Review #400. I wanted my 400th review to be of a peaceful spot. For me, City Park is a very peaceful spot, and despite the history of the Dueling Oak being where people came in the somewhat distant past to settle disputes, to me it represents age, wisdom and peace. All of the oak trees in the area are old, and to me represent the long standing of being is peaceful, and you can’t leave a lasting impact if you are short lived. This is not your shooting star, this is the friend that you come back to share your memories with. I am grateful for the Dueling Oak and the history it provides. Oh to see the things that it has seen would be amazing, to live in it as a tree nymph and observe the world.

Since the Dueling Oak in City Park have been mentioned in our talk threads, I remembered that I was going to add a listing for this AMAZING old tree. Just to the left(as you face the gates) of the Sculpture Garden in City Park, stands this magnificent tree. Even if it didn’t have an interesting history, the tree itself is a beauty. In the mid-19th century, this was the site of duels(supposedly) because it was a bit out of town and honor could be defended without others getting involved. There used to be a pair of oaks but one was destroyed in a hurricane in the 1940s. I’m grateful that this 300 year old behemoth is still standing…
