OK. I have to say I love the décor. Real down-home. It’s not in a touristy area, and that’s a plus, too. Regarding the sandwiches, well, honestly, I’ve had better. I had a roast beef which was saturated with gravy. It was pretty big, It was good, but I guess I was expecting more. maybe I shoulda had a shrimp. Next trip to Nawlins, I’ll go elsewhere.

Damnit. I feel like I picked a lot of the«wrong choices» during our culinary tour of New Orleans. The catfish po’ boy sounded so good but, alas, I shouldn’t have gotten the fish. There was one thin piece of fried fish on each side of the bread($ 11.5 small). That was it. Whereas the rest of the sandwiches were OVERFLOWING with protein. If two or three of those bad boys were on each half of my small catfish sandwich, I would have been in heaven. The bread was perfectly flaky and the mayo and lettuce weren’t overbearing. They have hot sauce at the table so you can pour it on bite by bite. Justin got the large half-n-half(oysters and shrimp; $ 18 large) and oddly, it wasn’t mixed. It was literally shrimp on one side and oysters on the other. I don’t like oysters but the shrimp side was sooooo good. I should have gotten shrimp. There were so many shrimp on it that they couldn’t be contained and were falling out of the sandwich. We also got the debris fries($ 5) — potato wedges with roast beef. Prices are ok considering how much meat you get(except for the fish) so definitely worth it. And there was a military discount — they said 20 percent but 10 percent was taken off so not quite sure how much the discount was supposed to be. The best part of this hole-in-the-wall place is that they fry everything to order. Your sandwich is guaranteed to be fresh.

I had found this place on lonely planet, it not in a tourist area and I appreciated that local vibe. I tried the oyster and shrimp po boys, I’m not gonna knock down any stars for not liking the oyster po boy, because I just prefer oysters raw and this didn’t do the trick, but the shrimp was delicious, one of the best I’ve had. The bread was fresh, shrimp was fried perfectly, they use a ketchup mixed with hot sauce along with lettuce, mayo, and pickles. We washed this down with an Abita Amber on tap, which was great in the frozen glass they pour it in.

My second visit to this eatery. The first was 5 stars this time around only 2 stars. There reputation is very good however they knew business was going to be booming with all of the Sugar Bowl fans in town. Don’t compromise quality for cash. The grease needed changing thus the Po boys had a distinct after taste of old grease – Not good!

Great poboys! Kinda weird how you pay for food & drink separately. Will be back for another roast beef or shrimp! Great bread.

The shrimp po-boy dressed is the best in the city in my opinion. I’ve no idea what’s in the hot sauce, but it makes the sandwich just right.

Oyster Po’Boy, dressed, a beer and some Zapp’s chips — they just remodeled the kitchen so it tastes even better. The bread is what makes the first Part of the bite so delicious. Add the«dressed»: pre-mix of Crystal sauce, some Waite sauce to even it out and shredded lettuce — enough said.

Domilise is your local spot in uptown for some po boys. On our first day at Nawlins, we made sure to stop by here first before heading to our condo. It was pouring rain but that didn’t deter us from getting a po boy. We ordered half shrimp half oyster split in 4. Bread was crusty yet not hard but more chewy. Shrimp & oyster had good batter. It was a no frill sammich and it was really good. They also have a bar with couple draft beers and some soda bottles. For our first meal, this place made sure we got off to a good start. Yay for Domilise! :)

Anyone see that South Park that makes fun of Unilocalers? I kind of agree with it. I’m gonna spare any fake food critic info. Just gonna say the shrimp and oyster po boy is the boss. Had another po boy in denver when I got back cuz I craved one so badly. It made me sad. Wanted this one. And a guy wearing an N64 tshirt sporting a slick mullet made up my Sammy. I’ll be back. You should make the journey here too.

