The Brisket was excellent, and the atmosphere of the bar is great. The pulled pork is dry and without flavor.

Just had Black Label cater a party on Sunday and the reviews were amazing! Black label is doing some of the very best BBQ I have ever had! Food was wonderful, well presented and a great value! Don’t miss this place for the best BBQ in town! I have also spent some time at the location and I find the service and the food to be top notch! If you are a BBQ fan, a beer fan, and a music fan, check this place out!

BLUF: Cool bar in a location you wouldnt expect. Cool rustic feel inside. They have bands which is awesome. Good beer selection and fun beer/shot specials. We went for a fundraiser and got the bbq plate which from my understanding is not every night.(we went on a saturday). It was not very good. Coleslaw had no base and was inedible in my opinion. It tasted like a shredded salad. The sausage was great; but the pulled pork had bones and the brisquet was more than 50% fat. I liked the bar and the servers. I’d eat somewhere else first though.

This place is very underrated. By far the best smoked chicken wings I’ve ever had! And the sauce was on point! Our first time in new orleans and we can say, next time we visit again, we’ll be back for the excellent food!

I’ll start this review by saying– don’t judge a book by it’s cover. This place is kinda in the hood. I wouldn’t often casually venture over into this neighborhood – but when I’ve got the hankering for smoked meats, live music, or delicious bloody marys, this is where I go. The first time I was here was right before a Saints game. We stopped in for some drinks and pork! I had a Bloody Mary, which was housemade(awesome) and was really flavorful and perfect. Our bartender was so sweet and chatted us up a bit. We ordered some sandwiches and ribs. SOGREAT. there was nothing left over after we had our way with em. The pickles they serve on the side are amazing. During this whole experience, there was awesome old country and rock music playing. Like good country and rock, not the lame kind… The second time I called to order some food to go. Guy on the phone was really helpful and friendly and food was ready quick. They have live music on the weekends and during the week. Check it out. Overall, great BBQ, friendly staff, cool atmosphere. Don’t let the neighborhood throw you off.

You standard New Orleans dive bar. This place used to be called Pops, but it was recently bought out. It’s pretty nice. They have excellent burgers that they grill out in front of the store. The crowd varies greatly. It’s not in a bad area, but it isn’t the most eye pleasing area. You will not feel uncomfortable at all here. The bartenders are knowledgable about the drinks and food, and it’s very clean. There is a ton of space here for group get togethers. I have a friend who lives right by this bar, and whenever she has get togethers we stop by. Ask for Reggie!(he doesn’t exist, it’s the name of burger– we call the cowboy hat wearing bartender Reggie)

This is by far my favorite BBQ spot in New Orleans. A great addition to the Central City neighborhood. Steak night on Wednesday includes a mouthwatering 8 oz ribeye grilled to perfection by the bearded and beloved Damien, paired with a side of DUCKANDPIGFAT«when pigs fly» fries. Jap poppers are like crack. They have free live music and a great group of bartenders. You’ve got to check this spot out! P. s. Ladies night is every Thursday! $ 3 daqs ladies, is anything better?

This was a hidden gem that I just discovered. Came for Wednesday night steak night and was not disappointed! The steak was great and the fries are by far the best I’ve had in the city. Also, a very nice local draft beer selection.

Yeah, I’m so confused, too, because all the ratings for this kick-your-ass bar are from its pre«brick and motar»(believe me, I hate that term, too) days. And like duhhhhh that place barrel proof is wicked«eh». Their new establishment – might I be the first to comment on the new location??? – is down right rocking. Solid business. Food was outstanding! And the sandwich was sloppy and the beer delicious and ice cold. Heaven. Glorious beards – everyone has beards. It’s like you died and went to heaven and all the best death metal bands made kicking meats. I did feel impotent sitting at the bar, however; not quite sized right for me… I hope someone laughed at that self deprecating joke. Still, sweet bar. Lots of seating, tvs, nice minimalist vibe to the décor, you know, all around mad chill atmosphere. Give it a few years to get more grungy. I wasn’t nearly as worried about getting tetanus while resting my elbows on the bar as I do when they are soaked in beer/vomit/beer-vomit at Ms Maes. Place was basically sparkling clean, despite the fact that is pretty dark inside. Which is great. Because I don’t want to realize how long I’ve been in a bar eating things like: 1.) Cowboys from Hell 2.) triple fried fresh cut potato fries lathered in both duck and pork fat. 3.) smoke gator with the skin still on the paws and head 4.) black label sauce The sauce: oooo baby! Spice and sweet, not too thick or thin bone-sucking good. Then drinking local to super-local beers like: 1.) Arpent 40 2.) Gnarly Barley 3.) Santos Btw there is a music stage. Heard there’s going to be lots of punk and heavy metal. Bout damn time! Enough of the ravey bars blasting trap step – we need some grid core, head bashing trash to liven up this uptight Uptown crowd. Also, let’s bring back central-city! Dare I say Renaisaince? Cause I know yall ironic hipster haters out there gon’ be all like«but gentrification blah blah blah». Thanks guys for opening this joint! I hope yall bring many years of fun times and good food to the neighborhood. Excellent all around ice house.

Went here yesterday for the feaux real fest thing which gave me an excuse to check up on this new little place down the street from my house(1 block!). They’ve done a lot of work on the interior and it looks like a BBQ roadhouse of sorts. It’s got a nice little stage and few tvs. They also have a pool table and I believe another game of sorts in the back back. I forgot to see what it was because the main event stared. They were serving a smoked bacon wrapped boudin stuffed gator for the fest. For $ 20 it game with a decent helping of gator, bacon, boudin with a side of jambalaya and Cole slaw. Gotta say it was delicious and I hope they do more cool events like this. Pit master Damien Bruggar(sp) killed it!

