might be worth a stop if you care about your pocketbook. It’s a large space with some nice pieces — dining room tables, chairs, couches, buffets, china, art work… you know. There was nothing that we «had to have» and ship back east, but we didn’t regret the trek either.

A stunning array of vintage/antique furniture, pillows, knick knacks and art! I just stopped in for the first time yesterday to see if there might possibly be a couch that I adored and could afford(a rare thing, unfortunately. Damn my expensive taste!) I thought I’d just take a minute while my friend(wo)manned the Uhaul but of course I found myself lost in the loveliness. I set my eyes on my new couch immediately and was amazed by the price tag. Still, I couldn’t help myself but keep looking around, taking in all the fabulosity. I wish I knew more about antiques so I could tell you that yes, they have Queen Anne chairs(this much, I know), but I could also tell you about the carved wooden bed, or the elaborate fainting couch or the rose velvet lounge that I plan on going back and getting if it’s still there(they do layaway, if you don’t want to take the risk). The best part? Turns out the couch I had picked due to its almost perfect condition was also on sale for 20% off! Staff is incredibly nice and helpful, too. Looking forward to returning and updating this review!

This is one of those — «I’ve been gonig here for years, and I haven’t reviewed it?!» places. I really love this store and the owners are so friendly and willing to chat, like many in this city. The inventory is always different when I go in, and if something doesn’t sell, then they do a percent reduction of the price. They have everything from new and old jewelry to furniture. One artist(Jean Marc Clouet) paints from photographs and then sends his finished work from Europe. You can even have your own photo sent to him, and they’re pretty reasonably priced for all that. See their website under«Original Art» for the pricing and estimated shipping information. Whether it’s new or old, dishes, artwork, or furniture you’re looking for, you can be green and reuse a great piece in your place instead of buying new mass-produced items that look like what everybody else has anyways.
