Didn’t like my food here. Seaweed salad tasted funny and my sushi roll also wasn’t very good. The fish tasted fresh, but the flavor combination was not nice. I didn’t left over the entire seaweed salad and told them I didn’t like it. They said because they don’t make it in-house that there was nothing they could do and they charged me for it. I will never be back here!!!

Food is good but ordering for takeout or pickup is a pain. Food is rarely ready in the time window they provide and if you get delivered the wrong item, they are difficult to communicate with and fix the error.

This place is small but don’t let that be an understatement. Wait time for 7 people on a Saturday night was totally bearable(in comparison to wait times for nearby restaurants). The waiter came to us every once in a while to update our wait status too. Once seated, we were formally greeted and handed menus. We asked for sake-bombs but they said the don’t serve that, so we made it ourselves! Two orders of beers along with one carafe of house sake makes around 8 servings of sake bombs costing less than $ 4 each if we divide it up. We shared some japanese fried chicken poppers and edamame as appetizers to share and I ordered the chirashi bowl for myself. The appetizers were mediocre(chicken was white meat which is preferred but it was under seasoned and was on the dry side) but the chirashi bowl was amazing. Just the look/presentation was gorgeous. The serving size was on point and most importantly the fish were so fresh and sweet. The rice was very well marinated with seasonings and completely immersed underneath the large amount of fish on top. The waiter made some jokes here and there to keep us entertained while we order endless rounds of sake. Overall, nice little sushi spot for a small group of friends that likes each others company while enjoying good food. Possibility of returning is high!

Yuba is one of the top sushi spots in NYC. It doesn’t have all the Hype and glits that the other spots do but it has some of the highest quality sushi. It’s a quiet little spot in the east village that can hang with the big boys. If you’re looking for top grade sushi then you need to come see Jack, head chef and owner of Yuba. He’s a great sushi chef and overall a nice guy. I’m a fan and I recommend Yuba.

Very nice sushi experience in this small shop in Astor area. Made a day-of reservation for a Saturday night and was not too packed which is convenient. The selection here consists of a lot of great and high quality choices. We decided to try the specialties here rather than the basics, and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Unfortunately, these rolls are a bit pricey and do add up(20+ each for a 4pc) so we ended up spending quite a bit when adding in the sake. Overall, classy place to visit if you want to shell out for some quality seafood, but cannot say I will be visiting too often considering the price tag.

3.5 stars. I was first very hesitate to pay this place a visit because one of my friends didn’t give it a very good review but I thought that I should give this place a chance. It was not a bad idea. I had come with a friend where he ordered the fish bowl and I got the sashimi dinner set. The fish was very fresh. I loved all the white fleshed fish! The only criticism that I have is that the tuna was ehh. I normally love tuna but the tuna here was not that fresh and good. I would definitely come and pay yuba another visit when I have the chance but there are loads of other sushi bars I have to fish around.

Confession: I came here alone to indulge a stubborn salmon sushi craving(very precise). I was expecting it to get crowded quickly around noon on a Sunday, but surprisingly, there were only two other tables occupied when I left. I had salmon on my mind and got plenty of salmon in my belly. I believe what I got was the equivalent of a salmon lover’s meal, though it wasn’t called that. There was salmon nigiri, salmon sashimi, salmon roll, and seared salmon. Gosh, I must’ve inhaled it. I don’t remember sitting there for too long despite the peace and quiet in the relatively empty restaurant. The first bite was silky smooth, which as you know, is the ultimate test of good salmon. They don’t have a lunch menu on weekends, so expect to shell out regular prices, but it’s decently affordable. The waiter was very attentive(not many guests to attend at the time), and I am glad he did not make too much small talk. That tends to happen when you are a lone diner and there aren’t many other guests.

The food here was good in some dishes but not all. We ordered some sushi deluxe, sea urchin, grill squid, beef rolls, tuna tartar and sashimi deluxe. The fish were fresh but the beef roll I don’t really care! The lady who took my ordered was so nice though! Overall it was good experience ! Food 4 Service 5 Cleanliness 5 Ambiance 5 Overall I will rate this place 4.5 stars

I’ve been in this restaurant twice & it never dissapoints me. The place is simple, nice & clean. I went back with my friends last week. We got the edamame & rock shrimp for appetizer. Edamame is edamame but the rock shrimp is slamming! Its a little sweet & the shrimp is crispy. We ordered the spicy roll combo. It has spicy tuna, spicy yellow tail & spicy salmon. It has the spicy flavor & it blends in well with the rolls. For our main dish we did the omakase chef choice. Its super yummy! Fresh fish, all the sauce that they use taste amazing! Service is great! Very attentive & fast. We’ll be back!

