This place used to be amazing but after my dinner there last night, I think never again. I asked for medium rare salmon and the first round, it resembled salmon that had been left to bake in the sun, forgotten. The second round wasn’t much better with the edges of the salmon almost too dry to pry apart as it drowned in watery sauce filled with spinach and almost raw garlic chunks. They were nice enough to comp us dessert but if the chef can’t cook fish, it shouldn’t be on the menu. The steak came out lovely but if not for the beer battered onion rings, dinner was a disaster.

I was so surprised that Uncle Jack’s management took my comment so seriously and so urgently, I guess it is not easy to be «New York’s Best Steakhouse», and they are really striving. I am looking forward to our next visit to regain our trust to this Steakhouse.

Sorry, The restaurant that tries too hard and still misses the mark. Stake, sides, desert all below average. And they over sold the food when I specifically said that I wanted a lite dinner

Until tonight, this was my favorite restaurant. No more. I haven’t been since Dec of 2014. What a change for the worse! My salmon was inedible, not fresh. Crab cakes were inedible, not fresh. Creamed spinach was inedible. Not fresh. The bread was good and dessert was good. Ambiance is nice. After they said they would take the crab cakes off the bill, I didn’t have the heart to send the rest of the dinner back. I’ll just write this review instead. Prices went up significantly. Best to eat elsewhere.

West Coast Steakhouse vs East Coast Steakhouse: Ok, I can’t fairly side with West Coast since this is the very first NYC steakhouse I’ve been to. So I’ll just stick to reviewing this place. Oysters were terrific! Even without horseradish to give me that little kick, these oysters were fresh and tasty. They were almost as good as the oysters in Vancouver. The server chose the red wine for me and it was one of the best I’ve had. Not much of a fan of red wine, but I have to admit, this was some good stuff. Went really well with the steak and didn’t leave that usual turbid residue with which red wine seems to coat my tongue. It had a clean taste to it and washed down the greasy taste of the steak pretty well. Here come the negative comments: I’m an ardent steak consumer. Aside from paying bills, a good portion of what little remains of my income goes to trying out different steakhouses, and thus, I pride myself in knowing steaks. This establishment did not impress me. First, where’s the bread? Every restaurant I’ve been to that served hot, fresh, soft, delicious bread usually served good steak. This place served NO bread, which was a bit strange to me. Maybe it’s an East Coast thing but still, docking points on that one. I ordered medium rare and my steak came out medium in some parts, medium well in others. This was an all knowing, decisive moment. To be considered a truly high-end steakhouse, one must be able to cook to the specified order. It didn’t matter to me how aged and premium their steaks were. All that professed quality went amiss in my taste buds because, to me, the steak was too overcooked. I would rate the quality of their steak as slightly above Outback Steakhouse but twice the price.

Honestly the service was great but for being the best steakhouse in New York City I was totally disappointed. My steak was not flavorful at all. I expected more since I’m a fan of the show but never going to eat there again.

My boyfriend and I made an early dinner reservation at the midtown location. We heard great things about Uncle Jack’s but never had the time to check it out. We went on a Friday evening at 5pm and it wasn’t busy at all. Nice, intimate environment but definitely one you should look the part for. We were greeted by our hostess and our waiter just looked super snazzy and inviting. The menu was written on the chalk board as well, handed to us. I couldn’t decide right away what I wanted to eat but I definitely couldn’t wait for a juicy piece of steak(well I hope it’s juicy)! My boyfriend decided on the Atlantic Salmon(he’s the healthy one) and I went with the 8 oz Filet Mignon. For sides, we shared the five cheese Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. My filet was so small(I knew I should’ve went for the 12 oz but I was trying to behave myself). Well oh my… That little steak was the best thing ever! Super tender and juicy. I was even kind enough to share a piece or two with my BF. The Mac and cheese was super cheesy while the mashed potatoes was my favorite out of the two. Super smooth and creamy yet just the right amount of flavors to compliment my steak and his salmon. Now for his salmon, it was super fresh. Taste like the fish was just caught, cooked, and served! What a juicy piece and cooked so perfectly! I definitely am use to a more open and welcoming restaurant as far as noise but obviously this is a place to have a romantic dinner and get dressed up for. We were hoping to enjoy a nice happy hour but it was only for the bar(understandable!). Not the most kid friendly place but appropriate for work dates, wine lovers, and romantic dinners. Looking forward to coming back!

Walked in and noticed place was so empty was excited that I didn’t have to wait but then I realized why it was so empty. Drinks were good that’s about it. We ordered the porter house for Two asked for medium and for it was rare also has no flavor. Steak just needs salt and pepper! Who can’t cook steak! What a disappointment! I don’t mind paying top dollars for a good steak but paying that bill last night for That nasty steak almost hurts. Will never go back here.

