I love this place. The space is huge and the atmosphere is down to earth hipster. That being said, the service has always been a bit slow. Before you turn away, know they are very accommodating and they have a wonderful happy hour! I recommend bringing a bunch of friends here is you want a good beer and conversation. Also their food is AMAZING. You can’t go wrong with any of their dishes.

Turnmill is like a little hidden gem in Murray Hill. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to watch Sunday football where we could walk to the bathroom without pushing through 109 drunk dudes but still had a fun crowd watching the game around us. Turnmill was perfect for that! We got two seats at the bar, and honestly there were so many TV’s that no matter where you sat, there would be a screen clearly in your view. There was a Sunday happy hour which was wonderful, and the bartenders were all happy and friendly which I always love. We ordered nachos which were pretty standard for a bar. I will definitely be back — I hear that they have a great event space you can rent which I want to check out!

This place is fantastic. I hosted a surprise 30th birthday party here for my fiancé and from start to finish, I was thoroughly impressed with the bar and the management. I was able to reserve a space in the back of the bar for free after I had contacted Turnmill and spoke with Peggy. The space in the back is semi-private(has it’s own bar and bathroom, too!), so it was perfect to throw a surprise party back there since you can’t really see that far back when you enter the bar off the street. The folks at Turnmill were so accommodating and easy to work with. They allowed me to drop off decorations and cupcakes prior to the party without any issues and since I was going to be arriving later with my fiancé, they helped my friends gather in the back while we were on our way. They even dimmed the lights before everyone yelled surprise! I ordered some party platter hor d’oeuvres a week before the party, and they all came out in a timely manner, which was great. As far as the rest of the bar goes, it’s huge, nicely decorated and unpretentious. The bartenders there are friendly and they really do go above and beyond to make you feel welcome. They have big TVs for sports, etc and I did notice that there is a DJ on Saturday nights, which if I do recall, was playing some great mixes. I would highly suggest using Turnmill to throw a party or just to go for drinks and some comfort food. I’ll definitely be coming back here often!

Came here on a Tuesday night when it was less crowded, making it a good spot to go with friends to chat and have a drink. We sat around a barrel and the music wasn’t too loud as it was before when I visited so I had a better experience this time. Probably wouldn’t come here on the weekend as they blast obnoxiously loud music and it’s not a place for dancing, rather it’s a grabbing a drink at a table kind of place.

Turnmill is a block away from my NY office, and i often find myself alone, ponied up at the bar, eating and drinking at the end of an excruciatingly long day. And Turnmill makes me comfortable with that, with a solid tap list, great bar food(wings and soft bake pretzels are killer, above average burger as well) in a comfortable environment that is never too crowded, but not dead either. Game on that you are interested in vegging out to? Back bar plays the game call and has a couple of massive screens. Always cool barkeeps willing to shoot the shit, and maybe give you a shot on the house if you’ve spent enough time or cash.

I always used to come here with coworkers. The drinks are pretty cheap($ 6) and taste decent. I haven’t tried much of their food, but my friends always order something. It has nice lighting and good service… there’s a decent amount of room, too. Great memories here.

Actually was impressed by this bar. I realized when I got here that I always used to pass it on my way to Tavern on Third. The bartenders are quick, attentive, and friendly. The food is decent and drinks are standard prices for the city averaging around $ 8 – 12. The chicken fingers were good paired with the white dip as well as the fresh chips and guac/salsa(really good guacamole btw and totally recommend it). Overall had a pleasant experience and recommend people give this place a try as it has a clean and classy ambiance.

This place is the epitome of why I avoid Murray Hill: full of stuffy ex-frat guys and their boring«after-work» crowd. The first time I came here, a waitress told me that a table I was sitting at was already claimed by a group of the previously mentioned individuals… except there is no hostess, and the entire place is open seating. Well needless to say, I won’t be coming back!

Walk by here all the time and finally went last night for football, drinks, apps and dinner. It was great on all fronts! Drinks(and football) — tons of different beers on tap — great selection! Also has a great selection of whisky. They had the game on every tv and you could see it from any table. Overall atmosphere is great. Good for a date spot or out with friends. Had the nachos for an app — delish and perfect portion(good for 2 – 4 people). Definitely recommend. Chicken sandwich for dinner… bangin! Simple, but excellent. Comes with homemade potato chip/fries that melt in your mouth.

Came here for a birthday party in the back, they did a great job of sectioning us off and giving us space. The bartenders were really attentive and the drinks were strong(all I can ask for). The bouncers were even nice, which, let’s be honest, is never the case. All around solid choice for the area for a nice bar to hang out at without getting bumped and screamed at through loud music.

