hmmmm… within reach. I guess those words mean different things to different people. I LOVE the furniture and furnishings here. I just wish they were a little more in reach. DwR is a National chain and offers designer pieces at more modest prices. So I get that their prices are much less than what you could pay for a designer original BUT. So some pieces aren’t ridic but, of course, those aren’t the ones I want as much. One day I’ll do more than window shop…

If you’re looking for the iconic furniture you see in movies, magazine ads, and modern art museums, welcome to the only place in New Orleans you can get it. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Google the Eames Recliner, Saarinen Tulip Armchair, Barcelona Chair. Do they look uncomfortable to you? Visit the DWR studio on Magazine, have a seat, and then stand corrected. Their clean lines and geometric disguise the designers’ careful attention to the human form. The designs here aren’t exactly«within reach» financially, rather, the WR in DWR is a response to the idea that access to the work of acclaimed designers should be kept a trade secret. Because of this store, it’s easy to imagine(and also budget for) making this upscale stuff part of your life. I did! A couple of summers ago I decided to redesign my room. I knew that if I was careful, I could make enough room in my budget for a $ 250 Panton Chair. Even though I was a sweaty, paint-covered mess, the staff was friendly and helpful before, during, and after the purchasing process. The stuff there is expensive(think $ 80 to $ 9000 for a chair), especially the licensed reproductions, but there are some DWR in-house designed products that are surprisingly affordable. There are also numerous sales and promotions that take place over the course of the year, so my advice is to pick out what you want, sign up for the newsletter, then purchase when you find out that particular item is 15% off. However, when you decide to drop your money on that shag rug you’ve been eyeing, be prepared for some long shipping times– between 1 – 4 weeks. Some of this stuff has to be shipped from Europe, so it’s not like you can leave the same day with your purchase, even if what you want is in the store. Be sure to check how shipping costs affect the pricetags for the items you want. The staff’s more than happy to discuss all kinds of options with you: different sizes, shapes, colors, price ranges, anything to make you feel confident in whatever decision you ultimately make. I remember specifically that one of the sales people offered to let me borrow one of the display pieces for a few days so I could be sure it looked right in my space. As long as you’re sure a particular item is worth the price and wait, you won’t be disappointed. Peace!
