A nice surprise. We were on the UES and wanted something«cheap and cheerful» — saw this listed among best cheap eats in the neighborhood and it lived up to its billing. Lunch specials were good value and the food was better than I would have expected.(We got a stir-fried tofu dish and an eggplant dish.) Service was friendly. The one small disappointment was the egg roll that comes with the lunch special.

I only had to be hot and sour soup from this place a couple of times when I worked nearby, it was probably the best hot and sour soup I had on the upper Eastside!

Have been ordering here for a while. Never again. Tonight it took over an hour and it is three blocks away. When we called to complain they did not care and to add insult to injury, the dumpling sauce spilled over everything else. Last time ordering from Wok 88

Delicious food. Fast service. When I order delivery it’s very fast even though I love 11 blocks away. Highly recommended.

This is one of our neighbourhood Chinese restaurants. We went there on a recent Sunday night and we were quite pleasantly surprised at the line of people waiting for takeout and/or tables. We figured that if it was this busy it must be good. We were not disappointed. We had the barbeque ribs to start and I ordered the orange beef but not spicy as I am not a fan of spicy food and my wife ordered chicken and eggplant in a brown sauce. Both dishes were excellent and we would both order them again. The only ding I would give them was that the two main courses came 10 minutes apart. I wanted both at the same time. However, the other friendly patrons made the wait very pleasant. Highly recommended if you want a delicious Chinese dinner at a very reasonable price

The food tastes good, the prices are reasonable, and the location is very convenient. However, the delivery service needs improvement. Although the food arrives quickly, the delivery person always(and I mean always!) complains in broken English about the tip. My last three orders were lunch specials that cost $ 8.50(plus 75 cents tax). Each time I paid $ 11, so I tipped 20% on the base bill. That is certainly generous, considering I live across the street from the restaurant! Maybe if Wok88 paid the delivery staff a bit more, we wouldn’t have to deal with the constant attitude…

I’ve been eating from this place ever since I was a little girl. It is my go to Chinese take out when I am having that craving(which is quite often). I will call and order and in less than 30 minutes they will be at my door delivering my food. I have never had a problem with my order, and they’re always really responsible about my nut allergy. The Steamed Vegetable Dumplings are to die for as well as the Vegetable Lo Mien. They make it ridiculously easy to order too with the fact they save their numbers with your address and you can even put your card on file. Everyone is super friendly and the prices are super affordable.

The portions are really good, but the food is just ok. I got the seafood noodle soup and the seafood just didn’t seem all that fresh. I’ve also had the lobster here and I kind of regretted it too. The staff was nice to me but perhaps it’s because I’m Chinese. I gave this place a chance on more than one occasion but now I’ve had enough. I’d rather get a burger or try a new place than Chinese food from this place because it is just not that good.

Been coming here for years now ever since they were first wok on 78th and lex. I still call in and have them deliver to my dad for him to Bring it home to me. They will always have the best chicken broccoli in garlic sauce ever. And they have the best scallion pancakes I’ve ever had. Lunch special prices are the best, comes with a free can of soda and I absolutely love them.

Don’t order for delivery — 40 minutes equals 60+ Food is luke warm Chinese not hot out of the wok. Scallion pancakes are flat not fluffy as when you order in and don’t ask me about the moo shu pancakes as they are hard as shoe leather by the time you get them. Want noodles for your soup ask 5 times as there’s a remote chance you’ll get them, we didn’t. Condiments 1 little bag for a $ 44.00 order spread the wealth guys a few more little bags of mustard, duck sauce and soy won’t break the bank. Spread that MSG around a little on the UES. Eat in — not out that was my mistake!

We come to this place too often. So much so that when We sit down, the super friendly wait staff bring over our usual glass of wine(free with dinner btw) and a bowl of hot sauce(because I put that shit in everything). Food is good, place is clean, lots of veggie options. And it’s pretty much the only decent joint in the neighborhood where you can get good, healthy fare and wine for 2 people for $ 20.

First Wok used to be the only consistently good Chinese restaurant locally, but sadly that has changed. Food still generally good and fresh but portion size and quality of certain ingredients has suffered. Sometimes chewy chicken(old? Over cooked?), very small portion size(do not bother ordering sesame shrimp — which you pay a premium price for to start! You’ll need an additional lunch), have made me wonder about finding a new«regular» Chinese restaurant. Shape up guys, and I’ll be glad to come back.

This place is right around the corner from me and the convenience factor is def a bonus! It’s a great neighborhood spot and I go at least 2x/week. The food is good, and filled with different textures and ingredients(they’re not stingy with the ingredients). Also, unlike some other chinese take-out places, they actually modify the sauce depending on the dish(no ubiquitous«brown sauce» here!) and the food isn’t overly greasy imo. My favorite items are: hot & sour soup(I think it’s the best I’ve ever had. Chock full of pork, egg, tofu, bamboo shoots, wood ear… I ask for mine extra spicy and it’s SO good!). Any of their seafood dishes — fresh seafood, generous portions, usually in a light white sauce. I like the moo sho pork too. The beef dishes aren’t as good, unfortunately. The beef tends to be a bit dry and stringy so I usually avoid those. It’s not a fancy restaurant and I have only gotten take-out, but I love this neighborhood joint. If you’re looking for tasty and affordable chinese, this place is pretty good!

Busy restaurant with adequate food and sizable portions. I have tried coming here a couple of times since moving across the street about 3 months ago. Surprisingly, last night was the first time I was able to be seated for dinner. This place always seems to be busy, which is great to see for any small local business. Portions were family-sized so my lady and I split the general tso chicken and beef lo mein. The waiter promptly took our order and reminded us that we got a free soda with our meal, which was nice. The food was good. The general tso chicken was on par with most places I’ve tried in the area, and the beef lo mein was enjoyable. There were more than enough leftovers so getting two meals for the price of one is always a plus. I would come back for another meal, but I’m not certain it’s worth a significant wait to sit at the restaurant.

One of my main go to dishes isn’t quite the same anymore. Been ordering from here for a really long time, not sure if the chef changed sometime ago or something else changed, but for quite awhile now the beef fried rice hasn’t been what it was. Was hoping it was just a short term thing, but alas, tis not so. There used to be this, not even sure how to describe it, but a smokey(different from bbq) type of flavor that really set it apart from other fried rice. What happened? :( And recently one of the chicken dishes I ordered had some chicken which had an odd density to it. Was tough, but not overcooked tough(reminded me of this one time I made myself chicken which had freezer burn). Anyways, not sure what’s going on here but things don’t seem quite the same.

I live near here and it satisfies my occasional craving for General Tso’s chicken nicely. The prices are high and the service is average, but hey — the heart wants what the heart wants. It’s American Chinese! Whaddaya expect?

Absolutely disgusting. I figured since I’ve visited this place before a it was okay, they might’ve upped their game up. Boy how I was wrong. It took almost an hour to deliver when I’m only about 5 blocks away. Woman who I ordered on the phone with hung up before I could ask to pay with card. Thankfully I had cash. Ordered General Tso’s chicken and it is beyond soggy. It’s drowning in the sauce and the chunks of chicken are oddly large and just gross. My boyfriend ordered the House Special and he took one bite and tossed it. It’s a shame when you try to support a local business, pay nearly $ 35 for food and throw it all in the trash. There was 0 care taken to cook these meals. As you can see, this is just an entire container of mush.