Happening to be walking down 9th Street and stumbled upon Yuba. So happy that I did because the meal was excellent. Among the thousands of sushi spots in NYC, this is a must. Delicious, traditional and not overly priced. Sat at the bar and watched the chef’s create their specialities. Have been back since and still a delicious spot. My favorites so far are the Yuzu roll, Rock shrimp canapé and mon amore. But everything we tried was fresh and quite flavorful. Seaweed salad is a great starter. As is the mushroom or clear soup.

Came here at when it opened at 5pm on a Sunday and was the first person there. Decided to do the 16 piece sushi omakase at the bar for 85pp. The first few prices of sushi the rice was overly warm and the fish was really cold and as the pieces went on the rice was warmer but it tasted sticky. The service was weird. The plates we received for the third dish was sitting in front of us for the rest of the meal and we basically had to keep exchanging two plates with the chef starting from piece 4. The chef also spoke very low and after asking him to repeat himself twice I gave up and just ate the piece. Would come back for the regular dishes and probably not omakase again.

First time visiting this place. The atmosphere was nice, typical sushi restaurant, nothing out of the ordinary and food was typical, good but typical. The prices were not bad either. I would go back again.

What a find! Out with my daughter for a 10pm meal and Yuba delivered. We were pretty tired when we arrived and were greeted with friendly staff and warm towels. Started with Miso and dumplings to reenergize. Then a rainbow roll for her and rainbow Naruto and vegan Inari for me. I loved it! They had a great vegan selection. Green tea served by the cup with refills. Worth a visit and we may even return when we visit NYC again. Note about that friendly staff-they were awesome! They were even sweet to the incredibly drunk party of 6 sitting next to us. As they loudly tried to calculate how to split the check, my 11-year old figured it out! Fun for her!

Definitely come for lunch! It’s never crowded and the lunch specials are a great value. You get fresh fish and quality service too. I’ve tried the salmon don(you can ask them to substitute the tekka don for salmon) and maki rolls here before. All were fresh and filling. Complimentary green tea!

Wow! Didn’t expect it to be this good. This whole in the wall place is full of surprises. Great staff and fresh seafood! We started with flame torched salmon with truffle soy sauce. Amazing! We had the special roll Yubi — spicy tuna the wrapped in yellowfin tuna, jalapeño too. Sweet and spicy! Then we had tempura salmon roll amazing too. Then the tuna wasabi. A lighter option to end our binge. Will be back!

*toro tartare(this appetizer was delicious!!! The tartare was fresh and the texture was so smooth; loved the warm, salted rice cracker that’s the vessel for the tartare; the caviar on top added the acidity this appetizer needed; would totally reorder) *black cod(OOOMMMMMMGGGGGGG! this cod was just as luscious any sea bass. soft, flaky, meaty fish; as I was eating, I warm, welcomed and comforted. This is super comfort super on a cold day and it really leaves you wanting more of it at the end. the mushrooms and veggies provided some chew and crunch it needed for a complete dish) This place is small but seating is adequate. Service is great. Food is delicious. I would definitely return to try sushi items but I want another bowl of that black cod!

Came back here last night with a work colleague. Again — arrived on the early side(6-ish) and there was plenty of seating. By 7pm almost every table was occupied. I wanted to upgrade my rating to 5 stars. My colleague eats some sushi but he was in the mood for cooked fare. So, we ordered the soup dumplings and rock shrimp appetizer to start. The soup dumplings are smaller than the ones that I’ve had before but they’re very tasty. The shrimp was off the hook; it was recommended by the wait staff and it’s obviously very popular(as I saw many others getting the same dish). The shrimp is lightly dusted and flash fried… not your typical heavily breaded fried shrimp… just a slight crunch on the outside and no greasiness. The sauce is wonderful… no idea what’s in it, but I could have made a meal of that shrimp. The sauce has a slight spiciness to it. SOGOOD. I also ordered seaweed salad and we shared a small sake. For our main courses, I had sushi and my colleague ordered the braised beef ribs. He absolutely loved it — very rich and it was served over a potato purée. He also tasted some of my sushi and was impressed. I tried a couple of rolls and they were great — just the right amount of rice and fish ratios. I had a few pieces of sushi — tried the uni with a quail egg, sweet shrimp with uni on top(recommended by the cute waiter from last time) and salmon belly with a dab of truffle sauce(again recommended by aforementioned adorableness). Fresh, flavorful and fabulous. I like the low-key atmosphere, super friendly staff and excellent food. Looking forward to coming back again. I’ll be dreaming of that shrimp…

I work in the building next door, so frequently order lunch from Yuba. Their lunch options are tasty and varied. I love the sashimi lunch, though do wish I could specify the fish I want. I know it’s common to do a standard selection, but I can dream! Prices are comparable to other Japanese options, and service is between okay and good. I’d definitely recommend if you’re looking for a decent amount of yummy food at a reasonable price.

Stopped by here on the way to Robataya and on a Uni — craving. I ordered three different types of Uni which were overpriced and not as fresh.(range 7 – 11 dollars). The price of Yuba would be equal to Sushi Yasuda with an average experience.