Domilese’s a quaint restaurant nestled in uptown New Orleans where myself and a friend had the opportunity to visit. When I arrived, their were three(3) ladies behind the sandwich counter-two were preparing sandwiches for people in the restaurant and one was frying seafood. One of the ladies who was preparing orders left the restaurant while I was standing at the counter only to return approximately twenty(20) minutes later with bread in a brown paper bag. After approximately twenty five(25) minutes later, the lady who I was standing in front of at the counter asked, may I take your order(she apologized for the wait) whereas my friend and I ordered the a shrimp sandwich. Approximately fifteen(15) minutes later our orders were ready. While we were eating two(2) caucasian policemen came into the restaurant whereas the lady who was frying the seafood immediately came and took the orders for the above referenced policemen. I would like to think that their behavior in this instance was not intended too discourage Black from visiting the restaurant but, it leaves one to wonder. Given my experience at this establishment, I will not visit again nor will I recommend this restaurant to my friends. With that being said, let’s get to the food. The shrimp sandwich i had was bearely ok-shrimp were not backed/gutted –bread was not lite and chrispy and in my opinion not worth the trip. I visited this restaurant on 10/30/2015 and I did not write my review until 11/02/2015 whereas I pondered long and hard as too weather I should write a review regarding this situation. It is my sincere hope that the owner/owners read this review and take the necessary corrective action

Saw this on Best Sandwiches in America with Adam Richman and the sandwich is pretty good. That bread! Same 4 nice ladies working here and manning the entire place. Kudos to them. Slow service but great sandwiches. Roast beef & swiss was so good

Great ambiance. But why would you put ketchup on an oyster po’boy? Overall the place is very working class but that’s ok. The staff are all characters.

Today is the 10 year anniversary of Katrina, so I decided to spend the day doing happy New Orleans things. One of the things on my list was to have a poboy at Domilise’s. I had been wanting to try this place forever, and I figured today was as good a day as any, and I am always happy to support a small local place. I stopped in around 2, figuring I would beat the lunch rush. I was very wrong. The long line told me that I wasn’t the only one who had the idea of eating here today. I saw a free spot at the bar, ordered a drink and the bartender told me to take a number by the door and wait to be called. After waiting a few minutes, my number was called and I ordered a small dressed shrimp poboy. I sat at the bar and waited, and after about 10 minutes my number was called again, I got my food, the lady asked how many drinks would be on my tab(2), I paid and went back to the bar to eat. With me so far? Great. The«small» poboy was indeed small, but it was packed with shrimp on really fresh bread and dressed to perfection. I was really hungry, so it didn’t take me long to polish this thing off. While I wouldn’t say it was the best shrimp poboy I have ever had, it was quite tasty and the shrimp were fried to crispy perfection. A couple of notes: yes, the place is a no frills dive. The bar is packed with people who live in the neighborhood, there are pictures of regulars on the wall, and other«knick knacks». It’s not fancy by any means, but when the food is good that doesn’t matter. The prices are a little steep. I completely understand that this is a family business, and they have to keep the lights on, but $ 12 for a small shrimp po boy? Whoa! My entire lunch cost $ 20 before tip. I didn’t mind paying that today, but that’s not something I would do on the regular. The staff is extremely nice and the bartender was attentive and checked on me every few minutes to make sure that I had everything that I needed. All of the ladies cooking were nice as well and super patient with the crowd. I liked it here. The people are nice and the food is good. I probably wouldn’t trip over myself to return, but if someone suggested this place for lunch, I would definitely not fight them on it.

This place is one of those local gems that has remained special because it remains authentic. No pretense, no hip vibe, just legit local food. There were three in our party and we all had different types of Po’ Boys. Everyone was quite pleased with their choices. I had the Shrimp and Oyster Po’ Boy, and it was OUTSTANDING. The shrimp was battered and fried just right and the French bread was on point. They have a small bar inside, so I was able to wash my huge sandwich down with an Abita Seersucker Summer Pilsner served up in a heavily frosted goblet. Bam! I have had several dining experiences in New Orleans, mostly in the French Quarter and the Garden District. This is the only place where I felt like I was having an experience that one could only have in New Orleans. Good stuff at reasonable prices, given the ingredients they use and the amount of food they serve you.

My husband and I have to visit each time we are in NOLA. We normally go during the week, so we don’t really have to deal with the lines. When you arrive head up to the food counter, they have a huge sign with options and prices. Any questions, just ask the folks behind the food counter. They are always helpful. Then head over to the bar and order a drink. Love that they have cold Barq’s root beer in the glass bottle! :) Then grab a seat! Our favorite is the shrimp poboy and the roast beef and swiss poboy. I like them fully dressed, but they will fix it the way you want it. A «small» is two large pieces and a «large«is three large pieces.

