Great little neighborhood wine bar. Perfect for a second date, perhaps before a nice dinner. The back areas are great for groups of 6 – 8, maybe even a little more.

Stopped in to Turks and Frogs for an after-dinner glass of wine and had a relaxing time. Turks and Frogs is an adorable nautical/antique-themed wine bar. The front bar room is cozy without feeling claustrophobic and the back seating area is decorated with dark leather furniture. I can’t remember which wine I ordered, but it was exactly what I was in the mood for; the bartenders really know their stuff! Another great West Village wine bar.

Love Turks and Frogs. also the place next door Orient express. They have a great atmosphere, amazing decoration and of course the staff is always happy to help out and always with a smile on their face. The bartender Orhun is awesome, he definitely know what he is doing, his cocktails are amazing. we will always have this place as our regular bar !!!

It’s cool, this small place has got very nice atmosphere, dark and mysterious yet kinda romantic. Wide wine menu and he is very friendly. I haven’t had food here yet but my friend said they are very good so I will definitely go back and try. It’s a perfect quiet spot for date.

I really like this place! First time there. There’s a bar with barstools when you come in and small tables for two on the opposite sideo. In the back there’s more of a «lounge», with armchairs & sofas(a black leather Winchester sofa, for those who know what those are! – I covet). I put quotation marks around«lounge», because it’s more of a Victorian style dark-color living room than one of those modern spaces I visualize when I hear lounge(this is better). Wine and beer only, and interestingly the bartender(who was professional and really nice) measures the wine in a small carafe before pouring your glass. Never seen that before. I guess it saves you the slight irritation when your friend/date(it’s totally a date-worthy place; first date even – nice but not pretentious, and with wine only you can’t get too drunk ;)) gets more wine than you, ha! At $ 12 for a glass of Chablis I’m not going to become a regular, but I liked it and will definitely come back. Also, it’s 5 – 6 blocks away from the Meatpacking District, i.e. far away enough for that(these days *sad*) riff raff… Trivia about the bar: it used to be an antique store(right size for that, and a nice size for this bar, but it’s smaller than it might seem in some of the pictures!) that sold, incongruously, antiques from Turkey(Turks) and France(Frogs…).

Order a glass of shiraz and pair with lamb kofte and the hummus. Keep the shiraz coming and grab a seat in the plush red chair in the back. You’ll feel like you’re in Bristol or Spain. Only down side is the expensive menu, so try limiting your visits to twice a year.

My girlfriend and I stumped upon this place as we were exploring The West Village having just moved to the neighborhood. All I can say is this is the absolute perfect place for a romantic excursion — the soft light, the tasty wine, and close quarters help you forget you’re in NYC and can make you feel that perhaps, maybe, you’re in France in a little wine bar off on a side street. Take a date here. You’re love it.

Terrible service. Bartender/waiter was inattentive. Nevertheless gave 10% tip. To my shock, it was changed to 20% when they charged my card. Not going back ever. I had to call my credit card company to get a refund of the extra 10% tip charged to my card without my authorization.

This place made me very, very happy. Perfectly decorated, always a great soundtrack, a variety of wines, cool service. A true gem in New York and a highlight of my life there.

This is a great spot! It is a small place, you wouldn’t even know it’s a wine bar when you walk by. Great selection of wine for those wine lovers. Did not have any food here but there seems to be a good selection and from what I saw, it looked quite tasty. Being that it is so small, this is a great intimate spot for either a date or small group. I will definitely be coming back here!

Turks & Frogs is a very solid choice for a low-key, but romantic date or a chill night with a friend. The décor is filled with plush seats, dimly lit tables, and various paintings — think a nice hotel cocktail lounge in the early 20th century. Jazz and swing music plays in the background, which for me is always a plus. The wine list is extensive, featuring reds and whites from around the world, but a tad pricy for my tastes.(The lowest price for a glass was $ 9⁄10.) I was a little surprised to see Turks & Frogs empty at 7:15pm on a Wednesday night, but it certainly picked up steam by 8. I did not manage to try the food, but for a quiet, wine-filled evening in the West Village, I’d certainly recommend it.

I have mixed feelings about this spot. It’s deserving of 5 stars for coziness and as a date spot. However the servers aren’t very friendly. We had a large group and when we asked for water the guy acted like it was an over the top request. Every time we ordered he just seemed annoyed by us and we were very polite so not sure what his problem was? The drinks were around $ 9 – 14 for a glass of wine. Bottom line is it’s a sexy, cozy and quiet spot. Worth checking out for 1 drink as long as the cranky bartender isn’t working.

cozy little wine bar, recommended by a local(and friend)! glasses are reasonably priced(some as low as $ 9/glass). we ordered a small plate of cheese — came with 4 different types of cheeses(all amazing!), jam and cute sliced up pieces of pita! we also ordered the tuna tartar — not very impressed surprisingly. it was like 2⁄3 avocado! the redeeming quality was that there was a spicy kick to the dish which meant we still left almost nothing on the plate. it comes with a sizeable side of arugula and bright red tomatoes which was a nice pop of color on the plate! however, towards the end, i was wishing the avocado was part of guacamole :( great spot for a date or catch up sesh with a gal pal :)

We stopped in to have a glass of wine in between dinner and shopping. A small quiet place to escape the madness of the city. So quiet we were the only ones in there at the time, however we hit the place as soon as they opened. I’m pleased with this bar. Cheers

Hot date night. Yes indeed. After trying to go to another wine bar in the area that was overcrowded and overall unwelcoming, my date and I ended up here. Because you know, dudes love wine bars. HA. At first glance the place is: Dark and a bit dreary, Edgar Allan Poe-esque. But I like that. Good place for a date if you and your date are ok with intimate conversations and staring into one another’s eyes. Just give your date a heads up that if you’ve been working all day you may a bit tired and your yawning isn’t that you’re bored but that you rather be in bed… With him. Yikes! Heck I would come here alone, sit at the bar and unwind with a glass or two of wine. And I totally recommend the cheese plate. Affordability and ambiance make this place a total go-to spot for Sasha!

Before I send a few light and satirical jabs at this place, let me just say that I really liked it, maybe even loved it, here. Turks and Frogs had a different layout than I imagined, but beyond the lively bar room there is a really comfortable back room that, despite the large group of drunk giggling women that entered conspiring to foil my date, is great for long, sprawling conversations. Luckily, their voices died down in my head the moment I ceased focusing on them. So, the people here are definitely cool, laid-back, and chill, which makes for a nice, Mediterranean vibe. When I walked in, they must not have noticed because no one ever welcomed me or offered a menu. I’m not fussy but it seemed odd. No matter, I like seating myself. We were then asked if we were waiting for our order and I slightly irritably implied that a menu would be nice. I mean, the place is small, so there aren’t that many people to keep track of. A minute later, the dude came to get the menus, which was also kind of odd. I mostly found it amusing. We tried a bottle of the Turkish white(Emir from Çankaya). It was a decent, crisp, light-bodied white. Fairly innocuous and a nice quaffer, but not much to it. I was curious to try a Turkish white but I suspect the reds might be more interesting. Somehow I failed to register the music, but it must have been at least decent. Awesome place for a date or, apparently, for a gaggle of girls(in the back room).