Loved this find on a rainy Sunday night at 11pm. Stepped up to this place and the windows were all open, giving the place fresh air. Further, place was lit dimly with candles, making an intimate night to have drinks with someone special; most of the people there were couples. They had tvs on, but fantastic 80’s music playing. Patty was tending bar and was quick with the drinks and personable. Plus, I’m such a sucker for Irish accents. We ended up staying until 2:30am. Yep, that’s how good of a time we were having. I drank Moscow mules all night, while husband was drinking vodka martinis. Considering they’re open until 4am, may be back while in town…

Decent after-work bar. They have some okay beers included in their happy hour(though the bartender told us that all beers were included, and then proceeded to list about 5 or 6 exceptions). They have a lot of seating(and a whole second back area, though there was a private party there). The high tops were for table service, and the barrels were even reserved, so… standing room only for the most part for us who were just trying to kill time before dinner. Other than that, not much too noteworthy about the place.

Turnmill is the bomb dot com. My first shout-out goes to the DJ whose awesome playlist may as well have been the«Greatest Hits of Kathy’s Middle and High School Dances.» I think I danced to literally every single song that night. Speaking of which, there IS space to dance at the back of the bar! Which brings me to my next shout-out, to the crowd at this bar who knows how to have fun with strangers and isn’t afraid to bust a few moves. And last but not least, my final shout-out is dedicated to the awesome bartender who made me two fantastic whiskey cocktails on whim because I couldn’t think of what I wanted. Thanks man!

I like it! Simple, solid bar in the Flatiron district. Strong gin & tonic, decent tap list, average drink prices and low key vibe. It definitely had a bit of that neighborhood bar feel that I really like, so it was a great spot to hang out with some friends after dinner. Comfortable, unpretentious — overall, A-OK.

Stopped in here this past Sunday for the All-Star game and was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn’t a young drunk crowd. Maybe because it was a Sunday but the place was not too busy. We followed to the sounds to some awesome live music and found a private party in the back. We were not allowed to stay in that section assuming there was a pre-paid open bar but whoever that band was — i’d love to book my next birthday party there with that band! We had a few shots and beers and stayed up front where it was pretty chill. I like the ambience of the place and the fact it doesn’t smell like the usual beer stench when you walk into most bars. Bartender was very friendly. Grilled cheese and waffle chips were pretty good.

Loved this bar from the second I stepped in! First of all, any bar that mainly plays 90s music gets a check from me. «Oops I Did It Again» and«Genie In A Bottle» are exactly what a group of 90s babies needs to start dancing(even though there’s no dancing here ha). Second, atmosphere here is poppin’. And third, after 1am, they serve food. What more could you ask for? Drinks prices are okay. I got a few beers and each one was $ 6 or $ 7. I went here for a close friend’s birthday party. Sounds like it was easy for him to reserve a table, and once the party next to us left, we snatched that table up too. So — obviously a totally ideal place for a big group. Keeping Turnmill in mind for a fun happy hour or group gathering!

Summary: Neighborhood bar you can use to pregame before moving along to bigger and better. The Atmosphere: There is nothing here to discern the place from any other given pub in the neighborhood. The beer and drink selection is standard and adequate. It can be quite loud despite it being fairly empty. I came here with a few friends on a Friday night and it was pretty empty, surprising. The Service: Friendly and attentive. I didn’t really have to wait too long or keep flagging a bartender down to get a drink or my bill. They do a good job. Overall, decent enough bar with average prices($ 7/beer) but a bit loud for my taste.

Pretty loud spot but a good bar for the Flatiron area. There was a huge, ~30 person surprise birthday party in the front, so I was impressed they could accomodate a group like that. Their house beer is a really nice amber ale. I could drink lots of them. Waiters was an interesting balance of completely multi-tasking but also giving you brief pockets of attention, just enough to get and pay for a beer. I like the aesthetic — classy without being pretentious. High ceilings are nice, too.

Had it not been for a failed attempt to hit up the semi-new Roof at Park South( ), it would’ve been unlikely that I would’ve given Turnmill a shot. Armed with a group of thirsty friends freshly turned off by the dbaggery of their rooftop neighbor, I am suprised the former Vig 27( ) is looking pretty good. For starters, the place feels more upscale pub than lame-o lounge. Gone are the sofas and plush chairs, in their place are sturdy tables for booth action and plenty of intimate lighting(i.e. candles). There is one main long counter bar as well as one in the back for private groups. Ventilation isn’t the best, but it helps when the ceiling fans are spinning and the windows are open. The drinks are priced to the neighborhood and they have a decent beer selection on tap. Our group enjoyed the minglefest within the space, along with the fun, diverse groups of people that came in after midnight. This is all subjective on any night of course, but it was a relaxing time for a Saturday night. My 1 star knock is for one of the two bartenders working the whole night. Though she was a little slow in finding folks needing a drink, the no-no was when I caught her mixing different tequilas when one bottle clearly ran out. Ugh. Music is a tad loud for any real convos, even when no one is dancing.