I was never a fan of po-boys until we made our way uptown to sample Domilise’s famed shrimp po-boy. Yes, the line is long and slow, but that’s because the folks who work the kitchen do everything made-to-order. They were hustling the entire time we were there, but still managed to patiently answer newbie customers’ questions. Our mouths were watering as we watched them fry up a generous portion of shrimp for our sandwich.(I say«we» and«our» because my husband and I split a large po-boy, which was more than enough for two people.) We then snagged a table where we enjoyed the delicious commingling of crispy, flavorful shrimp, ketchup kicked up a notch with Tabasco, mayonnaise, lettuce and tomato. The bread was the only downside. We went late in the day, so perhaps that explains the slight staleness we experienced. If we had unlocked the secret chamber in our stomach to make room for a second po-boy, the roast beef looked pretty amazing. A few pointers: Pull a number from the basket when you walk-in, keep an eye on the tables to see if you can grab one as someone else finishes because there isn’t much seating, and order drinks at the bar if you’re in the mood for an adult beverage with your meal.

The two TV foodie personalities I trust the most, Anthony Bourdain and Adam Richman both led me here. This place is supposed to be the best shrimp po boy(or maybe any po boy for that matter) in New Orleans. Which would pretty much make it the best po boy in the entire world. Though I haven’t had as many as most folks I think Domilise’s lives up to the hype. It is the perfect shrimp po boy. The dressings go together perfectly and that bread! Holy shit that bread that you can only get in New Orleans because of the humidity there. The bread MAKES this thing! Crispy on the outside and sooo soft on the inside! Everything combines to explode with flavor. I love the neighborhood feel of the place. Just a little shack with a few tables and a bar. The employees were very friendly. The lady serving up the finished po boys at the counter was really fun to talk to. My father mentioned how I was taking him to all the best spots of New Orleans and she asked if I could take her. I laughed and told her«you work at one of the best! I’m jealous.» Very friendly service. I eat a lot while I’m in NoLa and this was one of the best experiences I’ve had. You just can’t beat that damn sandwich!

Love these local neighborhood institutions. My friend brought me here; she grew up in the area and said this is THE spot where everyone went to hang out. I asked the owner what the most popular item is– shrimp po’boy is it! Good flavors and contrasting textures. Throw in some Zapp chips(spicy cajun crawtators), and we got a meal. 5 stars for mom and pop establishments that span generations. Love the local decorations and photos. It’s clear this isn’t a tourist trap, and it’s the real deal.

Nice atmosphere but the po’boys leave something to be desired. I had the half and half seafood which is half shrimp and half oyster. I didn’t think the bread was particularly good(though I hear most places in town use one of two bakeries), not enough crust compared to others. Both shrimp and oysters were heavily breaded with little taste. Barqs in a bottle was pretty nice… With drink, my order was about $ 20 which is pretty expensive for being outside of the French Quarter.

Domilise’s poboy shop is totally trying to steal my heart. I’d let him have it glady and never stray with another poboy shop in the city, if it weren’t for but a few minor details. First the good. I ordered my usual shrimp Poboy and it was great. The shrimp were seasoned to perfection and plentiful. The batter was just right… not too thin, not too thick. If you order it dressed they put ketchup and Tabasco on it along with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and mayo. Hello!?! You had me at Tabasco. They don’t put too much on it, just a dab. In fact, I had to add more ketchup and a lot more Tabasco on it. but I appreciate that they already know that Tabasco and ketchup on a shrimp Po boy makes it freaking spectacular. Kudos to you Domilise’s. I also love the fact that they split their poboys into three quarters instead of half. Also love the divey and casual atmosphere here and looking at all of the New Orleans memorabilia on the walls. Speaking of New Orleans, behind the bar there’s a Manning shrine. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a Saints girl all the way. But you better believe if Peyton or Eli are playing(and it’s not against us) I’m rooting for my New Orleans boys. And who doesn’t love Archie Manning? Now for the not so good. It’s very small in here. There are only 5 four top tables. There’s seating at the bar, but probably no more than ten barstools. I can imagine it gets very crowded. The other thing? It ain’t cheap. A whole shrimp poboy was $ 15. Come again? You heard right. $ 15! That’s outrageous. I mean that Shrimp poboy was good but it wasn’t THAT good. Like my friend pointed out, that’s just a few dollars less than the three course price fixe menu for lunch at many of our upscale restaurants here in New Orleans. Sigh. So while I have found one of the best shrimp poboys in New Orleans, it would put a serious dent in my wallet to eat here as often as I now want to. *sob* The search continues for the perfect shrimp poboy at the perfect price. Stay tuned friends.
