Earth Day at The Botanical Gardens: Living Green in New Orleans

Beautiful evening at the Botanical Gardens! Thanks for getting me to head over UnilocalNOLA!
The traffic was pretty ridiculous as the hordes were descending to picnic for the LPO across the street on the great lawn. But I managed to score a parking place (AND make someone’s day when I left before the concert). The tent with Earth Day businesses was a bit warm but had a great variety of businesses and green products. The rangers from the Barataria Preserve were impressed with the bunny pics from the week before.
There were crafts for kids (or kids at heart but I resisted) and food trucks for hungry tummies and even mint juleps for sale (with mint grown in the gardens).
Best of all was the chance to wander the Botanical Gardens at dusk. They’ve done a great job of bringing plants back from this unusually cold (for NOLA) winter. The flowers are blooming and it’s all just lovely. I even snuck my shoes off to walk in the grass barefoot.
