This event started off pretty slow and then picked up a lot more momentum as the night progressed. There was good music aplenty and some great costumes. The beer selection was typically terrible and disappointing as usual for the Sugarmill venue. They definitely put a lot of time and effort into decorating the place and if you had to endure the Mayan apocalypse anywhere this was the best spot to do it in style.

Only in New Orleans would people celebrate the end of the Mayan long count calendar by throwing a giant 14 hour music festival. While the weather was a bit cold the bands were red hot. The two stages were set up nicely, just far enough apart to make it like two separate events, both with lots of room to gather and get down. And the acts were organized well enough that each stage offered something different to listen to. I wasn’t at all impressed by Sugar Mill charging a lot for beer, but that’s a fault of the venue, not the festival itself. At least the food vendors were reasonably priced and the taco stand was fantastic. Overall a great day and evening. Too bad we won’t see the end of a Mayan calendar every year.

A cold night. Perfect for dancing. I was outside for most of the evening but the music poured freely(and so did the beer from the crafty little Bar2D2!) Quintron and Miss Pussycat were a perfect edition to this festival. I’ve only seen them at the Spellcaster Lodge and it was a real treat to have a little elbow room! I’ve never been to an event like this in New Orleans. Although not an active trekkie, I feel like I was raised on USS Enterprise. No Bloody A, B, C or D. Seriously. My parents force fed me. It was lovely to meet the Krew of Chebaccus and I can’t wait to see them again for Carnival!

It was fun and different from hanging out in French Q. Everyone was wearing

I thought it would be a bit busier but the crowd was fun and I met lots of fantastic people. Given that it was also an excuse to wear a wig, it wasn’t a bad way to celebrate the possible end of the world.

pretty good time here — Clockwork Elvis, Hot 8, Alex McMurray, and QUINTRON. Sugar Mill was a good venue for this and surprisingly the two stages were just far enough away to become two different venues. Great fun-loving people to enjoy the silliness of the day. The $ 65 minimum cover was a little steep for a New Orleans event(there were tons of other great gigs going on Friday night), at least the drinks weren’t outrageously priced.

So my ass is pretty much gone from dancing it off. My face & socks were both rocked off as well. Quintron & Ms P played a really fantastic show & Ghostland brought it all in at the end with sick beats & colorful lazers that made my brain shake. I refuse to say anything bad about this night because thanks to Wtul we got hooked up with free tickets, VIP! The orange wristbands entitled us to glowing chairs, an R2D2 keg, & Jambalaya. I didn’t mind that it was freezing cold outside. We just got all sweaty dancing then cooled off in the courtyard area with a cold brew & chatted with folks in elaborate Mayan costumes. There were also aliens, goths, a few bananas, and wigs of every shade of the rainbow. We proudly dragged our drunken asses out at 2 am sporting our new Unilocal Life fingerless gloves and stickers that said«Worst Apocalypse Ever.» But at that point wouldn’t have minded if the world came to an end, I would have gone out happy!

WEARESAVINGTHEWORLD. Bands, acrobats, goths, geeks, party animals, hot chicks. It’s all here with brew, food and a perfect amount of Wierd. Even with The Man hanging out for our safety, this place is rockin. Giorgio has the right idea: Party so the world doesn’t end.