First off this business should have a new profile since it is completely different that the previous Black Label BBQ that was located in a bar with a completely different menu. I came to the new BL Icehouse to try the mesquite brisket sandwich and it was exactly what I was looking for, excellent, tender and full of flavor with no sauces needed on sliced white bread. The menu is very small with just a handful of items but what they do have is excellent. Beer prices are affordable too. A $ 2 high life to go with your brisket sandwich and we have a winner.

Stopped by last night for the Wednesday night steak night deal. It was my first time and I was pleasantly surprised. Pretty spartan interior but adds to the charm — metal walls wooden bar — it is definitely the feel they are going for and it works. Quick service good me a well kept beer — Great Raft Southern Drawl Lager — which is always a good start to the evening. The draft beer selection is heavily local and backed by a full bar for those so inclined. The specialty drinks seemed almost entirely beer based so maybe an update is in order. However the purpose of my visit was steak and man did they deliver. $ 12 for a 8 oz ribeye with a side of fries — served quickly and at a perfect medium rare. The steak was delicious and well seasoned but man those fries stole the show — apparently some kind of proprietary animal based dusting after cooking made them absolutely delicious. It was a super indulgent treat but it is an excellent deal and a good reason to come check this place out. I will be back in future to check out the pool table and outside area I spied while I was chowing down.

Paranoid owner insults my review. Thinks I’m another unsatisfied customer. This guy must get a lot of complaints. Won’t be around long treating customers like this. Blue cheese slaw ugh just ugh!

In a world where most people think BBQ means grilling a hamburger, Black Label is a welcome addition to the ever growing Nola BBQ scene. For years the city was a virtual wasteland when it came to legitimate BBQ and now we have a bunch of places to choose from. Black Label bills itself as Texas style BBQ and that is an accurate description. As far as technique, they fire up actual smokers as opposed to some electric smoking rigs used by other area restaurants. Their food is good to very good, but I think other aspects fall a little short. Food Brisket — Very Good. The brisket plate was mostly lean, but it had a great thick smokey taste. If you are unaccustomed to real BBQ, you may find this flavor off putting, but for me, I loved it. Pork — Good. The pork was moist, but not as smokey as the brisket. Jalapenos — Holy Mackerel. The stuffed jalapenos were creamy bites of smokey goodness. I could make a meal solely on these incredible poppers. Whatever you do, make sure you get some of these. Location Black Label is a pop up based in Barrel Proof. Maybe I am getting old or something, but it was pretty dark inside and I was confused about where to order. Once I noticed the host stand at the back left of the bar I figured it out. Because it isn’t a dedicated restaurant, the vibe of the place was a little odd. People were friendly, but it felt like the combination of fancy whisky bar and BBQ joint was a bit forced. Prices I realize that the price of beef has skyrocketed, but I felt like the prices are a little steep. I am no expert in food cost, but brisket at Black Label is around $ 9 – 10 more per pound than other local stand alone bbq joints. Their brisket is very good, but I don’t think it is above and beyond the other places with lower prices. Summary Black Label puts out a good product, but the location and prices detract from the otherwise good product. If I find myself inside of Barrel Proof for some reason I feel sure I will be ordering more BBQ from Black Label. I just don’t know if I will go out of my way to visit.

I had the thin sliced brisket with the blue cheese cole slaw on New Years Eve(see picture) and it was delicious. I like that you can just order it and they will deliver it right to you at Courtyard Brewery. A bunch of us ordered BBQ and it really put our little New Years Eve party over the top. Damien says that he slow cooks the meat and you can definitely tell. It’s melt in your mouth delicious with a lot of flavor and not chewy at all. Right now, Black Label is only a popup inside of Barrel Proof, but I am hoping that they have an actual store front soon.

Those wicked pickles, that smoky brisket and bacon wrapped jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese you say? Count. Me. In. Black Label BBQ fed a few of our Unilocalers at our end of the year bash and ran out of food tout de suite. So fast, in fact, that although I arrived fairly early, it was already devoured by the time I made it to the table. Well, of course I had to see what the fuss was about. We headed there less than a week later. BLBBQ is located inside of Barrel Proof. It’s a pop up but it’s not that easy to find once you’re in there. We had to look around a bit before we noticed it and it’s really dim in there so that makes it challenge. Walk in and head straight back and slightly over to your left you’ll notice the hostess stand where you go right up and order. It’s opposite the bar, if that helps. Place your order and cross over to the bar for a beer(Bloody Mary) and have a seat at one of the many tables. The hostess will then bring out your death by BBQ. I really liked the brisket… the flavor was incredible, but it was a little dry. The poppers were wonderful and my friend stole all but one because they were that good. Those pickles? Sweet Baby Jesus. They were so good. I am not above stalking the chef for that recipe. Ain’t no shame in the wicked pickle game.

Meat Sweats: To consume an obscene amount of meat resulting in perfuse sweating. Refers to an intense build up of perspiration as a result of the excess consumption of meat or meat related products. «Johnny ate 6 lbs of meat at Black Label Barbecue and needs to shower because he has the Meat Sweats» Ever wonder what that delicious aroma is on Magazine? Ever wonder what that delicious aroma is inside Barrel Proof? Its meat. Lots of meat. Smoked for hours, sometimes days. 2 $ taco Tuesdays? Yup. Whole pig roasts once a month? Word. Meat Sweaty BBQ on the weekends? Palabara, amigo.
