Halpern’s Furniture

There isn’t a furniture store that can compare to Halperns. I bought a sofa 27 years ago from there and just replaced it with another one. That’s a long time!!! We love our new sofa and chairs we bought! EVERYONE at Halperns is friendly, professional and so easy to work with. Any bad reviews are just people being impatient. This is an awesome place to buy furniture, and reasonable too!

I have been a customer for 20+ years. I bought my first «adult» sectional sofa from Halperns. When it was the one piece of furniture destroyed by Katrina (I was fortunate to only have roof damage) I replaced it with a leather sectional that I absolutely love. I have purchased all of my contemporary furniture from Halperns and I have been happy with everything. Some furniture is now more than a decade old and looks as good as the day I bought it. Beyond the quality of the product I love working with a family owned, locally owned business where, even if a few years pass, I am remembered whenever I return and I like working with Jack because I always feel that he is working with me. The lagniappe: most of the furniture is locally made. I encourage you to make this your first stop when shopping for furniture; good product, locally owned and locally made. In my book that’s a triple bottom line.

I am the happy owner of a gorgeous bed and dresser from the New Orleans collection that was locally made, delivered and set up without a scratch! The delivery team even returned to reposition the bed. Barbara was helpful, energetic and definitely not a pushy salesperson on my first visit to the store. I have enjoyed their well– made furniture at my sister ‘s home for several years which is the reason I chose Halpern’s.
I give the store 4 stars because there was quite a long delay from placing my order and paying half the price and finally having that first wonderful night’s sleep while gazing lovingly at the dresser. I was aware it could take awhile due to rain and humidity affecting the paint etc, but I didn’t feel forewarned that it would be a little over 2 and a half months. I called several times after the 7 week mark and was told that it would be ready soon, one more week. Actually the bed was ready at my first phone call, but the dresser required more time. I was the one to call them and learn that it was ready and when did I want it delivered. I am very pleased but will know to expect a long wait next time.

STUNNINGLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I have bought several pieces of furniture from Halpern’s and while I have low expectations of customer service this has far exceeded my standards. I have literally had to THREATEN to cancel the order to get a written copy of my invoice and receipt for items ordered total for which exceeds $ 4000. I am left to believe that they do not value repeat business AT ALL so beware. Also note that the boiler plate language on the invoice is totally for the BENEFIT of Halpern’s and not the customer.

Loved the store until recently. I bought a couple of pieces from them several years ago– good quality, nice service. My dog chewed up a back pillow to the sofa I have and I went in for a replacement. I asked about replacing it and they «looked» into it for weeks until I came back in. I then ordered it an paid for it. It’s now been 4 months and I have no replacement. I call every couple of weeks and get «soon» or «a week or two» and a «we’ll call you» and the never get a phone call. The only update I get is if I stop in and/​or call – no apology, no anything. Given it’s a local store, I would have continued to give them all my furniture buying business as I move into a bigger place, but this bad customer service makes me think otherwise.

I have bought several pieces from Halpern’s and will return. Being that I live in a New Orleans home, narrow stairs and ornate woodwork make for a tight squeeze. The owner, Jack, worked with me to design pieces that would suit my home and myself perfect.
As I write this review, I am reclining on my beautiful, brand new, custom sofa, that famously feels like «Jesus himself stuffed this couch with teddy bears, clouds and rainbows!»

I’ve purchased a couple of pieces from Halpern’s including a sofa that was supposed to be delivered the week of Aug.29, 2005. Oh well I eventually got a replacement Jan.2006 which I consider EXCELLENT service all things considered.
Much of the wooden furniture is made by their woodworking folks, so you can customize to your hearts content.
The only reason they don’t get 5 stars is that they are still filing all their orders on paper and are not computerized at all. I know, hard to believe, but it’s true. It makes it hard to ask questions about your order as they have to find the actual paper order.