Advertising this restaurant as the number one steakhouse in NY is completely false maybe the number one priced steakhouse. Our experience stated out negative almost from our arrival. On a bitter cold day in NYC we walked into a completely empty restaurant and were seated by the front door. When we requested to sit elsewhere we were told they were overbooked and it would be too much trouble to move us. Fast forward almost two hours plenty of open tables when we left. The meal was adequate at best, we ordered the porterhouse steak for two, mostly overcooked and tough. Not very flavorful. Side dishes and appetizer also nothing special and dessert was mediocre at best. Our total check of over $ 250.00 for two people before tip yet we were asked to settle our bill when ordering dessert. Very unprofessional. Overall. Very disappointing expensive meal. I can think of many local steakhouses that far exceed this one and most for significantly less money.

It was YUMMY! The ribeye and the rib chop were delicious. It’s a beautiful location with guided ceilings and lots of character, a very intimate setting.

Although Uncle Jack’s had great service, was very warm and welcoming – the food is what really knocked down my review and i was so un-impressed. I came with about 25 people for a company’s holiday party, like i said the service was great and the staff was on top of everything. However, what we had that night just totally went down hill. The mixed appetizer was very random and hit or miss. The one large jump shrimp was alright, a bit tough to eat if you ask me. I really enjoyed the piece of jump crab meat that was on top of lettuce. There was some type of asian ginger dressing sprinkled on. The mozz was nothing to rave about. Next stop, the crab cake. Other people have said on here it was good, but honestly it was kinda gross. The breadcrumbs over powered it, and it was burnt on the outside. It just had a burnt breadcrumb flavor, and i feel like the crab just had no flavor at all and stood no chance. The salad was a nice size, but i took one mouth full and gagged. I felt as if the dressing was literally salt thrown in with water and drizzled on top. Two other people said the same thing and pushed their plate away. I can only speak for myself, but i was praying the entrée would be my savior. i was wrong. I was the only one at the table who didnt get steak, and i saw 4 people had to switch their cuts of meat. From the 4 that i saw, the meats were cooked completely wrong. So basically, people ended up switching their cut of meat for the way it was cooked. Its a steak house, and to screw up the cooking on not one, two, but 4(from what i saw on the end of my table) pieces of steak is a big issue. What did i eat? Grouper. I had two fork fulls and that was forcing it. It was burnt on the outside but not fully cooked inside. I love sushi, but this was awkwardly in the middle of being raw and cooked. The outside was burnt, and crunchy… so clearly the flame was on too high rather than a slow cook. Also, again. the heavy hand with salt. It was also on top of a mustard relish/sauce, way too salty once again and was too much of it. We also were served creamed spinach and mashed potatoes family style. Honest, the mashed potatoes were amazing. They deff hit the spot. Id also like to state the bread and buns that we were served in the beginning were good too, warm and various types. The desserts were delicious and the 3 irish coffees i had after made up for this disaster.

My father and I came to Uncle Jacks for dinner. The restaurant was within a few blocks from our hotel. We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated quickly. The restaurant looked beautiful in all of its holiday decorations. Once we were seated and it took a long time for anyone to come and greet us, we got water about 25 minutes of waiting. The waiter finally took our order around 6:30 and never reviewed the menu or special dishes. We wouldn’t have known they existed if not for overhearing another waiter. I got the NY strip with roasted cauliflower($ 16) and my father the asparagus(?$ 6) prime rib at $ 45 per steak. We started with a buffalini salad and a lobster avocado salad($ 20). The lobster salad was delicious – large pieces of lobster, avocado, spinach and a wonderful dressing. The buffalini was just okay, not worth the price. I’ve had buffalini that was fabulous, light and creamy-this was more like regular mozzarella-not very creamy and kind of firm even at the center. The salads are enough for two to split, the other waiter did tell his guests that… we didn’t get the message. The steaks are cooked under a 1800 degree broiler. They were cooked to perfection, I can’t remember having a better steak. The sides are large enough to share… wish we knew. The asparagus were well prepared, the cauliflower-not so much. It was half a head of cauliflower that was lightly fired and mostly cold – it was also brought to the table 20 minutes after my steak. The head waitress began to serve us, I think she noticed our lack of attention from our primary waiter. She was fabulous, she ended up taking the cauliflower off of the bill. We ordered the tiramisu to split for dessert with coffee and an herbal tea. It was lovely. The experience could have been better, it definitely improved after our service was recovered by the other staff. The steak is definitely worth the price, you won’t be disappointed. Keep in mind you may want to split the salad, side and dessert, it’s more than enough food for two. The entire bill with the above and two glasses of Pinot Noir cam to a little over $ 200. We would come back again.

