First off, this is not a donut shop. I don’t even know why whatever this is called has it’s own Unilocal review. There is a restaurant that is open late(which has its own Unilocal review) but if you want a beer, burger, and a donut at midnight on a Saturday(and who wouldn’t) this place gets it done. But let’s be clear, this is a restaurant, not a donut shop that stays open late baking donuts. I’m still trying to figure out if I was disappointed or not. I mean, I got the fresh baked donuts, but they were served to me on a plate. I think I would have appreciated having that information before travelling across town to try and satisfy a craving.

I’m sorry, but their donuts are overrated. They are very fresh, but I couldn’t taste the chocolate at all, it was barely a hint, all I could taste was the greesy fried dough. Their Brooklyn winter ale was very good, though, and the service is cordial.

5 stars for the donuts but –1 for the weird-ass branding. It was afterdrinks with a buddy and we were figuring out where to go next. ‘Wonder City Coffee & Donut Bar’ popped up and of course, I giddily followed the bouncing blue ball on my Crapple maps. Fortunately, my map app did not do an epic fail, even though I thought it did. ‘Why did this take me to the Brindle Room? This joint does not look like a donut place.’ I walked up and down the block twice and finally asked the Brindle Room people where it was. They replied, ‘Oh, that’s here’ and gestured to some bar looking thing towards the back. I started walking that way but then the hostess seated us at a table. Like formal dining with folded napkins and utensils. I only really wanted to scarf down a donut or something but now that I was being seated, I went ahead and ordered a half dozen. Probably some of the best half dozen donuts I’ve scored. Powdered Sugar, Salted Caramel, and something with Almond. Delectable. But I felt pretty guilty taking up a entire dining table in an East Village restaurant, so I tried to eat as fast as I could and left a 30% tip.(don’t worry my friends, 30% for the cost of 6 donuts is really not that much). Stellar donuts wacky set-up.

I’m sooo happy I finally made it here for the donuts! I just had an amazing salted caramel donut, fresh, warm, covered in sinfully sweet and buttery caramel.mmmm. They’re small, yet the perfect little snack size. can’t wait to get back. Oh, and the coffee is wonderful, thoughtfully made and incredibly fresh. this is a must. get there early before they run out. definitely on the top 5 list of the city’s best donuts.
