The chair tables could be more eating friendly. Love the drink(I can be a lush when baby free). Seats are comfortable, and nothing beats reserved seating, hence no line. Food is acceptable, satisfying.

It was great to eat and watch a movie! Service was great! The food it’s brought to you at your theatre assigned seat on real plates with real silverware.

Ugh… why isn’t this place better!?! I love the Canal Place Theaters and I love what they’re trying to do here but they are so missig the mark. The food just isnt that good and most of it is akward to eat in a dark theater. I don’t want to order a grilled tuna salad, but why not try a fancy hot dog or some fancy nachos. And why on earth would I want to order just a cheese plate or just a meat plate. Offer a mix/match plate where I can get both! And why are you always out of the alcohol we want to order?

Although a tad overpriced, the wine and food(hummus & tzatziki plate) were just fine, but the waitress was unfriendly and inattentive, walking by us several times without checking in, even after we stated we’d be ordering food when she served our wine. When we finally spoke up to ask to order after her 4th or so time of walking by, she paused for a moment with her back to us as if she was looking for composure to get through the tedious task of doing her job. Later when we requested our check she walked away and chatted with co-workers at the end of the bar for a while before going to the register. When she brought the check my friend asked how her day was going(also to determine how much tip was in order) but the attempt went very noticeably unwelcome. Our future shopping sprees will rewarded with drinks and dinner elsewhere.

How can you not be a fan of this place. It offers fancy cocktails at the mall… AND at the movies. And it has delicious food too. I like that they offer a cocktail of the day. I must admit that I’ve only ever used their table service and not their theater service. I think it would be difficult for clumsy me to eat in the dark while watching a movie. I would wear most of my food. I do think the food prices are a bit high, but their drinks are comparable to other upscale spots. My most recent purchase was a crabmeat & watermelon salad with a mojito. Perfect for a tough day of shopping on a hot day.

Ordered via the theater– one beer and one water served in a whiskey glass. The beer, overpriced. The water, worth the price(free). Despite moral qualms with this theater that was one good tiny glass of water after sipping on hostel tap water all week. Aided in swallowing my birth control pill when i realized what time it was as the movie began. My partner was indifferent but thought the name of the restaurant was lacking.

Canal Place Theaters was great when it first opened after the initial renovation. Gusto had an interesting menu for a movie theater. However that was well over two years ago and the novelty has worn off. Gusto has not changed their menu in over two years. The menu is totally stale and boring. The food is absurdly overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. They have something like 4 salads, 4 sandwiches and 4 pizzas as the only food of substance. All will set you back around $ 15, but will not fill you up. The $ 15 cheese plates and salumi taste as if they were picked up at a Kroger or even Walmart. Even the move theater staple, popcorn, is miserable here. The portions are small and the popcorn is constantly stale… tossing some truffle powder on it does not eliminate the staleness Despite having a very limited menu, they are often out of main items(meatball sliders) or the items come out ill prepared(pizza margherita). Seeing a movie at Canal Place is just not worth it anymore. The screens ares mall, the sound system is inadequate and the waiters walk in front of you constantly. The tickets and food are really expensive and not worth it. This place is not very good and a total rip-off. Instead of spending $ 100+ at Canal Place for Gusto, go eat at a real restaurant(Iris, Coquette, Domenica, Borgne, Bistro Daisy, La Petite Grocery… etc) with that money and rent a movie or go to one of the Palaces. I promise you will have a much better experience.

I was amused to be able to order food and delicious beer from a comfortable movie theater chair. I got the pizza thinking Adolfo, having several other Italian restaurants was going to take care of me. The crust was worthless and pizza was drenched in cheese. Terrible. The gourmet popcorn and olives were fabulous. It’s a lot of fun ordering real food in a theater.

Gusto serves food to the patrons of the Canal Place Theater, and they also have an on site café, I have been to the theater a few times since it reopened and have tried the food and wine from Gusto every time, some hits and some misses, prices are very high, but they can do that because it is your only option. It is a nice service where you can go to a movie, and share some small plates and a bottle or two of wine.