Dined here for lunch at the bar. Service was fantastic. The décor for the holiday season — so beautiful! Def worth the trip for the decorating alone. We had oysters, crab cakes and split a steak — all delicious. Will definitely be heading back! Thanks, Uncle Jacks!

Took a few clients here for a steak prior to a Rangers game. The steak was ok for something in close proximity of MSG but by no means the best steakhouse in NYC. The restaurant itself seemed like it hadn’t been cleaned since the night before. Two of us had to ask for new silverware because it was dirty. The ladies room had no soap in the dispenser and it had a strange odor(a musty smell). What saved the night was that our server was excellent. He was very forthright and we heard him complain to what I assume was a manger that he is embarrassed by what had happened. I believe in second chances so I will be back. Just hoping that soap has been put in the dishwasher and the bathroom before I return.

Was not impressed. We went there with a party of 13 and the service was not good. They were very unorganized with each other. Forgetting we had to ask for stuff at least twice before we got it. The food was not impressive either, especially for the price. So many great steakhouses in the area, don’t bother trying it here.

the service was great. we purchased a groupon that was ABOUT to expire. I always get worried about how they might handle groupons, but these waitress and waiters were phenomenal. I really loved my sides, wine they helped me picked out, and my steak was cooked exactly how I told them. The waitress was amazing, she really had great service. I would defiantly come back. The after work crowd was really vibing so we actually went next door for a drink BC they bar was on fire that evening. Overall great time and I finally got a tasty steak.

I really really was hoping that the place would have wowed me. We had bought the Groupon prefix for two but had invited another couple so we can have an excuse to binge. The groupon deal was great for it’s price but of course I wanted to try everything. We ordered the seafood platter that the 4 of us were able to destroy. We also ordered the crab salad that was ok. I didn’t care for the baked clams that were mostly crunchy bread crumbs. The three of them loved the thick cut bacon and said it was the best bacon they ever had. The crab cake was ok. I got the filet mignon. The steak was good. I enjoyed it. My friend didn’t like her porterhouse so much. The sides were ok. We got the garlic mash, creamed spinach, sautéed broccoli, sautéed onions, fries and sautéed mushroom. They had forgotten to bring out our garlic mash potato and creamed spinach but apologized when we reminded them. None of the sides stood out. After awhile all the salty taste all blended together. We didn’t like the key lime pie. They liked the banana cream but I didn’t care for it. Service was ok. I wished we didn’t have to keep looking for someone to fill our water glasses. For a $ 600 bill I would have liked someone to fill my water glass when it was empty for 30 minutes. My husband and friend said the Bayside location was a lot better although the décor was less formal. Would give this place a 2.5 but that’s not an option on Unilocal

I had the groupon for Uncle Jack’s steakhouse and since neither my father or I of us go out for steak much, I thought it would be a nice treat. We started with two appetizers: Wagyu meatballs and baked clams. Both were really good and the clams and that oreganata bread crumb topping that we like. The house salads with citrus vinaigrette were gobbled quite quickly. Then cane the main event. We both got a 14 ounce strip streak and it wad excellent. Great crust, full of juice, and cooked a perfect medium rare. I don’t know what one of the previous reviewers was talking about when she used the word underwhelming, but too bad. Usually the steak comes with garlic mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, but the chef gave us German potatoes and sauteed spinach due to my dad’s dairy allergy. The sides were outstanding as well. For dessert, we split a ginger and key lime crumble with graham cracker crumbs in a mason jar. It tasted like an upside down key lime pie. Nice tart lime flavor but it was really filling. The service was prompt and friendly and we had just a great experience.

Came here for the Groupon deal. The deal features a separate menu with a choice of two appetizers, mashed potatoes, creamy spinach, choice of salad and entrée, and a dessert to share. Appetizers: The wagyu meatballs were tender and the sauce was delicious. The baked clams were a bit salty but you could remove the toppings easily. The mashed potatoes and the creamy spinach may have been the highlight of this meal. Both flavorful and extremely satisfying. Salad: Another restaurant, another salad. Steak: Ordered the 12oz boneless strip steak over the fillet mignon at the recommendation of other patrons. The steak was the most underwhelming part of the meal. The outside was way too charred and the meat was a bit tough. The flavor was good, but I would expect more from a renowned steakhouse. Dessert: Amazing. Some sort of key lime pie in a jar with marshmallows, graham crumbles, and I believe a bit of ginger. Service: Service was great and restaurant had a nice vibe. Overall a good dining experience.
